Can't believe I watched a Studebaker in a 2023 race. I remember when the country had them as patrol cars back in 1955. Wonder what these had for engines?
BWS ..............these are in a class probably with highly modified SBCs and LS Chevy power and the reason for the Studbaker was aerodynamics ..........good combo , there were classes with period looking cars
I believe the Studes are pretty good aerodynamically. Dunno how many times they have won outright, but one year for sure in a machine run by a rock group from Finland - The Leningrad Cowboys won this event. Pretty cool I thought. Only thing that would impress me more would be if I won it myself.
The original Carrera Panamericana was started in the early 50s, and ran thru 55 when most open road racing stopped after 80 spectators and a driver were killed, at LeMans. This was started as a vintage event, 20(?) Years ago. The winners in the 50s were usually American stock cars like Lincoln, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and Studebaker, until about '53, when Ferrari started to build cars specifically for this race. The Question you should be asking is: WTF ARE ALL THE LATE MODEL PORCHES DOING HERE?
Gracias por subir esta fantástica Carrera Panamericana 2023. Saludos desde Tuxtla Gutiérrez Chiapas, donde extrañamos el banderazo de salida desde hace muchos años.
Just like how Targa Tasmania used to be, so many Porsche 911s, oh and of course plenty of yank cast iron. Asides the few Beemers (old and new), and a Beetles, a Reggie, and a Z car, it doesn’t seem like there were any other cars being used, ie old Alfas, Ferraris etc ???
Liked the 01 studebaker...dem good ole boys! They do sound amazing, I also liked the ( pure guess) a model B ? At least its brakes should get plenty of cooling airflow 😂. 😊
Actually those Studebakers are Commanders and the median age is 70 years old. There are usually quite a few in competition at The Bonneville Salt Flats mainly due to their aerodynamic body shape. They were years ahead of the other manufacturers back in 1954!
Obviously. But the only thing I know about this event comes from a BMW M series promotional video from the early eighties. Short of Studebaker club events this is the most I've seen in one place. This is far better then a bunch of them in a parking lot. @@chriscarbaugh3936

Great variety of autos racing👍😎thanks for showing👍

Congrats on the stunning audio quality. Makes listening with headphones a real pleasure!
Help me understand... where in the WORLD did all those Studebakers' come from??? You could spend a lifetime and not see that many! LUV IT
Love that Studebaker! Thanks for sharing this vid!
Wiki says that Studebaker has won this race over twenty-two times since 1988. Imagine that!
And with little factory support! 😂😂😂

It was very similar to a Chevy 283.

Amazing the old Amercan Studebakers racing. They would be sixty years old now. Booting it too !

Looks like they are driving at about 80%, leaving some in hand against the unexpected.
