Such a great way to present this car taking into account almost all the "+" & "-" 😁👍 Normally a 530d should be the best price/ performance option, but the 540d will show you better the potential of a sporty diesel car! 👊✌
You can reset the BMW infotainment by holding the power button down for a solid 20-30 seconds straight. Not that it excuses the bugs you mentioned -- it definitely doesn't.
Just a great all round package this generation 5 not perfect but a very good car if you are traveling long distance, excellent reviews on this channel 👍.
Own the 2022 Model. Abso-fucking-lutely love this car. So glad yo rims are black too. Got my baby blacked out, with a small black lip spoiler. Looks sexy af. More so when I snail at 5Kmph in LA's traffic, pull up for coffee, and finally hit the office & repeat for 4 days a week lmaooooooo.
Don’t worry mate. Porsche and some Japanese companies are pouring tons into engineering of cleaner fuels. Essentially taking the waste of dirty air-> taking the particles and doing some magic-> make it into clean fuel and it’s cleaner to produce than electricity. Don’t lose faith yet!
I'm not sure that worked in my case, but I will try next time I have an issue like that. I think BMW has updated the software since then, because I rarely get AA crashing in BMW cars these days.
As an owner of quite spect car, I really advise to go for modern driving aids. But funny thing that the worst automated system of all is rain sensor - it drives me crazy and heard from colleagues, that it's so in many cars.
Wow; that rear collision avoidance thing sounds interesting. Wasn't your natural reaction to jerk the car back into your existing lane -- not realizing what was going on?
It's so well implemented, the maneuver felt almost natural. Also, by the time I was in the other lane I had the other car on my left, so there was a bit of force applied on the steering so that I would not over-correct.
@@MarekDrives - Wow; amazing technology. Very impressive. I've never even heard of this before. I think BMW needs to advertise this feature more -- I'm always freaked out about getting rear-ended.
I love ( i’d say the face lifted BMW5, but i’m talking about you reviews😁) it. I understand nobody has interest to make the PERFECT CAR, but why BMW are always famous with the lack of space in the back..and in the trunk as well!? But the balance between the performance and the joy of driving, and such minor issues like 👆 and android auto problems worth it i guess 🤔! I like the recent 3 and 5 series. But if i have a chance or finance to buy my self such a car one day it would be.. X3 i guess 😁 Great review as usual, Marek! Have a nice weekend
The trunk is pretty much class-standard in size. An Audi A6 sedan or E-class sedan doesn't really offer any more trunk-space. And for the passenger-space: Just don't go for comfort- or M-seats and you easily add a few centimetres for the passengers legroom. Those comfort- and M-seats are pretty bulky but offer great riding comfort in exchange..
10:29 onwards. It freaks me out when cars get a mind of their own. Imagine an old car with tired/delusional sensors... Hazard is a small word. Otherwise not bad! 🙂
I'm pretty sure diesel cars have a lot of potential, especially when you're traveling a lot. My average annual mileage is more than 35K km and I don't see which modern technology can replace good old diesel. P.S. Collision avoidance is an interesting thing!
Devilishly so. And it's totally non-replicable for the camera. Well... I'd give it a try on camera, if I knew I'd get the views to cover potential claims by BMW :)
Wonderful review Marek. This is a very handsome car isn't it? And that engine?? That sounds like it is very "entertaining" with that amount of torque. Re: the accident avoidance system driving you into the next lane. I'm not sure that would have given me a great amount of comfort. I think I would need to have an BMW engineer explain to me how and when these systems were going to work. I drove a X3 with a frontal collision system and I was trying to pass somebody in city traffic. There were parked cars on the right ahead on the other side of an intersection and I wanted to merge into the left in front of a car moving along side me and the car started to brake for me. It thought I was going to crash into the parked car. That was not good. I'd love to see the wagon version of this. BMW killed both the 3 and 5 series wagons in Canada. BOOOOOO. Anyways, always looking forward to seeing your reviews!!
OK, so there are several things here to unpack :) "Overtake" and "intersection" sound unwise, but I understand that sometimes you just need to overtake someone quickly, and you judge the distance, and know it's going to be fine. I recall the early versions of front collision warning/mitigating systems tended to be oversensitive for keen drivers. Over the years either I've become more relaxed or the systems have improved. I find that the more powerful car I drive, the less likely I am to try out its potential on public roads. So I often find myself stuck behind a lorry, because I know overtaking it would be pushing it a bit too much for comfort, but that doesn't stop a sales rep in the lowest engine version of whatever compact hatchback overtaking me, the lorry, and three cars in front of the lorry in one go completely blind, because there a corner or a hill :) You can adjust how responsive some of those driver aids are supposed to be. Also some of the systems, like this rear collision avoidance, are hard to demo, because a number of conditions have to be met in order for it to work. I didn't know such a thing existed until I experienced it in action, and I started reading up on it. I didn't get a chance to talk to the PR guy in BMW yet, but I bet after watching this episode he's going to call me next week to give me more information. All that being said, I recently watched one of those Tesla owner FSD update videos, and despite this being the bleeding edge tech, the car got lost on wide, one-way American city streets in broad daylight.
@@MarekDrives yes, well I was passing somebody who was signalling that they were turning left, then they decided they didn’t want to turn left and accelerated straight. This happens a lot in Toronto as most main roads are 4 lanes (2 going each direction) with parked cars maybe 25m after the intersection. On the other side of the intersection I was going to accelerate to be well clear of the car behind but the system thought I was going to drive into the parked car so it braked. A lot of crazy stuff goes on in a city of 4-5 million people esp with cyclists and pedestrians going through red lights etc. I’m not sure I would trust a system like this. Maybe I’m wrong but I’d be surprised after that incident that the system did the right thing. I guess you just need to know what to expect from your car. I would think on the highway it's much more straight forward.
Cars have so much tech on bard these days that dealers should offer some kind of demo/training before handing over a new car. It's hard to discuss what exactly happened in your case without at least a photo of the street ahead. Which model year was this?
@@MarekDrives it was a 2019 X3. I was actually with the BMW salesperson for a test drive and he said after it happened that "the system is too sensitive and isn't analyzing the situation properly". He said he turns the system off in the city and many of his customers do the same. LOL. To your point, maybe BMW was getting a lot of negative feedback about the system being too sensitive and they've adjusted the sensitivity in the past couple years. Who knows. I agree with you, when I get our new car this year I will ask a lot of question about what to expect.
That could be down to some regional programming of the system, because I never had that problem in a BMW, Mercedes or Volvo. Meanwhile today I picked up a Hyundai Elantra, and I can't change the lane without it beeping at me constantly that there's someone in the blindspot. I set the sensitivity to its lowest setting, and it's still difficult to drive normally around the city.

Just got to start practice driving, and the only car we've got on hand is a 2021 540d. I am not complaining lol.

As ever, excellent review. I'm not a fan of BMWs, but superficially, it's a nice motor.
Fair enough!
Its a great car and it's a shame cars and engines like this will disappear soon, tears on my eyes for that 😢
