- ALPE D'HUEZ, the most ICONIC climb of the Alps! In this race we had to go up twice, once from the backside up col de Madeleine and once on the official 21-hairpins climb.
The Haute Route Alps is recognized as the Toughest multi day Amateur race in the World. I prepared as good as I could to race this 730km and 18.000m over 7 stages.

Hats off to you, Jasper, for being able to film and comment on the go. I attempted something similar (coincidentally in the same area last year) and it was quite difficult. 😅 Anyway, you planted a seed in my head. This race could be quite a challenge. It's tough, but it takes place in one of the most beautiful parts of the Alps.

great video! in 2022 I had my first taste of Alpe D'Huez - for the Marmotte and Etape...at the end of both long rides in very hot conditions I had to stop several times on the way up, so i'm also hoping to get there fresh one day to ride it 'properly'.

To prevent dropping chain A) clutch on rear derailleur, B) And better quality chainrings.I do recommend Rotor, they are 11-12 speed gears and extremely precise, (milled from single piece of aluminum) I never dropped chain in since I installed Rotor Cranset (one year now)

Another great video Jasper. But have to just comment on the Haute Route organisers. I’ve done 3 HR including Alps in 2022. On this they neutralised just about every descent (many of which were perfectly safe) bar the two most dangerous descents of the entire week, one of which was the drop off the Sarenne. My abiding memory is passing another HR rider laid out at the side of the road who’d stacked it on here. It beggars belief that the organisers didn’t learn from this.

I agree with everyone else, great content showcasing the landscape and narration of each day's approach and challenges. Also a quick comment on limiting the fibrous carbs due to water retention. Complex carbs are the ones that hold more water. Concerning higher fiber carbs and the research on why some Pro's are opting to reduce them during multi-day events, is there's evidence it interrupts gastric emptying which in turn inhibits rates of glycogen restoration. It appears the lower the fiber, the quicker and more efficient muscle and liver glycogen gets replenished. But I would say additional research needs to be done. Within the body there is tight regulation of fluid balance and there are additional factors that influence it. Sodium, muscle damage, hormones, external temps also play huge roles in fluid retention/elimination. It's not just one factor or dietary practice.
Yup. Last year I got home 2 kilos heavier than I started due the muscle inflammation and retention
