When i did this for the first time and saw Grand Cross being cast I had horror flash backs from FF9 and began to make damn sure i avoided it. I didn't.
I love how they keep making what should rightfully so be completely alien threats...into alien threats in XIV. Like dragons are canonically aliens, Omega is canonically alien, and now Ultima is some kind of alien as well. Love it.
Ultima shares similar traits to Creator's design of FFIV The After Years. In a sense, she can also create crystals as well. And in another sense, Jenova also shares similar designs to Creator if you look at Bizzaro Sephiroth as reference to what Jenova could have possibly shaped into. It's said that Creator's species left their homeworld to find life on new planets to sustain themselves. Theoretically, it's possible these three are of the same species.
So I just started playing FFXIV about a week ago, and this? I like this. As an FFT fan (and classic FF fan in general), I love the old bosses being included as raids.
Why are people upset about Ultima not using "Esper Battle" from XII? The raid was said to be mostly Tactic based and Ultima was from Tactics before XII with her own music so it makes more sense for that to be used over a more general XII song. Or in short: It's the final boss it should have the final boss music
Personally I think it would have been cool if they used both themes for the battle or actually remixed one of them instead of just reusing the original.
@@craigfunk3453 Oh definitely. It's obvious her base inspiration comes from the 12 version. And might just be me, but her lower half also reminds me of Ansem's final form from KH1.
Theme for phase 2. Sorta annoyed he didn't put phase 1 here. Ultima's transformation. Sure it was used in Rabanastre for the final boss but that theme was originally Ultima phase 1. The transition music from the cutscene before the battle starts in Tactics
The music is ivalice's world. Vagrant Story vibes to the full. Which makes me happy. I love that game and it was the darkest game i ever played from Square. Too bad we will never see Ashley in any new game. He became way too powerful in the end.
When I first fight this boss, I remember being scared shitless by the surroundings, and boy, that music made things worse. I love the feeling though. Playing through this raid as an AST was a blast
@@Nesaru Her top half is reminscient of Ultima from XII and the skeletal features of her lower half are reminiscent of Ultima's second form from Tactics.
Honestly it's nice to see that gnarly fallen appear in FF14 along with other iconic ff villains like Kefka, Exdeath, CoD, Garland, and Xande. Though I wonder who'll be next? FF11's Eald'narche and or Kam'lanaut?
Here me out: Ultimecia but she is a Garlean and her backstory is she has the Echo. That contradiction ruins her life and causes her to become this broken evil force that doesn't have anything but revenge on Garlemald.
You know what would of made these raids funnier if every time someone in your party died all you would hear in the background is the male or female death cry from fft lol
Definitely got some Jenova vibes from what lore we were given about this character. Alien, influences people in some way, wants to kill the planet (and maybe use it to travel to another planet to begin the process anew), etc.
Since aliens are starting to play a part in this, maybe something like Jenova may appear in 5.0? Garleans captures an unknown species and is kept in a castrum or cereleum plant dubbed "Migar"?
@@JamesTheTurnbull I mean, Ultima already kinda plays the role of Jenova. All she's missing is the 'space-parasite' and 'shape-shifts to look like the inhabitants of the planet' deal... unless her true form is the monster face thing below her lady form (which might just be an illusion or shape created so she could somewhat mingle with the humans).
I posted this on another comment but I really wanna get this idea out there.
Original FFT had some possible translation issues as well as various names having length issi2es so being redone to fit (Algus is Argath in the War of the Lions remake for example). Altima can also be used as a reference for FFT final boss phase 1 for Altima, the Bloody Angel to differentiate between the boss and the Ultima spells she could use in either phase of the battle (including the tier 2 all-ultima in classic FFT)
I think that's what Ultimate Illusion was, going by what she says. From Tactics: "Simmering life-light, be a tower of power! All-ultima!" From XIV: "Simmer does the light of life before rising to the heavens in a cleansing conflagration of divine benevolence."
Blame the translation. The spell incantation is even more inaccurate then the already inaccurate FFT translation. FFT at least has the Tower of Power part right. How did FF14 messed even that up?
**SNRK** this alliance raid series just didn't have anything for me outside of Fran, Rabanastre, and some random Seeq enemies. When it comes to Ivalice sure there's XII but I mostly remember Tactics Advance/A2. I think that's more die to the fact that you keep any LB built up from phase 1 going into final phase. So you could LB3 her relatively early to speed the fight along and get another LB2 if needed
A year late here, but I disagree. It's a year later and we still have people having multiple full-party wipes to the other 3 bosses in this tier. Combine that and the trash pulls, and the groups I'm in usually average with
In the raid? Or just in the fight. Because both of the themes played here are the same for the same boss in FFT. ruclips.net/video/HKWhMkYiiEo/видео.html
This is Ultima theme from the tactics series; contrary to the more consistent appearances as a summon, Ultima is the final boss of the tactics series and she has two forms, a human like one which is the "demi-virgo" adds you see in FFXIV and the demonic form which is called "Arch Seraph Ultima". The later resembles a little bit the FFXIV version of Ultima but in truth this FFXIV version of Ultima is a mix between tactics both forms and some of the FF12 one
The one thing I can't help but noticing here is that this theme sounds similar to Iban's theme in Runescape. Especially in the more ominous portions of the song before and during the part where you are weaving your way back towards the boss while avoiding the AoE's. Overall, I think this theme is really good and fully captures the feeling of this fight.
Hold up...they recycled The Pervert?! Slapped it together with Ultima, the Perfect Body and called it good? Lazy. I approve. While they were weak for Final Fantasy bosses, they had awesome music.

That's kind of the thing, though: What makes FFXIV into FFXIV is the amount of callbacks it has, and how it manages to turn them into its own thing. The old FF summons are Primals. The Garlean Empire is a mishmash of every evil empire in the series (mostly FF6 and FF12 due to magitech). Hell, Ivalice was theorized to be part of Hydaelyn/the source world from what, 1.0? The very bedrock of this game is fortified with lore that is very heavily inspired by past games in a way that makes them easy to access for people who aren't as familiar with the series, but also an exciting callback to full-blown fans. I do think that maybe, the Omega series could feel less like a showcase battle royale. I am always on board for more complex environments with raids, and this expansion's raid cycle was pretty disappointing for that. But the lore behind it fits for this game's incarnation of Omega, and paints a much more complex figure around the megaboss of the series instead of it just being randomly roaming around a dungeon.
