    Sweet now we just need subclass videos and race/subrace and how to make custom spells for our classes and races videos then the community will have a perfect guide on how to make mods for BG3 now I just need to get a new gpu to properly run BG3 thank you doctor

    How are you, after 4 years of the game being out, the only one that made a video explaining how to create a mod? Thanks a lot for this. I've been looking like crazy for tutorials but it seems modders are not that interested in making tutorials for others.

    I want to make a "nitwit" class; basically, a class for a character who is like a normal, real-life human with minimal magic/fighting skills. I want to add with it a custom background focused around being a character who was transported from a different world into the world of the game, the implication being their original world is ours. I feel like it could be really interesting as a challenge/for roleplay purposes! I'm super excited to learn how to do this!

    UPDATE: I said not to change the ClassEquipment entry. You must actually change it to EQP_CC_EXAMPLE to match the label in Equipment.txt. This will prevent the game from crashing when selecting your new class.

      @@darkminer2674 No bother. It's what I'm here for. Sounds like an issue with the Equipment.txt file. To make it easier, I would use my software, Polymath, which deals with the most common conflicts that cause crashes (and make creating the foundation of your mod quite a bit easier): www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/6318

    Thank you for this. I wanted to go into mod making for a long time now. And I would love to see how you edit a subclass, as well as harder stuff, like new races, how they function and how they look. Adding new assests and textures, or even new animations. I will be looking out for the next video.

    I would love if you could make a mini tutorial for making custom backgrounds. This was one of the most concise and understandable tutorials for modding I have seen on RUclips. You are a great teacher

    You are an absolute godsend, I've been looking for a tutorial like this since class mods have been coming out. I'd really appreciate a subclass tutorial (I want to make a paladin subclass really badly) and also just more advice on how to go about making more complicated mechanics for your class like resoures (like ki points for example).     hey, great video :)
    would love a tutorial on how to Edit stuff in a vanilla class.
    Example that i would be interested in: how to change Rage damage bonus from a flat bonus to a dice bonus (+2 -> +1d4) and also how to change the rage damage increase progression (upgrading the damage 1 step at level 5 and again at 9).
    Also how to change or add something in a subclass. Example would be the wild heart subclass special abilities from level 3 to improve at level 6.
    improvements
    Tiger bloodlust: damage isn't halved anymore.
    Wolf Howl: allies deal +1d6 additional damage on their next (first) hit.
    Bear unrelenting ferocity: becomes bonus action and heal increased by 1d8.
    Elk primal stampede: damage increased by 3d4.
    Eagle diving strike: range increase to 7.5m (25ft).

    omg plz do one for adding a new weapon to the game! i file base for it would be amazing. most mod files ive unpacked are just changing a existing weapon. the files that have new weapons usually have a bunch of other stuff as well making it hard to grasp without notes in the file. love the video. ur great at explaining in a fun way!

    I love this video and appreciate any more tutorials you put the time in to make. Thanks very much. Question is the executable just for gen'ing the guids and hashes, because I could just using powershell or terminal for either of those, just wondering if there was something else I missed?

      You mean Baldur's Gate 3 Modder's Multitool? It offers some additional functions, which I have admittedly not explored much. If you want things even simpler, I have produced a program that automates the production of most of the foundation of a class or subclass mod. More complex mods will require work building on this video, but the tool will at least reduce the amount of work: www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/6318

      @@ImADoctorNotA Currently, from a dev side of things, some diagnostics tools would be nice. XD
      Can't inject log calls into my random mod for a game I didn't create after all and when ever I do developement I use printing to log to solve all my problems. XD
      That being said, if you happen to know any nice diagnostics tools for BG3 modding, that would be *VERY* nice.

    followed your tutorial to a T, causing game to crash everytime i load into make a new character. went back and tried again a second time, still crashes

      Sorry to hear that. I just produced a new class following the guide and it worked out. Major points that I almost missed as I did this was renaming the “Example” folders to your case sensitive mod name (are you using spaces for this?). Ensuring you have new UUIDs for every field (aside from progression table uuid) and are using the handle checkbox for the description/class name are also important. I would suggest changing a few fields at a time for debugging if that does not help out.

      @@ImADoctorNotA I was having a similar problem, and while I have not fixed I think it might be linked to the equipment list. You mention in the video that we are gonna do something with the equipment list referenced in class descriptions, however I dont think you ended up covering that in the video.

      I purposefully did not cover equipment. I apologize if I was not as clear as I could have been in the video. I don't think it is the equipment list as I found that the game only crashed if the equipment list name did not match to the file in the matching folder only upon clicking on your class in the class creator. My guess is that it is an issue with a UUID, although a reasonable video idea could be debugging mods.

      Can you please explain more on what you mean by making it level up? Do you mean leveling up on immediate access, or simply not having the game crash when the class levels up? Leveling up on immediate game-start can be done by another mod (www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/555). Regarding issues with leveling up (game crashes), you can duplicate the progression node for the main class in that file for each level (giving each node a new UUID). Example code is below, and you place the main class ProgressionTableUUID from ClassDescriptions into the TableUUID field:
      Level 2 MAIN CLASS
      I'll be uploading a short that covers this point soon. Future versions of my mod making automation program, Polymath, will automate this (so you don't even have to think about it).
      As for spells, I recommend checking out the following video of mine: ruclips.net/video/AbW78MUydrA/видео.html, which forms the foundation for adding spells. My next version of Polymath will incorporate a means of adding existing spells to one's created class/subclass mod.

    Is there a way, using your polymath tool, UTAM, or the other beginner mod tools, to change/edit your class' sound effects? Like say "every time class uses ranged weapon play x sound?"

      I wish! At present, editing sounds is extremely complicated (there is no apparent way of adding new sounds and finding sounds to replace is challenging because none of their names are readily interpreted). Hopefully this will be easier with the release of official modding tools in September

      Sorry to hear that. I would review the UUIDs again to ensure they are all unique (except for the relevant ones in the Progressions file). I am also in the process of programming something that will automate much of this (particularly the UUID generation, which has been causing my viewers the most problems).     BG3 modders multi tool is telling me it cleaned the file but " No Mods folder found; unable to find workspace root! Please add one and try again." any idea on any tips? loved the tutorial up till this now im so stumped lol

    Mine didn't work ;(. I have been trying to create a mod for ages and its just not doing what i need it too. Is it because I have windows 11?

      Fortunately, not. I recommend the tool that I made, which I will be updating over the next week or two to also allow making full custom classes versus just subclasses based on existing classes/subclasses: www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/6318. While offering that functionality will be the last "free" update for the program (I will have a free version on Nexus that allows you to add everything that already exists in-game in your own custom class), I will be making a Patreon version that will allow full customization (so making custom action resource points, custom spells/abilities, etc). I still recommend subscribing to my channel because while I will have these "paid" options built into the tool, I will continue releasing videos showing folks how to do what is done in the program

      That sounds like you have two versions of Python installed on your system. I would go to Add/remove programs, uninstall all Python installations, install Python 3.12 from the Microsoft app store, install the packages as I recommended, then try again. Let me know if that helps, passing along the error log again if it acts up once more

      @@Eth3realVoiD When you say that nothing new is appearing, do you mean it did not show up in character creation? I have noted an issue with BG3 MM is that for something to work, you have to drag it into the inactive column first, then the active, then export and launch. If that does not work, try completely deleting the mod from BG3 MM, then repeat the installation here. If that does not work, try remaking your mod once or just creating a new mod, installing it as above to see if there is an issue loading mods in general. If that still does not work, you can email the mod files to my mod channel email and I can take a look at them.

      You will need those handles for the localization file (the XML file you edit that you process with LSLib to produce the *.LOCA file).

    So I texted this by dropping the zip in my mod list in Vortex, and everything went fine till I wanted to start the game to test it. I got to the loading screen before you make your character, and when the loading screen was at 100% the entire thing just crashed. It's now redownloading the game? I am not sure where it went so wrong

      I admittedly have less experience making it all work with Vortex (I use BG3 mod manager, and you upload the PAK file directly there). Did you try to drop the ZIP file for what I have uploaded on Nexus? That file is, unfortunately, incomplete (I based much of my work on the Template Class, so I did not want to upload work that was purely that of the other author, hence my directions in the video to use their Template file as a foundation for the work).
      If it is crashing at that point, that suggests to me that the issue is probably with the UUIDs (so ensure that you have unique UUIDs where appropriate).
      I made a full class (and subclass, spells) for my next video, mostly from scratch, so I will upload a functional mod this time that should work through Vortex. I would subscribe and tune in in around 4-6 days. If there is anything I can do for you before then (through these comments), let me know and I'll do what I can for you.

      @@ImADoctorNotA Doing things a second time around with your no cuts videos, it seems to work now. My current issue is with starting equipment, it takes the weapons I add to the Equipment .txt, but when I add clothing the character ends up naked in character creation. Any idea why that is? I know I have the right item codes too

      @@tortoxiciontheawesome2565 Sadly, I'm not sure there. Does your character have the items in their inventory? I will boost the priority of showing how to edit starting equipment in my video list (placing it as the next or second to next BG3 video).

    No matter what I do, following this guide to a T... the game always instantly crashes the moment I load into character creation. The error messages, no logs, nothing. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong and I've even tried restarting the guide over

      That sounds like an issue with duplicate UUIDs, which are enough to do that. I see you already found Polymath, which helps resolve that.

    Hi there! I've been having issues with this for a bit now. Despite doing every step 100% correctly, the game crashes after ive selected the new game button and the difficulty, but before i get to the customisr character screen. any suggestions?

      Sounds like an issue with the UUIDs. I would recommend downloading a fresh copy of the Template mod, then go and replace all the UUIDs and handles as I describe in the video to see if it still works. If it does, move onto producing a fresh Loca file. If that works, you should be confident enough to move forward. While I was throwing around the idea of a video just showing me going through the code edits (without the cuts), you (and others watching the video) can let me know if this is something that would be valuable. If there is enough interest, I could put it together (making a new class as I demonstrated takes me 5-10 minutes)

      I recommend checking out this tool that I made to streamline things. Should offer an easier foundation. From what you are describing, there are likely duplicate UUIDs or handles somewhere.

      @@nobodyhere9849 Yeah, an EXE file produces a single false positive using VirusTotal (like just about any modding software) that a user misinterpreted. Hence, the program is coded in Python and can be launched using the Polymath.bat file in the main directory. You have to install Python and a few packages, which you can learn how to do here: ruclips.net/video/eOlJmZaCCuU/видео.html.
      You can also find where I describe this via text on the mod page, searching for the string: To run this program, you need to have installed Python through the Microsoft Store (while you can install it from the developer's website, some users have issues running the program with that version.
      It won't work if you use Python from the Python website, only the Windows App Store version, for some reason.

    I followed every direction. When I added my class pak to the BG3MM the file shows up as example. When I go into the game to select my class, it is not there. Can you help me?

      Thank you for your patience. My weekends often still involve work (I have an important paper for my career at present), balanced with family time. If it shows up as "Example" in the BG3MM, it sounds like you need to edit the Meta.lsx file. If it's not showing up in-game, that is probably due to an issue with producing the LOCA file. I would verify that you produced unique Handle IDs (ensuring you had the handle box checked off) for the description and class name fields in the ClassDescription file and that these matched up in the XML file, then producing a localization file as I showed. Re-verifying you made unique UUIDs does not hurt as well. Let me know how it goes.

      @ImADoctorNotA I ran into the issue of the game crashing when I selected a new game. I have deleted the equipment line, and that didn't work. I even edited the equipment line to give my character wizard starting equipment, and that crashed, too.

      @@MelricMagus Sounds like a UUID issue, or perhaps mismatches between the mod name.     Hi, sorry to bother you, i loved the video, but i'm having some issues that are probably external. I made my own mod and i downloaded your flowerborn aswell, but every time i select the class on character creation the game crashes (for both my mod and yours). I have modfixer installed only, did i forgot to install something? (I'm using the bg3 mod manager). Thank you in advance

      Did you change the "equipment" line in the ClassDescription? I found that to be a cause of crashes in the way you are describing. It should be a change that alters a property involved in presenting the character, such as equipment. I also have ModFixer installed, so I think that part is okay.

I simply had to delete the equipment line because just copying it and pasting it under class description made it crash, but now without it, it doesn't. However, the character is in his underwear. Maybe it only works under the subclass stuff? I don't know

      @@Peto_IL_DUCA03 If you compare what you had on the line for the Equipment in CharacterDescription to the line you have in the Equipment.txt file, are they different? I found that if I changed the "CC_EXAMPLE" that was in the example file from Gycicada, it would crash as you described

      @@ImADoctorNotA i had first the line that was default in the class template (magus something i belive) and it would crash. Then i downloaded your file and i notice you put example so i did the same and it crashed aswell.

      Sadly, such code is not readily organized as the root game files do not organize spells like that. I will be producing a table that tentatively organizes such information in the coming 7-14 days. The release that I will put out in a few days will have code that will enable you to give a Sorcerer spell list selection screen will be available soon.     I'm not sure if you'd be able to help but when trying to convert the xml file to loca it's giving me an error and will not convert the file. I rewatched the video and went through the process of remaking the flowerboy class step by step just to make sure it wasn't a mistake I made while making a class mod that I'm working on, and it still will not convert. If you ran into this issue yourself or have any insight into why it won't convert I would really, really appreciate the help. I already tried to search online forums, and see if anyone else has ran into this issue but couldn't find anything myself. Major thanks in advance!

      Did you remove the top lines in the XML file that had text from Gycicada saying to delete them? Did you remove any quotes from the paths you were attempting to input?

      @@ImADoctorNotA I did remove the top lines from the top of the xml file and after double checking I didn't delete any quotations. When trying to convert it, this is the error it gives me: "system.formatexception: Input string was not in a correct format. At system.number.stringtonumber(string str, numberstyles options, NumberBuffer& number, numberformation info, boolean parseDecimal)
      at system.number.parseUint32(string value, numberstyles options, numberformatinfo numfmt)... ect"
      it just carries on with errors like that while using the LSLib toolkit to convert the xml file. So i'm just really confused

      I did also watch your second video and changed/cleaned up the equipment portions of the mod and double checked the xml file and compared it to yours for the sake of testing. It's verbatim what you have for yours and it still gives me the same error.@@ImADoctorNotA

      ​@@DanteTheDamned If you are having general issues with the mod working after producing the PAK file, my gut reaction is that there could be places where there are duplicate UUIDs or handles, or possible syntax issues. In that case, I would recommend downloading the following mod and dragging the PAK file into the Modder's Multitool, referring to the unpacked files in the Modders Multitool folder in the Unpacked Files folder. It is fairly comprehensive, in that it changes most pieces of the class. It is available here (www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/3644). If the issue is still the XML file, producing the localization file is solely dependent on what is in the XML file or in the input/output fields for LSLib (along with ensuring the game is set to BG3 in LSLib), so the issue is probably text being someplace it shouldn't be (which could be those header lines, or perhaps handles or your class name placed outside of the >< areas). If you let me know exactly what is going on (like still cannot produce the LOCA file), I can better direct my guidance.

      I did finally figure out the issue, and it was a problem with where I placed the UUID's. I put them in the wrong quotations and it was what caused all of the errors lol, silly mistake on my end but it did finally produce the loca file @@ImADoctorNotA

    I must say, that while this video helps get a custom class immediate off the ground and into your game, it doesn't offer the full information. You threw a lot of terms and definitions at the end of it, without showing us how to implement them in the file. You tell the viewer to read the description, and follow its instructions, but you do not show the viewer how to carry out those instructions. The pacing of the video felt rushed, the talking was too fast as I had to go back several times to make sure I got all the information, it was not explains why we needed the things the viewer was instructed to download. I could go on and on, but this was not what I was looking for. I was expecting an in-depth tutorial on how to create a character class for Baldur's Gate 3, including how to add/remove how many starting spells the class has, how to alter at what level the class gives feats, alteration of class actions, base starting gear, starting attributes, everything else that goes into and makes up a D&D class. This is not that. I got stove-top a fried cheese stick where I was expecting the kind you make by hand-made and have to bake in the over for an hour.

I did not put a "Mods" folder into the Nexus mod I uploaded (the template mod creator did not grant others permission to reupload their content), only placing my contributions.
