Big thanks, Jodie, for hosting this, and to Johanna from PACFA for the clear, articulate and wise voice of reason in the shifting sands of much-needed national standards for counselling. We're in good hands with you at the helm of PACFA, Johanna. This video answers the questions everyone is asking with honesty, transparency, and hope.
Thank you so much Johanna for the amazing work you are doing for the whole counselling & psychotherapy industry! As a long-term PACFA member and a PACFA Registered Clinical Psychotherapist - I'm excited to see what the future holds for our field.
Thank you for organising such a helpful interview Jodie. And Johanna, from PACFA, thank you for your clear, honest, and respectful communication in sharing and updating us on what’s happening in the industry. I feel very supported, and hopeful, with you representing our industry.
This has provided me with lots of ideas about how to proceed. It's very reassuring and even exciting. I'm looking forward to our profession being lifted up and empowered to reach its potential. Thanks Jodie and Johanna
That was very good to watch. Very fruitful discussion with lots of great ideas and plans. And as a psychotherapy focused therapist, great to see such clarity about that. I look forward to continuing to work towards becoming a Registered Clinical Psychotherapist.
Can someone clarify please….is this new regulation applicable to people counselling across the board or just allied health. I’m doing a diploma at the moment and would be registering with ACA as a level one. I don’t have tertiary qualifications so does it mean I won’t be able to work as a counsellor in the private sector…as in my own private practice? Thanks in advance
PACFA counsellors are full members of Allied Health Professionals Australia due to their high standards. If you go back and listen to the interview, everything Johanna says about diploma counsellors will apply to you. There were recently some changes to ACA memberships so I would check if your course is still eligible for joining. All the best.
@@jodiegale-thepsychosynthes1070 Hi Jodie Thanks for your response. I did listen to the whole interview but am still unclear as to what this could mean for me as I am studying a diploma and undertaking other courses eg. Trauma therapy etc. but still am not clear as to whether this would impact me seeing my own clients as a counsellor, as in working for myself?
@@londonwoman1 Johanna said that people could still work in private practice with a diploma but that PACFA no longer registered people with a diploma - only degree or above.
Thanks for sharing Jodie. Very informative.
