Granny I watched you in 2020 when I started using my brother 2600. You advice helped me to work with my sewing machine when I was having problems. I started sewing to make face masks for family. Thank you so much. I was watching another video from brother and I could not understand how to get the straight stitch because the lady said for straight stitch use SS...lol. Thanks, thanks.
Hi, the SS on this machine stands for Stretch Stitches, technically SS #14 is the straight stretch stitch so that lady wasn't entirely wrong, hahahahaha! You want to use the SS ones to sew on any fabric that stretches, if you don't you will be popping your stitches all day, every day whenever you go to put on that cotton jersey T-shirt you made for yourself as the neckline and sleeves won't stretch properly with non-stretch stitiches used to sew them!

Could you please go into the use of dials from above the needle? I don’t understand how they work. I was hoping this video would also cover those dials functions but regardless it is super comprehensive and cleared up confusion about the stitch selection.
Dial on the top left: Upper tension-control dial (0-9). This controls the tension of the upper thread. Dial to the top right Stitch Width (0-5): Numbers marked on the dial represent the stitch width. The higher the number, the wider the stitch. Note: When the Straight or Triple Stretch Stitch is selected, the needle position can be changed from left to right by adjusting the stitch width dial.🪡

What do the dials on the top do? I know they have something to do with tension, but no matter what I do the bottom of my fabric (it's a plain, thin, cotton-type one) keeps advancing on its passion for developing birds' nests. I think once the machine sort of began to get tangled (more like loose, though) and hen straightened out but then I adjusted the dials and it failed again...
Ok. by taking screenshot I found following settings for straight one 1. Tension Wheel ( upper from left side first wheel) is on 5 2. Next wheel ( upper left second wheel) : 5 3. Gray wheel : 4 4. Outside wheel next to the gray wheel : 2
AlaskaGranny thank you for the reply.yes, I took it as a base and did some experiments and finally set tension wheel to 3 and gray wheel to 3 now working good. Thanks.
+Sharen Cheathon I am not sure why your stitches wouldn't change. Try turning it a few times in case it is stuck. I know my machine sometimes sits idle for months, and may need encouragement to get going again. Make sure the needle is raised completely when trying to change the stitch. I wish I had a sure answer. Let me know if you have any luck, and I hope it is stuck in a basic stitch so you can at least use your machine.
Just got a brother xr3774......new beginner. Appreciate this video, simple and plain. Is there a chart available w/ settings for each stitch? If you want a variation of that stitch, you can adjust....something BUT a basic default setting chart would be very helpful as a place to begin. Do you know of any? Thank you again.....

Hi, I have a brother xl2600i and I'm wanting to finish the edges of my dress since I don't have a serger and I saw a tutorial that suggested using the overedge stitch. I have a blind stitch foot that came with my machine which has an L engraved onto it. Should I use this foot and place my stitch setting onto 16 or 17 for overlock stitching? I've never used this foot before but wondering if that will help guide my fabric through and keep it on the edge? If so do you have a tutorial that shows how to use this foot? Thank you for your help in advance :)
I do not have that foot, so cannot share any tips. I don't have a serger, either. I trim the edges with pinking sheers, or do a simple zigzag along any edges I think may unravel. I hope you find what you are looking for to help you finish your dress nicely.
Hi Joanne, You will NOT want to use the blind hem stitch foot for finishing seams. Here are some great videos on how to use the overedge/overcast foot and the proper stitches. One by Singer: ruclips.net/video/qVczdRK_K6s/видео.html (the overedge foot is at 8:41 but the whole video is great to see all the feet and what they do); another: ruclips.net/video/mc5Y8noP0IE/видео.html and lastly, ruclips.net/video/dUUxIPxHWI4/видео.html . Also, Professor Pincushion, here on RUclips, has several great tutorials on sewing. Here's one on finishing seams with or without using fancy feet: ruclips.net/video/cfYI2cT7Qwg/видео.html I think you will find these useful! Cheers!
You are welcome. I hope you will check out more videos on how I use the Brother sewing machine at my website. Here is a link. www.alaskagranny.com/simple-sewing/
Dial on the top left: Upper tension-control dial (0-9). This controls the tension of the upper thread. Dial to the top right Stitch Width (0-5): Numbers marked on the dial represent the stitch width. The higher the number, the wider the stitch. Note: When the Straight or Triple Stretch Stitch is selected, the needle position can be changed from left to right by adjusting the stitch width dial. Stitch Length Dial: Depending on the selected stitch, you may need to adjust the stitch length for best results. The numbers marked on the stitch length dial represent the stitch length in millimeters (mm) (1/25 inch). THE HIGHER THE NUMBER, THE LONGER THE STITCH. With the “0” setting, material is not fed. This is used when sewing a button. The “F” range is for making a satin stitch (close zigzag stitch), which is used for making buttonholes and decorative stitches. The position needed for making the satin stitch varies according to the material and thread being used. To determine the exact dial position, first test the stitch and length settings on a scrap piece of fabric to observe the feeding of the material.🪡
Hi ! I really enjoy your videos! I'm currently doing my GCSE textile coursework and I've done a bunch of stitches and I have no idea what they are called! I have looked everywhere. I was wondering if you would be able to help me please? Although I need to send you pictures of what they look like. thank you! :)
I probably do not know what the stitches are supposed to be called. Does your machine have a guide book? Perhaps you course has a text book or guide. Check with your instructor.
i usually use straight stitch. and my stitch is not clean. i usually do cotton. can u please tell me the setting that i should use for stitch width dial and upper tension control dial.
Merci infiniment

I hope you see this.. I have the same sewing machine. I am new to quilting. I just made my first quilt.. a pixel skull quilt.. took forever.. anyways, I have it all ready and tried to do just lines for the quilting part. But I hate it..of course I have to do everything the hard way the first time.. my question is ,...I bought one of those attachments to free motion quilt.. but lowing the feed dogs u cant.. and that plastic part u put over them seems to be too thick. Is that normal. And is it possible to free motion on this sewing machine..?? Hooe someone can help me
I have never made more than basics with this sewing machine. Your quilt sounds impressive! Perhaps you know someone with a quilting sewing machine that can help.
Hi how are you i have this sewing machine and i try the straight one but it didn't work with me the stitch won't set on the fabric can you help me with that
Do you have the front dial set on 2? Is the back dial set on 3 or 4? Take out your bobbin and make sure you have placed it with the thread coming toward the front. Take out the thread and re thread the machine. Make sure you lower the needle to catch the bobbin thread, and pull both threads to the back. Make a long tail on the threads and hold them when you begin to stitch. You have to have both threads from the top and the bottom together for the machine to stitch them together. You can also try rewinding the bobbin and starting over. I have had the machine not seem to sew when I began a project before, and tried these steps. I took the threads out and re threaded the machine. It worked for me to start over. Who knows why, but it worked and the machine sewed fine. Try these tips, and let me know if it works. Good luck!
I need help! I just unpacked my brother xl2600i and the needle is not aligned properly. it hits the foot and plate. The needles are straight and they came new with the machine. Am I missing something? I read through the manuel.
Take the needle completely out, and put in another one. Tighten it with the little screwdriver. See if the new needle will work. The needle may look straight, but was damaged in shipping. Let me know if that helps.

Cheers!
Hi any idea how to change the bobbin tension in this brother model Im really struggling with how to work it out...
I like your teaching. Please how do I pass a thread on this kind of machine?
Watch this video on how to thread the sewing machine. ruclips.net/video/i4wL18OG8NA/видео.html
Thank you very much for this excellent video.

Thank you very much for this video
You are welcome.
Thanks a lot you made my day blessing to you xx
Thanks for sharing blessings.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for 😁
You are welcome.
AlaskaGranny can you tell me what the 0 means on it and Need help with the top two dials on the to.
Stitch Length Dial: Depending on the selected stitch, you may need to
adjust the stitch length for best results.
The numbers marked on the stitch length dial represent
the stitch length in millimeters (mm) (1/25 inch).
THE HIGHER THE NUMBER, THE LONGER THE
STITCH. With the “0” setting, material is not fed. This is
used when sewing a button.
The “F” range is for making a satin stitch (close zigzag
stitch), which is used for making buttonholes and
decorative stitches. The position needed for making the
satin stitch varies according to the material and thread
being used. To determine the exact dial position, first
test the stitch and length settings on a scrap piece of
fabric to observe the feeding of the material.🪡
u are awesome god bless u and your family thank u so much

Glad you found my video helpful.
Check with your instructor.
this is awesome video. can you please do a video of twin needle tutorial.
I have never used twin needles in my sewing.
What type of presser foot are u using in this video
How do I drop the needle? I can’t figure it out. And how do you back stitch?
What about the ones on top. For regular stitches what do they go on
Is this machine good with stretchy fabric if using a stretch needle?
Yes.
i usually use straight stitch. and my stitch is not clean. i usually do cotton. can u please tell me the setting that i should use for stitch width dial and upper tension control dial.
MrNaina11 i
Some times iam sewing normally and the nachine hust stoo moving , the thread gather 7p under the material.
Check that the machine is threaded correctly. Sometimes I take out the thread and the bobbin and rethread the machine and that helps.
Merci infiniment
Sorry, I don't speak French. I hope you found my video helpful.
thanks so much for this video! very helpful!
Glad to help.
Hallelujah! But what about the 2 dials on top of the machine? I was given a. Brother sewing machine without instructions so I'm trying to figure everything out. 🙈😩
Did you see my video on how to use the Brother sewing machine? Maybe that will be more help for you. Here is a link. ruclips.net/video/Q9IwYjmi5e8/видео.html
@@AlaskaGranny I also tried to find out what the top two dials does but the other video that you suggested did also not have anything referring to those two top dials.
Hey can any one point me in the direction of how to do the bobbing thanks in advance
Here is a link to a video I made on how to wind the bobbin. ruclips.net/video/5fdr3DZscHo/видео.html
Awsome, thank you
Glad my video was helpful.
Thanku. Alaska Granny, how to use those dials above the sewing machine brother xl2600i but blue color. Thanku
You are welcome. Enjoy your sewing machine. I have a few other videos about the Brother sewing machine, maybe you will find those helpful, too.
Which stitch is good for edging using the machine in this video?
Do you mean for edging the inside seams, like a serger would? I suppose a zigzag would work. Or trim the edges with pinking shears.
Professor Pincushion, here on RUclips, has several great tutorials on sewing. Here's one on finishing seams with or without using fancy feet: ruclips.net/video/cfYI2cT7Qwg/видео.html Hope you find it helpful! Cheers!
@@AlaskaGranny thank you, I figured it out.. took forever
Thank you so much 😊
You're welcome 😊
Good luck!
thank you for all the info
You are welcome. You can see more about the Brother Sewing Machine at my website. www.alaskagranny.com/simple-sewing/
Thank you for sharing!!!
You are welcome.
Did you see some of my other videos on how to use the machine? Maybe something is useful there. Here is a link to my website. www.alaskagranny.com/simple-sewing/

I am not sure if you still have a question about the sewing machine. Have you figured it out, or do you still have a question? I would be happy to try to help you figure it out, if I can.
I think I figured it out, thank you.
