As a western PA bow hunter, “yinz” are spot on when it comes to hunting pressure and the increase of crossbow hunters, makes a nice buck all the more of a trophy
This was an excellent podcast, you guys asked all the right question's! I grew up in western PA, so I understand about hunting pressure in the state. Where I've lived the past 20 years, I have over 18,000 acres of public land to hunt. and this state has ALOT more. Not sure why this state (KY) always gets looked over or hardly ever talked about. I've been out during rifle season and never seen another vehicle within 1 mile of where I park. The disadvantage of this is the terrain and the remote location of where I hunt. I hunt by myself, so dragging a deer out 1 mile from the truck is not a fun experience. With that being said, I would NEVER trade it for a private land hunt. I've done that before and found myself to be totally miserable. I don't want to be bound by a neighbors property line. I want to grab my gear and go wherever I choose. The reason I hunt by myself is that most people here want to throw out a bait pile and pretend they are a hunting. I can't comprehend the mindset. I want to earn my deer. I've taken 2 bucks the past 12 years, 1 spike and 1 small mature 6 point. They are trophy's to me. I put alot of work in to kill those deer. I'm 38 and not ashamed to say what I thought about locating deer, may of been wrong. This is why I'm gravitating to guys like Eberhart and Dan Infalt. I want to put a mature buck on the wall off public land every year for the next 12 years.
Never really had much interest in hunting public land but I still found this podcast interesting. I guess I would fall into the category of targeting the biggest buck on my farm but not really wanting to go somewhere else for a bigger deer. My farm is in amish country so the bucks don't typically get very old too often.
I progressed backwards to traditional equipment so more qualify as "trophy ". With a point standard and shorter 15 yard range. That's how you get that satisfaction you seek
Just now getting to know your podcast and have really enjoyed it so far. I have gained some new hunting perspective’s from a couple of your episodes, which has helped my encounters with more mature bucks over the course of this season! You have some great guests, and I can’t wait for the next episode.
I agree with John on how you earn a nice buck in michigan. I have shot several big bucks on state land in michigan and you earn those deer. There is nothing better than beating the other people that hunt those bucks on state land. I always refer to it as "I hunt the people not the deer." It makes it a lot simpler this way when I hunt state land. I do not want to be were everybody else is located.
I love both aspects of hunting public vs managing private and the different approaches required. I wish he would have thrown in a hunting story or two from his hunts this year but still great stuff.
@@HUNTRPOD Can I send you my mailing info ? Lol so did John kill 3 bucks this year? I know he recently just posted ah video of ah buck he killed this year but it kinda sounds like he has more to come im assuming?
Im going granulare with this but JOHN DUDE unless you have scentlok infused rubber boots that rubber is still going to have an odor to a whitetail old or new...so I dont understand how John can say he is 100% scentlok.
I’m going to buy John’s scent locker suit 1) out of respect and 2) just so I can leave a review of how it’s an awesome suit but it should’ve been in a better patter lol can’t believe they don’t give a guy the pattern he wants for a signature suit I get the price jump though makes it hard for people to get on board. Great podcast once again my goal for my channel is to get on this podcast one day lol.
I had that dang stand creeking cost me ah decent PA buck when I was 17 . . bachelor group came right under me. 3 bucks, the nicest one ah 115-120 inch 9 point ... I had my bow in my hand and went to squat up out of the seat and got about 5 inches up off that seat and it went creek creek. So there I was stuck in the squat position with ah decent buck 10 yards directly in front of me looking up at me. He kinda hopped off and got out to 30 yards and then just walked off and I never saw him again..
I love John he’s a beast, but I do carry my climber all and it’s only 15 pounds and a all day shit in that thing is like sitting in my recliner in my living room , foot rest all kicked back. I feel the safest. I absolutely love my climber.
I started with a crossbow the switched to compound and I think compound is much easier to work with, might not be quite point and shoot but it’s just so much easier to load and move with and I find it easier to shoot and much more enjoyable to practice.. I’d never shoot a crossbow over 30 yards at a deer and I don’t think you should with either in most cases.. I think the “you can shoot them at 75-100 yards is so overblown..
Hunting public land is more like hunting hunters. Their access to their hunt stand. Then you have to scout the deer you're hunting. It's like playing chest. Pretty much when you find buck sign, you'll find a stand there. That's when knowing their access can help you place a stand elsewhere where transition areas might be ignored. Buck sign is like a magnet. It draws the in experience hunter.
I haven’t missed a single podcast this year. I relate heavily to you guys’ passion for this stuff and how you ain’t afraid to “stir the pot”. Keep up the great work. Thanks for the opportunity at the cell cam.
@@kodered276 oh no, someone has a Eberhart fetish. HAHAHA.. Your opinion of my opinion is irrelevant and i shoot wtf ever i wanna shoot. Also you spelled "Code" wrong. Probably John himself on a burner troll account. 🤣#Triggered
Well that escalated quickly lol at the end of the day if it’s legal, go for it. But we can see the debate over both. In fact, I was bitching to Jared about someone shooting a 118yards with a compound at an animal the other day…that is unethical to me
I don't go through the lengths Jon does for scent control because I can't realistically. I would have to be a complete loner. It really sucks when you are in a camp where no one cares about it and others completely compromise you. Still, I haven't had deer full on blow at me in years. I have had them get nervous and walk circles trying to figure out where I was but that was about it. I killed zero pressured mature buck's before Scentlok and now I have 3 under my belt. The wind swirls, why not try to gain every advantage you can?
@@HUNTRPOD that and the fact that he has whole separate room dedicated to scent control. Trust me, I like to be scent free but damn I don't have that much time!!
Patrick, I haven't posted the scent control RUclips videos yet (posted some peripheral stuff) on scent control and am still trying to figure out exactly how to do as it will take several shows.
I’m using a crossbow this year and I’ve shot it everyday for last 2 weeks, and this guy would see me and judge me for using a crossbow I’ve never killed one with a crossbow, I’ve killed dozens of deer with bow instinctively I’ve never used sights on a bow, last year I heart shot a buck just sighting down arrow I’ve done that for over 17 years now and I’m ready use crossbow, but I agree crossbow hunting does have the weekend warriors in full court press

Great podcast... Now my heads exploding haha. I do agree with him on most things... I've used scentlok for years and just started using the BE1 series (awesome camos) and it definitely works. I've had many mature does and 2.5-3 yr olds circle downwind of me and not catch my scent... That said... I still try to position myself the best I can according to wind direction. @@HUNTRPOD Haven't watched this episode yet but I'm a Scent-Lok guy, too. Scent-Lok was my main disagreement with Jeff Sturgis. This past season I killed my biggest buck ever. A 173 3/8" 12 pt that came straight at me from 150 yds directly downwind the entire way.
Going back and re-listening to some older episodes. Man, I'm always so torn as to where to set my goals. I think my thought is at this point, my goal is just going to be to kill the biggest deer I have access to every year.
One of the best sources of hunting info around! When people say they are to big or to old to hunt out if saddle I always tell them about guys like John!
I learned so much from John throughout the years. He's absolutely right it is hard to kill mature deer in public in Michigan but I have been blessed to fill both my tags on mature bucks year after year it's definitely not easy I may sit 20 different spots that I prepped in early spring before I come across a good buck but that's what I love the challenge time spent scouting and having it come together is amazing my second buck I shot this year during gun season I ended up still hunting big woods along Manistee river northern Michigan I bet I walked 6 miles that morning not seeing a single deer and I about gave up but decided to walk this little cedar pocket along the river as I was walking to it I found scrapes rubs all over the outside of it and one point I stopped and I could smell a buck weirdest thing ever haha I took one step 9 point I shot jumped up and ran toward this steep hill going to hardwoods I pulled my gun up managed to drop him when I ran up to him I lost I cried called the wife she was crying lol just so much time and walking scouting 365 it's crazy but every deer I kill means alot that's for sure. First buck was a big 8 I have one tree I've sat in for 8 years only during Nov 1 to the 12 that small spot near a dried up lake is just on fire I see multiple bucks all day long there and it's hard to find spot like that what's crazy it's 100 yards off of a 2 track. Love your podcasts guys sure you know I comment on every one lol
Man what awesome experiences. You sir are doing it right and finding success! Keep that lake spot quiet, it sounds like a gem. Thanks for listening to this one!

Great podcast guys, trying to keep learning on each one. He has a good knowledge of saddles which is interesting because I'm in the same boat as you guys with the mobility interest. I hate regular safety harnesses and didn't know enough about saddles that I made a hybrid on for hang on stands out out of a rock climbing harness that fits the bill and is way less clunky than a standard harness
I really related to what he said about not wanting it easy.. Almost all hunters today want things to be easy.. Guns, crossbows, bait, etc... I strongly prefer for things not to be easy.. Let's face it, killing a big mature buck is already easy enough, but getting them to 5+ years old is the hard part.
Good stuff. Hunting is a good thing and shouldn’t be a competition amongst hunters. My buddy’s son who hunts nothing but public in Ohio, has killed quite a few nice deer. His buddies were harassing him for shooting 125-140” deer. They all hunt private land with bait piles n crossbows yet they don’t have half the skills of this kid. It’s kinda sad
John’s the man. He and Dan both have opened my eyes to a lot of stuff. His dogmatic thinking rubs some folks the wrong way. Doesn’t bother me. I agree with him on the tv guys thing for the most part. But, if he or anybody thinks Will Primos couldn’t get it done on public land they are out of their damn mind. Oh! John, thanks a for turning me onto rivers west rain gear. Stuff is awesome.
Agree Will Primos is a man of the woods. In fact I have him on my target list as a guest. We have a tough time finding “southern” hunters that stand out?!
Thanks and I appreciate it. I'm 70 and don't likely have a lot of years left to bow hunt, so I don't care who I rub the wrong way. There are a ton of phenomenal bow hunters out there and I can tell within 3 minutes of conversation who is full of BS and who isn't. I can also tell by listening to a podcast for a few minutes, who is hunting manicured properties with zero competition and who is hunting in a heavily pressured area because their detail and how they hunt is a dead giveaway.
@@johneberhart4062 don’t be such a pessimist John. You’re 70. You’ve got a good 20 more years of teaching me stuff. My Grandaddy hunted well into his 90’s albeit on a somewhat decreasing scale. I already know it. You seem to want to argue with people already on your team.
I respect his opinions he's clearly been successful but I really think John underestimates not only the work involved but the enjoyment and satisfaction of the whole land management side of things. But he nailed it on crossbows
I’m with you. I think some people never get the chance at land ownership and management so they cling to what they do have. I know I’d never let the land part of it go! - Jeremy
We all have opinions, and I get the crossbow guys feeling picked on. But honestly what about the vertical bow guys who practice all year to be ready for the season only to be in the woods with guys still having the price tag on the crossbow
Enjoyed the episode fellas. When I was a kid there were no trail cameras to take deer inventory. Those monster old bucks back in the day died of natural causes. I have 5 gallon buckets full of screw in steps...lol Crazy how times have changed but interested with all the new technology the basic of how to sit ambushed up in a tree are overlooked by new/younger hunters. You'd learn more of Johns good stuff if you had purchased his DVDs back in the day. The new saddles are way better today than what was available 15 years ago. Having steps around the tree is a MUST. I followed Johns Scent Lok from back in the day but was unable to have success. I'm open minded and will have to try to establish a system again.
Man I know! I feel like I’ve become a worse hunter since then. Part of it is time is not on my side, but I miss those days of finding sign and screwing in steps! May have to dip back into that soon
@@danielolfier6335 You need to email the Iowa DNR a photocopy of your hunter safety certificate. Then buy a preference point for the next 4 or 5 years. Then apply for a license. You'll probably draw a tag In 2026 or 2027. That's a bow tag, of course. If you're a gun hunter you might draw sooner.
Here we go! Here in Manitoba crossbow is only permitted during the Muzzleloader Season. Also... your right I'm wrong there are people who hunt public over private for the challenge haha
Keep bringing up the crossbow deal with every guest. Unless you are not physically capable of drawing a bow, crossbows have zero place in archery season. I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts with John, he’s a very proud person lol. Always learn something though. I think him lumping all “tv hunters” into one category is unfair though. Sure some of them would have zero success without the outfitted hunts but a lot of them…Winke and MWW guys when they were in tv and now, Waddell, Cody Robbins, the Lindsey’s to name a few are some hunting fools. They do some outfitted hunts and have success but they also setup their own places and successfully manage and harvest big deer. Tv is just what pays the bills for them and I don’t hold that against them. Some of them are some quacks though lol. The Lindsey’s would be some great guests by the way. Thanks guys
I agree with you Ben on the lumping together of all the TV kill entertainers as some of them (I don't know who they are) I would assume hunt properties with competition and of course the ones out west that spot and stalk for Elk and Muley's are another topic altogether.
My brother has hunted for a lot of years and I got him into saddle hunting and ScentLok (he pays zero attention to wind as well) many years ago, but he never took a book buck with a bow during the many years he hunted with a compound. He has taken some good bucks off public with a gun and one good one with a crossbow (he has to use a crossbow) though.
I really wish you guys would have left the crossbow hating portion out of your show. Especially since it is helping keep people interested in hunting and conservation. I can't imagine how much time he spent away from his family going out of state to hunt.
I give him a lot of credibility , but hard for me to wrap my head around not hunting the wind as well. Never been winded is a stretch for me. Trying to keep an open mind but that theory is a stretch for me too.
We were the same, but he’s doing something right. That scent control document is multi multi pages…so if you can be as methodical as him I think you succeed
1. Michigan hunters over pressure/over hunt, over harvest their own properties and public land so badly they have a low quality deer herd with zero age structure. 2. Michgan breeds the best hunters.... Hmmmmmm that doest add up sounds like 99% of michgan hunters dont know the foundation of land stewardship. How are you gonna take a dump on someone who gives back and enhances the habitat on the land they hunt to make it more productive while you are only a taker of the resource?
You are so wrong, Michigan is a 2 buck state and has more licensed bowhunters (that can each kill 2 bucks) than any other state. That is a solid statistic and it wasn't me that made the comment about Michigan hunters being more successful when out of state, it was Chad Sylvester from Exodus Outdoors and he resides in Ohio. Michigan with all it's pressure has a ton of deer so hunters aren't killing off the herd. In fact, Deer & Deer Hunting mentioned Michigan as the best state to go to to kill a deer and that is very true if you just want to kill a deer. There are many other states like W. Va., Va., Ma., N.Y., Pa., and NH. that get pounded as well. The stats are the stats and they are all in every one of the 3 books my son Chris and I wrote.
I think hunters in Michigan who shoot big bucks consistently on state land are some of the best hunters in America. It is very difficult to get one because of the pressure and the lousy deer management. The deer just don’t get to proper age. It’s also hard to hunt because of the makeup of the state. The northern half is all pine forests and hardwoods with less than ideal food for big bucks, the southern half is mainly agriculture with very limited public land but bigger bucks when you can have access to kill one. If you own a big chunk of land in southern Michigan, you hit the lottery for big bucks. If you hunt public in the southern part of the state exclusively, it gets pounded all season. It’s a very have/have not scenario in Michigan.
I would assume it wouldn't be hard to find success in another state if your own state was garbage. Illinois has 2 buck tags, so do a ton of other states doesnt sound like most Michigan guys are filling both or any of their buck tags either way. I dont have a dog in the fight im from OH. Every single property in the area has hunters and we still manage to have good mature animals every year
@@thetrooper1061 I've hunted Ohio and it isn't even close concerning having opportunities at mature bucks. Ohio is a one buck state with better ground concerning minerals in the soil (Michigan is mostly sand) and while Ohio has a lot of hunters, they are spread out throughout the entire state whereas Michigan and several other eastern states have more concentrated pressure due to the makeup of the state and where the major population centers are located. If you ever want to see the dramatic differences in bucks killed, go to the spring Deer & Turkey Expo in Lansing Michigan and then to the one in Columbus Ohio and check out the bucks that are brought in. Same for Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Missouri. I've done seminars in several of those states Expos and the differences are huge. For about 10 seasons I hunted a small private parcel in southern Michigan and I know for an absolute fact that on opening day of bow season there were a minimum of 35 bowhunters in trees on opening morning and the problem is that most of them will shoot any legal antlered buck. It is what it is and while it's a huge struggle to kill a mature buck in Michigan on public or free permission property, I love the challenge.
i think consistently shooting 180,s on managed land is as tough as shooting 140 inch bucks in michigan. very few people do either one. i grew up in illinois and watched it go down the toilet so i am moving to iowa. i want a chance at 180's and i don't care how easy it is
Not even remotely close to being true. Michigan has about 320+ thousand bowhunters and I would wager that less than 1% of them have taken a 140 inch buck with a bow no matter how many years they have been hunting. Some of the more high profile micro managed killers kills a 200 incher nearly every year. With zero competition and raising big bucks like a rancher raises cattle, you will get your opportunities at monsters EVERY SINGLE YEAR. If you took a team of high school football players and put them in as an NFL team and kicked all the other NFL teams out of the NFL, they would get Super Bowl rings every year as they have zero competition.
@@johneberhart4062 I agree John. I'm in western PA and even tho it has gotten alot better sense antler restrictions...I know guys who have bow hunted 30 years and they have killed 1 or 2 bucks around the 135 inch mark, and there very good hunters . If your consistently killing 100 inch deer in pa or Michigan u would have no problem killing 150+ deer in the Midwest

Great feedback from experience Tim!
I love both aspects of hunting public vs managing private and the different approaches required. I wish he would have thrown in a hunting story or two from his hunts this year but still great stuff.
Agree Daniel. We will be nailing him down in person at the ATA show in a few weeks. I’ll make sure I dig that out
Hey Daniel! Congrats you won the Stealth Cam Fusion X. Send you mailing info to us at info@wearehuntr.com and if you want att or Verizon. Congrats!
Sweet! I sent you my information. Merry Christmas!
@@HUNTRPOD Can I send you my mailing info ? Lol so did John kill 3 bucks this year? I know he recently just posted ah video of ah buck he killed this year but it kinda sounds like he has more to come im assuming?
Excellent podcast, John is an insperation.
Thanks Tom! We loved talking with John
Im going granulare with this but JOHN DUDE unless you have scentlok infused rubber boots that rubber is still going to have an odor to a whitetail old or new...so I dont understand how John can say he is 100% scentlok.
Hahaha funny!
You cannot beat a deers nose.
Congratulations on 1 year love you guys
Much appreciated Fred
I had that dang stand creeking cost me ah decent PA buck when I was 17 . . bachelor group came right under me. 3 bucks, the nicest one ah 115-120 inch 9 point ... I had my bow in my hand and went to squat up out of the seat and got about 5 inches up off that seat and it went creek creek. So there I was stuck in the squat position with ah decent buck 10 yards directly in front of me looking up at me. He kinda hopped off and got out to 30 yards and then just walked off and I never saw him again..
Sometimes it’s just 1 chance at them!
Ozone has an odor carbon clothes also have an odor. John how many layers of scent Lok do you wear and How do you cover up your breath
Tree hopper products! They make a great ring of steps.
We will check them out
I love John he’s a beast, but I do carry my climber all and it’s only 15 pounds and a all day shit in that thing is like sitting in my recliner in my living room , foot rest all kicked back. I feel the safest. I absolutely love my climber.
I hear ya on that Garrett! I feel the same about my hang on, HOWEVER, I will give saddle hunting a more dedicated shot this season
@@HUNTRPOD I honestly might to. I just can’t afford one lol and if I get one I’m obviously going to get a double panel and I’m shure there not cheap
I agree completely with the more fun to shoot so you do it more.
So Scentlok did it for Chris bracket they had a fear no evil series
Enjoyed the episode! Listener from Southern Illinois, heard you guys say you hunted in Southern Illinois before.
Yep! This November, tough hunting because of weather
Always look forward to your podcasts!
Thanks Ryan!
It’s crazy right? Ultimately the sign closest to access draws the most attention. I’ve also seen it severely overlooked too
Love Eberhart
Seems to be love him or hate him haha
This was a great one guys best podcast out there!
We appreciate it!
I haven’t missed a single podcast this year. I relate heavily to you guys’ passion for this stuff and how you ain’t afraid to “stir the pot”. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the opportunity at the cell cam.
Thanks for tuning in Matt! It’s been a great first year.
If your not stirring the pot, your just another podcast. It's like reading so many generic hunting articles that regurgitate the same info.
Awesome podcast, dude is a Legend!
Haha we love John what a wealth of knowledge
Keep them comin love listening at work
Thanks Jon!
Legend
The fabric on the outside of the carbon layer suit, does it need treated with no scent spray?
Casey not 100% sure but I’ll get more information for you
Damn, catch you guys next week. I cant listen to this guy for 2hrs.
After seeing some of ur comments on different pages Im pretty sure your opinion is irrelevant
You shoot a crossbow don't you
@@kodered276 oh no, someone has a Eberhart fetish.
In fact, I was bitching to Jared about someone shooting a 118yards with a compound at an animal the other day…that is unethical to me
@@HUNTRPOD ❌ bow hunters are a different breed that's forsure .He probably too fat and lazy to hunt like Eberhart so he wants to hate on him .
I like John. U guys should watch his video on scent control. You would be amazed!!
It’s probably a 6 part mini series 🤣
@@HUNTRPOD that and the fact that he has whole separate room dedicated to scent control. Trust me, I like to be scent free but damn I don't have that much time!!
Patrick, I haven't posted the scent control RUclips videos yet (posted some peripheral stuff) on scent control and am still trying to figure out exactly how to do as it will take several shows.
Yes it was not on your page but it was a walk through of your routine from shower to field and when you would put that powder on all of your apparel.
@@HUNTRPOD It will be tough to design, but will be really good when it comes out, hopefully in the late spring.
I need a shoulder replacement I still won't go to cross gun. Love my compound dreaded the day when it opened to all hunters woods got ruined
My should was rough this year too man, and I didn’t consider it lol
Platform plus one or two extra strap on steps on the sides.
Agree that seems like a great compromise
Love the podcast! Keep it up!
Thanks Trent appreciate the listen man!
i still don't understand anyone saying a crossbowis easier....please tell me the difference.
Crossbow is point and shoot, vertical bow requires form. 6 yr old can shoot a crossbow. Try to have them shoot a vertical bow...
@@HUNTRPOD i've been hunting with a crossbow longer than you have been alive....just because you think it's point and shoot is an insult...practice is practice...plus try carrying a 10 pound block round in the woods.....i'm 66 years old...i started with a stick and still use my compound depending on the hunt...you don't still hunt with a crossbow unless you want your arms to fall off after a day....stand hunting crossbow....still hunting compound....the deer don't get dumber because i'm carrying the crossbow...the longest shot i've ever taked with any kind of bow was 22 yards...and i don't use it because i'm old...it's just another form of hunting...you won't catch me useing a gun either....that's cheating to me.
Good stuff guys!
We will keep em coming Bryan
Can we please have Don Higgins and John on same podcast?? Lol That would be interesting to say the least!!
Hahaha Eberhart is a scrapper! Maybe we can get both of them on at ATA show hahaha
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Bill!
John, what weight is the ESS suit ? Light, medium, heavy ?
I think it’s a mid weight
Thp made it cool to go on public and take a 90 in 2.5 year old buck. 😂😂😂

Great episode guys lol Merry Christmas, and hopefully a full year of podcasts in 2022.
Love it dude!
Did yall just say yall spot lighted a buck to locate him?
Great podcast... Now my heads exploding haha. I do agree with him on most things... I've used scentlok for years and just started using the BE1 series (awesome camos) and it definitely works. I've had many mature does and 2.5-3 yr olds circle downwind of me and not catch my scent... That said... I still try to position myself the best I can according to wind direction. That is a hard pill to swallow to just ignore it completely. But, he's shot a lot bigger bucks than I have so..🖕💨 Looking forward to the next one
Haha I still am not sure about the wind piece!
@@HUNTRPOD I'm 100% positive about the wind piece!
I’ve now seen John’s documents and believe it you do it, you will succeed at forgetting about the wind. Lol I need patience
@@johneberhart4062 John, I've always put mine on 40min high heat in the dryer but I have to admit I neglect the face piece and gloves... I have them but I hate wearing them, guess I need to change that. Where can I get your procedure documents? I know you're probably sick of hearing this so my apologies haha
I think that’s the best plan
One of the best sources of hunting info around! When people say they are to big or to old to hunt out if saddle I always tell them about guys like John!
Dude still climbs a tree like a squirrel
I’m just finding this podcast and man I love it! Is there video where they talk about there own bucks they killed???
Who
I learned so much from John throughout the years.
@@HUNTRPOD just wish it was October again haha. I also use the tethrd phantom saddle. Learned everything about it from johns videos also want your leg straps loose most of your comfort is how high you have the tethrd and bridge the phantom has adjustable bridge which is nice
Also been wearing brown khakis and gray or brown hoodie early season when it gets closer to late October I wear realtree Xtra not scentlok but same camo I been wearing last 8 years bought it at Walmart lol also do the same as John with screw ins when I'm deep on state
Great podcast guys, trying to keep learning on each one.
Like the moon we will give the saddle stuff a ride, not sure if it will stick though haha
@@HUNTRPOD It will definitely stick once you use a good saddle and a ROS. You'll never look at a stand again.
There are def 180" deer in PA. They're just in places hunters dont go.
Bingo
I really related to what he said about not wanting it easy.. Almost all hunters today want things to be easy.. Guns, crossbows, bait, etc... I strongly prefer for things not to be easy.. Let's face it, killing a big mature buck is already easy enough, but getting them to 5+ years old is the hard part.
Interesting point of view there. For sure can’t kill the 5yo if there isn’t one, but you are right, likely better chance than ever to do so
Much respect for John! helped my public hunting tremendously
He was an amazing guest and wealth of knowledge. Just a bad ass hunter
I’d love to come y’all’s high pressured deer I’d even let you come hunt my south Alabama deer on my place 😉😉
Heck man you still have the rut ahead of you lol
But you ain’t got to tell me any of that. I’ve heard you say it before and I’ve read where you’ve written that before. I’m a follower and a fan. U ain’t got to convince me you’re Superman. I already know it. You seem to want to argue with people already on your team.
I respect his opinions he's clearly been successful but I really think John underestimates not only the work involved but the enjoyment and satisfaction of the whole land management side of things. But he nailed it on crossbows
I agree with you awesome guy! diffrent priorities in hunting I guess.
I’m with you. I think some people never get the chance at land ownership and management so they cling to what they do have. I know I’d never let the land part of it go!

Loved the scent control conversation with scent lok, good info in the podcast
Thanks Aaron!
Love the up close and personal as well. No crossbows here.
I have 5 gallon buckets full of screw in steps...lol
Crazy how times have changed but interested with all the new technology the basic of how to sit ambushed up in a tree are overlooked by new/younger hunters.
Being from Michigan I'm excited for this one
It’s a good one Daniel!
Hey if I live in Michigan how can I start putting in for Iowa.
Haha right?! John lives for this shit lol
Lol hell yeah love his enthusiasm about it too it's contagious.
Really good one guys!
Thanks Adam!
I'd love to hear John's brother on here with him. Brotherly love banter if you will. Be safe all.
Haha no doubt. I’m sure that’s a real deer camp
@@johneberhart4062 Thanks for the response John. Hope you and your brother have a wonderful Christmas. Be safe
Like what?....lmao
Is it me or does john numbers seem exaggerated some? Could be wrong.
Hahaha might be! But I won’t argue with him lol
What numbers are you referring to?
I really wish you guys would have left the crossbow hating portion out of your show. Especially since it is helping keep people interested in hunting and conservation. I can't imagine how much time he spent away from his family going out of state to hunt.
I give him a lot of credibility , but hard for me to wrap my head around not hunting the wind as well. Never been winded is a stretch for me. Trying to keep an open mind but that theory is a stretch for me too.
We were the same, but he’s doing something right. That scent control document is multi multi pages…so if you can be as methodical as him I think you succeed
Looks like I’m moving to Iowa! Lol
Haha yea still seems like what we should do
That's the place Zach
Haha I dont know much about Michigan besides you need an engineering degree to understand the doe hunting regulations
2 hrs of the guy stroking his own ego
John is a love him or hate him guy, but his experience and success is something to see. Always up for an opinion
I don't need to stroke my ego, just stating facts which many have issue with.
i think consistently shooting 180,s on managed land is as tough as shooting 140 inch bucks in michigan. very few people do either one. i grew up in illinois and watched it go down the toilet so i am moving to iowa. i want a chance at 180's and i don't care how easy it is
Lol same boat. Maybe at John’s age I want the challenge, right now I want the chance at mega bucks
Guys In Michigan and pa on pressured properties aren't consistently killing 140 inch bucks,... If your consistently killing 100 inch deer in pa or Michigan u would have no problem killing 150+ deer in the Midwest
