    There is 2 mixes you can get
    Concentrate and 50/50 Prediluted
    Concentrate - 1 gal will make 2 gallons because you should mix water with - distilled water is the propper way but some have used tap water with no issues but the manufacturer calls for Distilled water
    The gallons that say 50/50 mix are already mixed propper and are ready to pour

      Just be careful to not use Deionized water, it will actually attack the metals and some of the seals & plastics in the cooling system. Distilled or purified drinking water are ok, tap water is ok as long as it’s not hard. Fleetguard at one point had a tech bulletin that basically said unless your tap water was really hard or undrinkable they actually preferred you fill with that vs bottle/jug water. I can’t remember where I read it but there was a heavy duty coolant article that said the minerals in regular tap water were actually beneficial.

      @@dgrenier4908 people just have to worry about getting some regular distilled water and honestly 50/50 regular tap water with cooling of seeing people use and never have issues I'm just trying to get good information out there without getting too technical because that's when you lose people and then they don't want to listen anymore so we have to be mindful of that

    Colorant in coolant means nothing. Really liking these basic servicing vids.
    Coolant percentages do affect thermal range both hot and cold. Example, 50/50 may only provide protection to 257° but the same coolant type at a 60/40 ratio will provide protection to 270°. Granted, I hope nobody ever sees those temps but that’s how it plays out with coolant ratios.

      @@FordBossMe indeed you were advising best practice. Universal coolants aren't something I'd pick for scheduled maintenance. Maybe if I had an issue while on a trip and could not get the OEM equivalent that would pass with me.... But that's me. My preference is to do it right the first time.

      universal is fine, if you are in a pinch.... a roadside blown hose repair and need to make it home. dont use it long term and get a proper flush done.
      I used regular green in a bmw years ago not knowing about the blue specific and the details boss man explained and it worked fine, but i did notice there was lots of seepage at the hose ends over some time, and water pump gasket showed the same. not sure if related, but just my experiences. however, i never had any other issues such as engine issues, or major failures....it was however an older bmw...much newer cars are more sensitive and specific.

      Well probably Tire related if he can't feel the vibration in the brake pedal when he hits the brakes at those speeds oh, so he's going to have to get his tires looked at and balanced

    My parts man at work says we can use dex cool in the newer fords?

    • @tradekingdistributing3586
      @tradekingdistributing3586 2 года назад +2

      The new fords and even the ones that came with the Orange coolant now use the new motorcraft Yellow coolant. Fordtechmaculoco has a video on his channel explaining this change.
      The new part numbers:
      Motorcraft VC13G 1 Gallon Coolant/Antifreeze Concentrated
      Motorcraft VC13DLG Gallon Coolant/Antifreeze Diluted

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  2 года назад +2

      So the brand new fords and the precious with orange coolant have switched to VC13g its a yellow coolant that is compatible with both
      I would imagine if you really wanted since they make the yellow compatible for both older and brand new you could use Dex cool on brand new but I'd just get the yellow VC13G yellow

    "Dex Cool" is one of the WORST Coolants ever made....... it sludges up and Corodes Aluminium, in Chevrolet engines you can easily flush all the Dex Cool out and then add Prestone "All Vehicles" in and then never have to worry about sludging up

    I got an old e34 BMW and I flushed the entire cooling system with water and used the G05 Mercedes coolant as it’s the only thing I can find as a substitute for the bmw blue coolant and I haven’t had problems and I hope there won’t be. The coolant that I flushed out was a mix of green and universal shit. Now one thing about dex cool that I’m not a fan of is how acidic that coolant is and I call it dexkill for that reason. My friends 3800 series 2 powered Pontiac used to drink all its antifreeze in the overflow tank within a few miles. I started filling with water and the coolant consumption went down. Now that it’s getting cold We put in the universal stuff for the cold and now after running 4 months no dexcool it’s not consuming as much coolant as before and He only have to add it once every couple months

      that gen of BMW ive used green in myself, and never had any major damage. maybe will take out the water pump gasket a bit quicker in my experiences on e38/e46 models which are newer than your older e34. just do flushes every 2 years so it doesnt gum up the heater control valves.

      G-05 coolant is similar to G-48 coolant that BMW uses,except it has Nitrite. It should be okay.

    • @900Yugo
      @900Yugo Год назад

      Dex-cool is an OAT type coolant. OAT coolant does not like to mix with any other type. That will cause problems.

      @@funnypranker34 Yes, G-05 was once widely used in European cars. Eg Mercedes specified G-05 until 2011 when they switched to G-48. For older model Mercedes cars either the two is fine before 2014 model year. From 2014 on Mercedes uses G-40 which is almost the same as G-48 but without Borates. Ironically it's the same coolant as VW G12++ except VW calls it a different designation.

    I’ve seen engines ruined by using “mix with anything” coolants. ALWAYS use the correct fluid. Distilled water is a better TEMPORARY solution than putting in whatever you have. Tap water is still better than the wrong coolant. NEVER MIX COOLANTS. NEVER USE THE WRONG ONE. You’ll be glad later!

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  2 года назад

    • @chrisrossman9566

      Distilled water or de-ionized water is very corrosive because it has no minerals dissolved in it. It will leach minerals out of your radiator and block to balance electrons in the solution. Just use straight tap water.
