The funniest thing here is a discussion about piracy with one guy whose name is Yolo swaggins... And actually my name is sol Cutta, his is derivative, mine is actual carbon copyright.. Hahah.. So there u have it.
Interesting about the star wars theme song. There used to be a series in China that used the Braveheart soundtrack, on a loop, for the entire episodes. Seriously. I had the same CD. It was literally just the CD, on a loop.
You guys are great! Thanks for filming your road travels, it's a unique and powerful way of seeing the Chinese landscape. I'm very interested in infrastructure, architecture, how people and nature interact across the earth, and you're showing it beautifully.
I had a junior chinese engineer working for me that when he was supposed to design a circuit he copied one that was already patented. I was suspicious because he completed the design far too quickly. Theother thing that drives me crazy with the Chinese is that they will continually tell me everything is fine until the day they are supposed to deliver and then they fail.
There was also the case with Sea-Gull 1963 chronographs. A decade ago or so Sea-Gull (=Tianjin Watch Factory) reissued one of their older models of watches that had been issued to PLA pilots in the 60s. It was a limited edition. However, a few years ago, these same watches popped up again, made by a few other companies (Red Star, for instance), but with the same, perfectly legit Sea-Gull movements (ST19). So it's kinda of a Chinese copy of a Chinese watch, but kinda not, since they all use legit ST19 movements. Then Sea-Gull decided to take advantage from the rising popularity of the 1963 chronograph (thanks to those other companies) and released another limited edition of the same chronographs, with small differences though, for 400$ when the other companies were selling it for 200 - 300$.
When Winston said he learned "Ni hao" from a Japanese anime I instantly thought Ranma 1/2 lol. Lucky my dad escaped China when he was a teenager around the cultural revolution time. He was very creative, inventive, also very unique and outspoken. I don’t think he would had survived in China if he stayed.
I really have taken great interest and great delight in watching your videos. I have learned more about China from watching your videos than I have from any other source. I am glad that you show all sides of China, not just the good or just the bad, but everything in a totally objective, not subjective manner. And I have given you a "thumbs up" on every single video that I have watched. And I have been watching your videos EVERY DAY (usually multiple videos on any given day) over the course of the past couple weeks, after I saw the first video. And, of course, I am a subscriber. Keep up the good work guys!
Hey SerpentZA and C-Milk, thanks for the video and I just wanted to say some things about Hallstatt (since I'm from Austria, born in Salzburg but living in Vienna now). They copied Hallstatt because it is said that is one of the most beautiful village (or city) you can visit in Austria. The church you visited in the copy village isn't a church at all. It looks from the outside like a church but it is missing a lot of things inside: the small water wells at the entrance, where the holy water is stored, the benches for people and the most important thing: there is no altar or a cross behind the altar. I went with my wife to real Hallstatt and we met a lot of Chinese tourists there. The strangest thing was they wanted to photograph our food that we ordered. You can also rent "Trachten", traditional clothings in the town, they even put an Asian person (can't tell if it was Japanese or Chinese) on the outside of the store as advertisement. It was very weird to see Chinese people in Trachten going around.
+Chris Dooley Different setting and that's about it. Doesn't sound like you have been to China but hey you still felt entitled to jump on the mainstream circle jerk.
Yeah, no. They're different worlds. I've spent a decent amount of time in both. I'd happily move to HK, I'll no longer even go to the mainland to see my in-laws
"gauges don't work on his bike" *The electronic gauge? Generally cameras don't have the same refresh rate as displays. Eg a camera shows a dot for what the eye sees as a "8".*
Dai Qibao His g-a-u-g-e-s... Google "gauge". they're the thing's that tell you how fast you are going and how many RPMs the engine is doing. The gigantic ROUND things attached to his handlebars. You don't own a vehicle do you? lol The electronic component is not a gauge, it's a scrolling advertisement for his website...
NorthernChev "The electronic component is a scrolling advertisement for his website." *Oh, okay. My best guess is it didn't work when we bought the bike and there's no point in fixing it.* *A reason can be to prevent odometer readings for a higher resale value. In Japan, video of a speed "gauge" above the posted limit can result in a fine delivered to the owner. On RUclips, videos of speeding odometer readings has been videos that where disabled.* *FYI The scrolling advertisement device looks very much like an electric speedometer.*
Dai Qibao ...you make a very good point about not running the odometer to keep resale value up. As well, you are right about posted videos above the speed limit. Thanks!
My wife grew up in Taiwan, and she actually forgot how to read certain characters after two years in the States. (Chinese is literally thousands of characters, and if you forget any of them, you have to look them up; unlike a phonetic language, there's no way to sound a character out.)
I teach Chinese exchange students from the mainland who are studying for their BA degree and I can't totally agree with you saying that they are always mindlessly copying everything. If I give them an assignment, they often do original and fun things. Maybe they are a bit more progressive, being foreign language students and such, but I don't think that they lack originality.
Why would anyone put effort into being original if there's no reward? Through lack of patent protection, China managed to freeload off of foreign innovations but also destroyed their own credibility and creative potential.
I just realized, Matt is very polite and addresses "Cmilk" but I very rarely hear Cmilk do the same. Obviously you guys have a format that you are adhering to. Its interesting that china as a country is behaving much like a greedy corporation absorbing great ideas and ingenious small companies over time or as they need it, paying off people for their great ideas or on the darker side simply killing off those who don't comply/playball.
Many years ago I lived and worked in Thailand, piracy was a massive issue back then as well. There was an IT mall called Pantip Plaza where you could literally buy anything IT related but would most likely be a pirate version lol. There were Thai language versions of Windows before Microsoft produced any. We discovered that when I rang Microsoft tech support regarding an issue with out Thai windows. The tech guy on the other end said We don't make a Thai language version currently.
I've become a big fan of your videos and really love them. I agree with your views on this copying thing but I have to disagree that that "European" village has nothing to offer. I would love to visit it just for the fun novelty factor. I wonder if any of the restaurants there actually are in service because if they have enough traffic it seems it would be a great idea to have them actually serve food. Here in America, we have a town that has cheap, scaled down, replicated structures of other cities, such as Paris, New York, and Egypt, all within the same block...Las Vegas.
But Las evgas is an actually FUNCTIONING CITY. Those replicas are there just for show not like in China actually trying to make people believe it's Chinese
That's just a touristcity, Las Vegas, though and it's riddled with whores and homeless. Go take a walk at 6 in the morning along the strip and they're sprawled out sleeping off hangovers in the gutters like cockroaches.
@@qweqqweq2090 sure, it’s a dump once you leave the hotels, but it’s a fully functional city. it’s got stores, it’s got restaurants, it’s got car dealerships, it’s got suburbs, it’s got apartments, all with a population of over half a million, unlike these fake “utopian” abandoned chinese cities.

I lived in Jingzhou for a year back in 2004, and I built a computer and specifically hunted for a legitimate version of Windows as well and could not find a single legitimate version at all either.
As you guys are into bikes, there is this famous Indian bike from Bajaj..called Pulsar..launched in 2001..as it became popular in India...there was a chinese version of it called Gulsar
piracy and copyright violations are pretty common in China , which I think is not good for startup innovation but good for simulation and learn to adapt. I currently live in US , most American think China is barely a copycat and definitely hate this part of Chinese culture.
I think it's a good way for chinese businesses to take their first steps so to speak, like a test run - where they can take apart a popular product, see how it works, what makes it popular and other things. I like to show people an old radio my grandparents had at their house, which was made in japan after the war - but was basically a very basic radio put together from american parts, then you see the products coming out of japan today, which are usually unique to a specific company, developed over many years and of a high quality.

The US are the thieves of the world. Edison stole his ideas, the Wright brothers were patent trolls. The CIA steals European designs and passes them on to US industry. Crooked two faced fuckwits.
I am very Fortunate. I knew this about Chinese culture. I have learned to manage my Supply Chain and Create a Black Box around everything is Work with.
the reason we protect IP is to foster innovation. The fact is the biggest cost with a new invention is the huge amounts of time capital investment and risk in developing the new invention. If someone else does all the heavy lifting and takes all the risk and you get to steal the reward, no one will bother innovating and the society stagnates. In the west we often credit our success to the printing press but china had it centuries before. It was mostly patents and intellectual property that spurred innovation in the west and allowed us to leap centuries ahead of china and the lack of IP is why china didn't advance at all between the 12th century and 19th century.
That copy Austrian village looked quite good quality construction compared to other developments you guys have showed. Those buildings looked very well maintained. i wonder if that still holds up today, 3 years later.
I started watching your shows yesterday and enjoy them and the others that you guys do. I've never been out of the US and I am unable to travel due to health issues so you guys are my way of enjoying China and even New York... (even though I live about 2 hrs from New York, New York...) The one I enjoyed the most so far is the Christmas video on Laowhy86. I have liked most every video I have watched and subscribed to most of your channels. Hope to see more and thank you for doing what you guys do.
Nice video as always, I really enjoy watching it. About the 'Running Man' thing, I want to provide some background knowledge. The reality show '奔跑吧, 兄弟' was originated from the Korean show 'Running Man', and the Korean company who created this show also made this Chinese version by cooperating with the local channel. The background music used in this show, actually any show in Chinese TV program, is authorized by Universal Music Publishing group, through a company called 松巴音乐. You can find the information here: www.songba.org/about.asp, if you are interested, but unfortunately, it is only in Chinese. I would say piracy in China is definitely a big problem, such as the cars, the brands, the electronics stuff etc. But in recent few years, copyright of the TV shows and music is more and more addressed, especially in big media companies. I actually can find more Chinese TV shows for free on youtube rather than Youku and IQiyi because of the copyright issue.
Thank you. I appreciate the insight from Matt at ~1:50 - it is an articulate description / rationalization of some background behind the concept of putting society over the individual versus the opposite here in the US (and admittedly being willing to greatly harm our society to protect individual rights). Having traveled to China many times on business, I've had a lot of exposure to China, but lack the cultural insight that comes from "living China". I've found a lot about China that I respect, even wish we could learn from SE Asian cultures (although, China has become scarier over the past 2-3 years since I was last in Shanghai), but there are these topics that are so counter to my own cultural identity, that they are simply hard to explain / rationalize / understand. Also, what's the history behind C-Milk?
2:00 well that's not exactly true. In the United States at least, ideas are not intellectual property-tangible expressions of ideas are. 5:40 at least you got a better operating system
M VGA no one except poor and uneducated farmer wanna buy this stupid car. I didn't mean anything bad for chinese farmer, i mean there are quite a lot of man in village know nothing about car brands. Whatever, It is a joke in China. You won't see it often on the road. Infact i never see any real one on the road. I am in beijing.
@Ben Daulton Piracy is very beneficial to the economy, why would you wanna stop it? Let the stupid people buy knockoffs. If they won't, it's the pirating company's problem. Bad people getting in trouble in both cases, it's a win-win.
This village is ridicilous and cool at the same time. I remember watching some pictures on the web few years ago i think, i'm not sure. Or maybe that was another place in China with a same concept heheh. When chinese knock-offs are good, i don't mind buying them, and right now chinese industry starts to actually produce good stuff, for example i'm a happy huawei honor 6 owner and i know a lot of people here in Europe who switched to this system by now. Probably gonna try that Xiao Mi action camera this year i think, since i sold my GoPro and need another such camera this summer. Can't wait when China will start making good photo gear, it will happen eventually. So far i only own YongNuo flash which i'm happy with.
omg what Winston said about legit copies of windows, that has been on my mind for awhile.... I remember years ago just thinking... do people in china actually buy windows lol

Wow ive become to really enjoy your videos guys! Definitely subbed! You both really shed light on the way of living in China wow! PS why did you guys decide to live in China? You guys shit on China quite a bit lol.
As the first generation growing up in the digital era, I have seen so much in terms of piracy and how companies fought against it and struggled to survive. In the 1990s, there were some Chinese gaming studios that tried to do business by selling copies of their games. But they died one after one because people could download 'free' version shortly after the official launch. The very few studios that lived to today have a successful title of series and a solid fan base that chooses to buy the game instead of downloading 'free' versions. That's why majority of Chinese gaming industries are just copying some western games without putting effort into design of their own game.
Not recently. Historically, they were innovators. The scripts of other languages of the region are all based on Chinese. People copied Chinese chopsticks, Chinese pottery, Chinese martial arts, Chinese religion... but now China copies the west.
Burke's art is probably the worst art I've ever seen on display, but I will freely admit that it's far better than anything I could ever draw, believe it or not.

The funniest thing here is a discussion about piracy with one guy whose name is Yolo swaggins... And actually my name is sol Cutta, his is derivative, mine is actual carbon copyright.. Hahah.. So there u have it.
i'm chinese living in europe and i been binge listening to this show for a few days, very interesting : D
Interesting about the star wars theme song. There used to be a series in China that used the Braveheart soundtrack, on a loop, for the entire episodes. Seriously. I had the same CD. It was literally just the CD, on a loop.
+Joshua Bray that is hilarious
I am new to your channel but must say how much I am enjoying learning about China through your eyes.
Nice N7 jacket! Fellow Mass Effect fan? :)
+Jakub Zeman you guessed it
You guys are great!
The new opening song is great. Fits the channel so well. Keep it up guys! Stay awesome!
Good channel you guys I've Been subbed to SerpentZA, Laowhy86, and Prozzie for a bit now (I'm catching up on some stuff I missed) and I got to say even though it seems you guys talk about a lot of bad stuff it still looks like a cool experience to come and stay in China for a visit. What I've found to be true is everybody talks a little smack about where they live anyways :P . With that said your adventures look really fun and I'm always learning something every video. So once again Tyvm for all the awesome content.
Lets call it what it is. STEALING
are you one of the tribesmen who thinks having their picture taken steals their soul?
Death yeah they're like npcs in real life kinda like social justice warriors they all use the same insult, same ideology, same talking point, same opinions and same virtue signalling they have no creativity they just copy their insults and opinionslike sheeps
The low mounted camera makes me remember when I was just a small kid, riding with my father on his Vespa. I had to stand in front of the seat, hold on to the handle bars, and looking barely over the instrument. :-)
china is not a market but a factory :)
HotZetiGer basically
HotZetiGer Not a proper one either.
HotZetiGer Yeah your right
You two Brothers are a riot !LoL! Nice Job Fellas Great Work on the Video and Your first-hand LoOk into the Life of the Chinese people . You gave me a glimpse into their CrOoked ways in the realm of Piracy!LoL!Much Love to You Fellas, i Pray the Best for Both of You and Your Love Ones !!Keep Up the Excellent Work !!
Anyone else find this sad? I find this sad.
+crackedcookies for me the saddest part was that there's a grown man trying to sell his finger paintings to unsuspecting Chinese people as "art"
+serpentza BURKE!
picasso and the rest ''artists'' sold their shit for millions , well maybe afdter their death....but still their shitty paintings worth millions
Maybe they are copys too..
tuna asserole
I'm coming to China soon from UK cant wait to see the culture
And a year later how’d you like it? Did you go to the mainland or HK? I lived in Hong Kong and it’s worlds different
+Chris Dooley
Different setting and that's about it. Doesn't sound like you have been to China but hey you still felt entitled to jump on the mainstream circle jerk.
Yeah, no. They're different worlds.
I've spent a decent amount of time in both. I'd happily move to HK, I'll no longer even go to the mainland to see my in-laws
how was it? :D
One of the best and most insightful vids you guys have made. Appreciated the honesty about how you learned the language at the end too.
So.... I've noticed episode after episode that Winston's gauges don't work on his bike. Am I seeing this correctly?
"gauges don't work on his bike"
*The electronic gauge? Generally cameras don't have the same refresh rate as displays. Eg a camera shows a dot for what the eye sees as a "8".*
Dai Qibao His g-a-u-g-e-s... Google "gauge". they're the thing's that tell you how fast you are going and how many RPMs the engine is doing. The gigantic ROUND things attached to his handlebars. You don't own a vehicle do you? lol The electronic component is not a gauge, it's a scrolling advertisement for his website...
NorthernChev "The electronic component is a scrolling advertisement for his website."
*Oh, okay. My best guess is it didn't work when we bought the bike and there's no point in fixing it.*
*A reason can be to prevent odometer readings for a higher resale value. In Japan, video of a speed "gauge" above the posted limit can result in a fine delivered to the owner. On RUclips, videos of speeding odometer readings has been videos that where disabled.*
*FYI The scrolling advertisement device looks very much like an electric speedometer.*
Dai Qibao ...you make a very good point about not running the odometer to keep resale value up. As well, you are right about posted videos above the speed limit. Thanks!
I saw that too....
Phil Shary that was from c-milk's experience so....
Someone probably told them not to emulate others' work when in the west.
Why would anyone put effort into being original if there's no reward? Through lack of patent protection, China managed to freeload off of foreign innovations but also destroyed their own credibility and creative potential.
Phil Shary Yeah he didn't say "mindlessly copying everything" lmao at least listen
1:46 7:59 8:13 8:28 12:15 basically
You have to much free time, dont you?
LoL, you can say that.
i love timestamps
Me too
2:22 “Piracy and copying things was never ever frowned upon because individual thought was never appreciated”. Spot-on.
At 2:20 the guy driving the wrong way on the freeway. 😧
I want to say I deeply appreciate all of these videos you put out.
11:20
Schlong is a real band.
Those a real tracks.
.
Love the N7 jacket, brother.
China is hilarious. Greetings from Taipei... im also here 10 years.
Taiwan is immoral for exporting large quantities of swindlers
Taiwai is real china or is it?
they are not hilarious they are repulsive.
I watched a few of your videos and impressive by your stating of facts. For most people who do not like to know the truth because it hurts. There are people like you guys straight way to point out the trouble and will be people there to give the solutions to solve. BTW, It's cool to be a person to find problems and providing the facts.
Seán O'Nilbud Nutcase
Love your N7 jacket.
Schlong is actually a real band lol, I had to look it up :D
Really cool commentary with motorcycle riding!
+tiabilly thanks for the insight! very good follow up for the viewers!
Watched everyone of your episodes, awesome content!! next time you are in the states stop by norfolk Va. and come ride with us!
HOLY SHIT! I knew piracy was bad in China but I never imagine it was this bad. Pirated Vehicles? UNBELIEVABLE!
Pirated Chevy's and yet people still get mad at trump for adding tariff's.
@Ben Daulton Piracy is very beneficial to the economy, why would you wanna stop it? Let the stupid people buy knockoffs. If they won't, it's the pirating company's problem. Bad people getting in trouble in both cases, it's a win-win.
I just liked because you said thanks for liking. I have lived in China for more than 9 years- good videos guys. I am in Jinhua and Nanjing. Cheers!
Really like to follow up with you two, there is chemistry here that makes this video series possible.
Man if those students did that here in the Netherlands every student would fail aha
Yeah that gets you expelled in the USA. Copying a sentence or two gets you in trouble, but if you copy 90% of a paper you are done.
felt like the echo was mad loud in that art gallery church you guys weren't tripping about Burke listening in?? lol dope!
omg what Winston said about legit copies of windows, that has been on my mind for awhile.... I remember years ago just thinking... do people in china actually buy windows lol
Hi Guys!
I like your bikes, what brand they r?
And I start following your shows for a week or so, and I can't get enough!
Well done! Ok, I am embarrassed by my english, yours is spuer trouper!
Wow ive become to really enjoy your videos guys! Definitely subbed! You both really shed light on the way of living in China wow!
PS why did you guys decide to live in China? You guys shit on China quite a bit lol.
Today, this video is EXACTLY 1 year old. Happy birthday video!
11:24 Haha, love the number 7. Fistfull of pancreas 😂😂 And by the way @ADVChina
this is my favorite video thus far 😁👍🏻
man this channel is so eye opening
It took me over a year to realise c-milk is jizz. XD
I prefer collectivism over individualism. There's also a replica Venice in Qatar.
Individualism is what Chinese need. Like you said, it was buried in Confucianism.
And you gonna bring it with restrictive, creativity hurting "copyrights"? Yeah, good luck with that.
Do the Chinese have any original thoughts or ideas?
Nero0 lol good question
Nero0 Yes.
Besides gunpowder? ;P
Not recently. Historically, they were innovators. The scripts of other languages of the region are all based on Chinese. People copied Chinese chopsticks, Chinese pottery, Chinese martial arts, Chinese religion... but now China copies the west.
Apparently they also had their own kind of abacus. Very beautiful poetry too. They also gave it their own twist to buddhism (zen)
1:20 I love the decorations on the lamp poles. 😍
Nice vedio! Can you make a vedio in chengdu please~
+袁泊育 If we're up in Chengdu for whatever reason (it's thousands of KMS away), then we'll make a vid! :)
+serpentza Thank you I love your vedio(≧∇≦)~ Actually chengdu is my homecity,so wish you can visit it too!🎉
+袁泊育 we would love to go!
Don't want to interfere with your enthusiasm or anything but it is *video not vedio, carry on!
Great video!!! Thanks guys.
Burke's art is probably the worst art I've ever seen on display, but I will freely admit that it's far better than anything I could ever draw, believe it or not.
I was quite surprised by the crafting that the recreation Church had, hope it stands up to closer inspection?
