    Thanks for the info! I have a 2017 Ford Taurus Limited and also a 2018 Ford Taurus SEL. Both have the 3.5L NA V-6. Both also have the orange coolant. Both need topping off so I went to my local Ford dealer and they told me to use the new Yellow concentrate to top off the cars. At first I was freaking out because so many RUclips channels talk about not mixing colors because the coolant could turn into a jelly like substance blocking coolant passages, etc. So, thank you for the reassurance and also my dealership reassured me it's fine. It does look tasty though, kinda like a icy cold Mountain Dew!

    • @JakeInGeorgia
      @JakeInGeorgia  Год назад

      Yep! You’ll be fine. It’s backwards compatible. What I would recommend though is that you completely remove the orange coolant from your system at your earliest convenience and replace it entirely with the yellow. The orange is known to be acidic and will prematurely wear out components like the water pump.

    I just got 3 bottles of prediluted for my Taurus interceptor. The internal water pumps in these and the Edge, Explorer and so on are probably a huge reason for this change. They preserve the pump far better supposedly.

    • @JakeInGeorgia
      @JakeInGeorgia  3 года назад +8

      I hear that too. And I believe it. I replaced a water pump while using the old orange fluid. Buying prediluted isn’t a bad thing if you’re looking for a jug to keep in the vehicle ready to go. For the garage, I recommend buying the concentrate and mixing it up 50/50 with distilled water. Then just keep the mixture in your garage. Better bang for your buck!

    • @mygt8a4re
      @mygt8a4re 2 года назад +5

      It doesn't just preserve the pump per say, the newer coolant is likely to lessen deterioration of the rubber hoses, seals, internal plastics and aluminum in the radiator and heater core. It's not just the "internal" water pump at risk or cause of coolant system failure. A little more "R&D" would have been helpful to longevity here 😉

      @@Guillotines_For_Globalists it’s probably best to always use distilled water no matter what but that’s my two cents.

    • @Guillotines_For_Globalists
      @Guillotines_For_Globalists 2 года назад +3

      @@JakeInGeorgia It absolutely is, but not everyone will know or care to use distilled water "and pay more for it." Also when you are flushing your system with a garden hose that water is definitely not distilled and there's no good way to ensure that ALL of it gets purged from the system.

    The Ford Yellow is the Prestone All Makes/All Models with cor-guard(phosphate) dyed yellow...a 2-EHA based OAT with phosphate
    The Ford Orange is the Prestone All Makes/All Models dyed orange...a straight 2-EHA based OAT
    The Ford dark Green is the CCI sourced FL22 also used for Mazda and Subaru...an OAT with phosphate
    Every OEM is changing or tweaking their factory fill coolants because of an issue with CAB flux contamination in aluminum radiators and heater cores. It's not a nitrite issue folks. It's bad engineering by radiator manufacturers that the coolant manufacturers have to deal with.
    New rads and cores should be flushed out with hot water before adding the coolant but the OEMs know what the problem is and see a future full of engine issues that bring cha ching in for the dealerships so no incentive to do the right thing.

    The main difference between organic and inorganic refrigerant lies precisely in these corrosion inhibitors. Inorganics use products like silicates, which tend to degrade over time, subtract effectiveness and may be a source of future breakdowns. Organics, for their part, are more stable over a longer period of time and are biodegradable, making them less harmful to the environment. Furthermore, their ability to avoid freezing is the highest, reaching nearly 40 degrees Celsius below zero.

      Well, I can’t answer for anything Ford does as I have no association with them or their business. Practically speaking, it could be because alcohol evaporated faster, or maybe it’s because they think the blend of coolant transfers heat better, or it could be because of its acidity level, or it could be because of how the coolant reacts with the rubbers and plastics that it is traveling through. It could be any number of things. However, it usually boils down to $$$$. If I’ve learned one thing from working on vehicles it’s that if you have to ask why something was done a certain way rather than another... the answer is typically money $$.

    I know I'm shaking the bag of cats here but the coolant will most likely change again. The materials within the cooling system are why the coolant needs to keep changing. The aluminum in the radiator and heater core, the rubber in the hoses, the seals, the plastics.... They all have chemical reactions with the coolant in negative ways. Ford changes the coolant as new coolant testing shows less failure than prior with these materials. But, it takes time to see these reactions (lack of R&D maybe). Then, coolant system parts tend to change over the years. Do the math. Create your own summary. I'm not a hater, I currently own 3 Fords (have owned 10 total)

    Motorcraft VC-13-G Yellow Antifreeze/Coolant. This ethylene glycol-based antifreeze. So yellow it’s just a colored. Base the same like in all others coolants. So I use any good g12++ coolant instead of this, not matter a color!
