@@dylananderson1061 Gematria is honestly easier to me than multiple other songs that they’ve played live a good few times. it’s more consistently paced and difficult than most the rest, but shit like the Heretic Anthem takes more endurance and AOV is more complicated, along with some others

A lot of snobby players will diss new bands/players who play this kind of stuff for being generic or not original enough nowadays but I never get tired of this stuff. If it's good it's good. Simple as that.
Everyone has their own taste. I personally don't like it when bands change their sounds to fit in with the modern times. It takes away from what I fell in love with
@@way2sh0rt07grad I think there’s a fine line. Some bands can update their sound without changing the core of what they are while others will just abandon their sound to chase modernity in an effort to stay relevant *cough In Flames *cough.
I feel the same way.
I believe that bands tend to naturally evolve their sound, is not always about being more marketable, metallica passed trough this a number of times, people dissing them for doing the music they like just because some people can't wrap their heads around the fact that some artists don't want to do the same thing over and over

Death Magnetic was the album that made 11 year old me fall in love with metal

@@cocoworldwideoriginal998 Pretty much same here. While not horrible songs by any means, it just sounded very generic and uninspired to me. I lost any hope I had for Metallica when I heard the album.
Of course it's gonna be hard to top the old albums, but the band wasn't/isn't the same at all anymore. I thought Slayer did better than any of the Big 4 in the more modern decades before they quit, they still retained a bit of their original vibe until the end.

It was definitely a good return to form after st anger and just given their age. Some death magnetic riffs are absolutely nasty. But cyanide, can't stand that song.

I started really getting into metal in 2009 so Scream, Aim, Fire, Death Magnetic and All Hope Is Gone were fairly new releases at the time. I can't believe it's been 14 years those albums came out and 13 years since I used to just sit in my bedroom listening to Slipknot etc before eventually picking up the guitar in 2011.
My Apocalypse is so underrated , great job as always!

What!? this is a lot of my current playing style. they call that “at the gates core” or something, right? I’ve never listened to at the gates, but apparently they inspired a lot of the sorta second iteration of drop tuning/ hardcore inspired metal?? That nice drop D percussive chuggin’ meets harmonic stuff and tremolo. To me this still is metal, but I kind of am a relic of the past. I don’t know how to djent, but I would much prefer to black dahlia murder anyways 😜
Man I actually tooootally agree haha. I love a lot of the modern stuff that drops, especially with the level of production and whatnot but I always find myself going back to this “older” stuff
@@JacobMartin the production is very beautiful and interesting these days for sure. I’m just more partial to what I grew up on metal wise. However I’m starting to get into more and more artists as I peruse RUclipss guitar/ metal world. You’re very good at writing that stuff btw I dug it a lot
Its funny you mention drop, since At the Gates have played exclusively in B standard since they formed. If you wanna look into them, Id recommend starting with the slaughter of the soul album, then terminal spirit disease.
If you wanna see more of that Gothenburg scene, try old In Flames and old Dark Tranquillity. Id say ATG were most influential to this style though, even if In Flames are my personal favorite.
