  • A bright and sunny evening fishing the Upper Taw. Not the best conditions for wild Trout fishing but still a lovely place to spend a couple of hours.

      Thanks Mark, I think the tweaks I've made to the setup have improved things a bit, just need the weather to play ball now.

      I try to get to a few of the bank clearing sessions so might see you there Paul. There is some talk of a club fly tying evening in the new year so hopefully the club sec has your email contact for any updates👍

    I work from home these days and sometimes squeeze in about 45 mins of fishing on lunch breaks, how cheeky! Missed a nice brown today, ahh well. Time well spent. Thanks for the vid, always enjoy them.

      I think all fishermen should get special dispensation for their addiction, some of my work colleagues get cigarette breaks after all🙂

    Hi Chris, nice video and well done with the catch, it seems to be dry and cold all the time now so only sporadic meagre hatches and fish not really rising much but couple of days ago I got busted by a huge trout, it went straight for tree roots and my 5lb tippet never stood a chance...still seeing that tail which looked like a shovel lol.

      Bloody shame about that fish Fieldsman, its a balancing act isn't it between tippet strength and diameter, not something I have to worry about with the fish here but if they've got "tails like shovels" you might have to give it some thought!

    Is the stretch at north tawton rugby club still free? I fished it years ago with a old mate who sadly passed away, if I’m down there I’d like to fish it again

      I'm not sure Richard, I'll make some enquiries, I know the rugby club is opposite the cheese factory and a friend of mine walks his dog there. I also know someone who plays for okehampton, so perhaps he'll know?

      Thanks Richard, if it ever stops raining, I'll do some more. No sign of it at the moment, unfortunately.

    Hi Chris, lovely video as usual! I know you have probably mentioned this in a previous video, but as someone who is new to fishing dry fly on smaller rivers, I was wondering what your set up was (rod, reel, line etc)?

    • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
      @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724  2 года назад +1

      Hi John, I have a few different setups but here I'm using a 7' 6" three weight and matching line. I don't think the reel makes much difference as long as it functions properly your not going to get many fish that take line! I'm a big fan of thread furled leaders for these small streams but that has to be a personal choice as many anglers can't get on with them. Honestly I don't think there is any "right" way as long as your enjoying using a particular setup then it's correct by default. Thanks for watching.

    Nice fish.
    No I don't get what you mean at the end? I never sit at work dreaming of coming home and sitting Infront of the idiotbox, only about being outdoors and by a river. I guess you mean ' forcing ' yourself to go even when you're tired? Too tired to go flyfishing, means being too tired to live with me......it's that essential. And outsiders call this a pastime! 🙄

      Yes Jonathan your right I meant when you've had one of those days and think wouldn't it be easier to go home and perhaps fish another evening instead! Always better to go, those sessions often turn out to be the best medicine.

    Nice video Chris and lovely fish! Only one thing is certain - if you don't go you'll never know. That's a nice river, does your club lease all those waters from different landowners?

    • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
      @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724  2 года назад +1

      I think two of the beats are owned by the club but the rest are leased, it's great value when you consider the range of fishing available.

      @@chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 That's certainly the impression I got. Great to have so much choice!
