  • If you like steam locomotives, then summer is a great time! With several steamers running in various parts of the country, it is not hard to find some steam.
In this program, you will visit 6 steam locomotives or railroads, old and not-so-old, big and small, running through a variety of interesting scenery.
Your video visit will include: The incredible Cumbres & Toltec in New Mexico and Colorado with 2-8-2 #484 & 487, Nickel Plate Road 2-8-2 #587 pulling the Indiana State Fair train, Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum 2-8-0 #610 pulling passenger trains in Chattanooga, Eureka & Palisade 4-4-0 #4, built in 1875, running on Colorado's stunning Durango & Silverton, Ohio Central 4-6-2 #1293 pulling a passenger train through Ohio's Amish Country, and Norfolk & Western 4-8-4 #611 roaring through Ohio.
You'll enjoy incredible lineside action with lots of smoke, steam and whistling, as well as in-cab scenes.

This program was one of my favorites growing up. So much that I actually wore the DVD out and it cracked. Like others have said this is what helped spur my love of steam railroading and trains in general. Awesome to see that you're uploading these in full to RUclips now!

It's so good to see this show again, as well as the rest of the Steam In The series! These were the main reason I got into steam locomotives and railroading. In fact, watching the Golden Age of Steam collection at my grandparents place is one of my core memories. Sadly, he's no longer with us, but last year I got permission from my grandma to take the collection home with me, so now I have a piece of him with me always. And I'm sure he's up there smiling, running on that great big golden railroad in the sky...
Thank you, Railway Productions, for all the good memories!

This movie is probably one of the reasons why I’m into trains as much as I am, especially when it comes to the narrow gauge. Many badass memories were made with this movie.

You guys know or not that they doubleheaded together for the Independence Limited excursion from Cleveland to Roanoke. The 587 has a special place in my heart as she pulled Richard Nixon’s Campaign Train and was retired in Frankfort where my dad and his friend, Bob Hargesheimer, had a factory adjacent to the tracks.

Me too. In fact, 4501 was the very first mainline standard gauge locomotive I ever rode behind, which I find coincidental because she's "The Engine That Started It All". The first excursion of the East, the first operating steam engine of the TVRM, and then the first steam engine I ever rode behind.

so many units that are a great chase. unfortunately, 587 has now been down for over 15 yrs now, awaiting refit. 611 was fired up again a few yrs back, and once again is pulling excursion trains.
also, the ITM (Indiana Transportation museum) got kicked out of noblesville, the property reclaimed, and the tracks to the state fair ripped up.
the ITM has a new home in kokomo, In. , and 587 is in a shop in KY gettting restored.
    Great video.

    Imagine this scenario:
You are new to the Noblesville/Fishers area between 1989 and 2003. Your knowledge of trains is limited and part of that limited knowledge is that there used to be steam trains, but they aren't around. You then hear Nickel Plate Road 587's whistle on one of her last runs of the day, and because it's at night, you think that it's a ghost train. You freak out until someone who was watching the train before she finishes her day says,"you fool! That's no ghost train, that's the Nickel Plate 587 on the Indiana Transportation Museum Fair train!" You then start to feel foolish for thinking that it's a ghost train, and as you head back to your home, you start to wonder if all the steam trains are really completely gone.
