This was a fun little experiment, and it gave me an excuse to play some music with my bro so it’s a win all round 🥰 Which riff was your favourite? 👇👇👇
Riff 4 OMG!! PLEASE make a entire song with thissssss
Riff 4 definitely my favorite as well! 🔥 as always!
Riff 2 👊😎🎸
PS: All of them were BRUTAL.
Alllllll
riff 3
there's something oddly entertaining about hearing electric guitar but with the real string noises too, it's not good from a musical standpoint, but it's weirdly satisfying
I’m the same way. It’s confirmation that his skill set is legit and THAT is satisfying lol
Fuck ywah it's very nic
If you think hearing the strings is satisfying, you should hear my guitar hero guitar
It's the rhythm. So satisfying!
Oddly? It's awesome hearing all the little finger squeaks and the tiny noises the strings make.
It's what makes distorted electric guitars so cool imo
You’re such a killer guitarist dude.
I appreciate that man :)
Yes! Absolutely wonderful stuff! Very proggy. Any albums you play on? Any in the making?
He inspired me to quit guitar
@@VadikRamm a 9 year old asian girl did me in. I feel your pain. I hate RUclips sometimes.
Fuckin right dude
1:23 that riff was just so disgusting. I loved it
If you like that you'd love the band Vein
@@unr3quited 💖💖💖
@@unr3quited thanks a fucking lot buddy ❤️Checked them out a while ago and came here to thank you
@@unr3quited give me a song by then
Sounds like any other metal riff lmao
Both you guys play clean af. I don't know what's more impressive, the skill playing or the mixing. All of it sounded great 🤘🏻
Thanks heaps man!
It's definitely the mixing, that sh!t was even more impressive than the outstanding playing!
As a drummer, Id love to hear more music written this way.
Edit: Ok, so apperantly everyone and there mother writes the drums 1st.
Can I plug my own stuff? Because I tend to write the drums and bass first.
@@JesterOfDestiny same 🙌🏿
A lot of electronic music does this 😎
Same
@@JesterOfDestiny heck yeah!
An EP based off of these riffs would be killer \m/
Putting an ep together is definitely on the cards :)
@@JacobMartin I just stumbled across this channel minutes ago and I have no idea who you are, but I would buy an EP of these tracks in a heartbeat!
@@CatchReleaseRepeat Ahaha yess. Appreciate that man 🤘
@@JacobMartin also brand new to your channel and I wanna hear all these become full songs. I was already inventing a riff in my head for continuing the 4th one.
CORRECT. Hell of a job brother!!
Verified. Based.
Thanks dude! 🤘
Can we just stop to appreciate the production of the sound itself? The bass is so heavy!
I think every band should take turns writing songs based around ideas from all of the instruments jammed solo. Even writing around a vocal idea is cool. I try to write melodies on other instruments like piano, xylophone, etc.
This is exactly what YES did back in '71 with their "Fragile" album, they had 4 songs written by the band together and 5 songs written by individual members of the band with their own instrument (or voice) as the focal point of the arrangement scattered between the songs written by the band as a whole. Makes for nice albums with lots of variation.
@@Kraz3e987 Yes was such a cool band. Their bassist, in particular, blows my mind.
I enjoy the album Clear from Periphery for this reason. Very cool to hear their own individual styles stand out so much in the album.
Thrice’s drummer had once mentioned them doing this since they recorded Vheissu, masterpiece of an album
The Spanish band Mago De Oz also does this. No wonder their music have very cool and strange sounds
We all knew these were gonna be MONSTER riffs before even hearing them - was not disappointed!! 👊👊
Thanks Jack! 🤘🤘
I’m a solo instrumentalist and this is how I write 90% of my songs…. Going drums first forces you to be more creative
WOW The 2:32 drop is INSANE Like a wall of sound punching your face
I Watched it 1000 times
The agility and precision is just beyond godly. God I have a long ass way to go before I can master that skillset😩
Your guitar tone in this video sounds massive! Plus: the beats are killer! I really enjoyed this format and would love to see it again in some future!
The tone.... For sure...I almost bought the gojira plug-in instantly hahaha
Hahaha thanks so much guys. So stoked you’re still watching the vids after all this time
Reminds me of Hypocrisy.
@@JacobMartin What is the stack to get that sound?
As a drummer before a guitarist, I LOVE how your brother plays the drums. He has similar feel as i do, this was awesome!!!!
Bro you are fucking killling it. Riff 4 blew me away. Inspired me to pickup the axe again. Subscribed for sure.
That’s awesome to hear! Thanks dude
Everything sounds epic in this, but the bass and bass drums really drive thru the mix amazingly
Holy sheet. The second one NEEDs to be made into an actual song!
This was the most unexpected and offensively good "Try not to headbang" challenge I have come across. I failed miserably. You and your bro are stellar.
Stay Rad!
Dude how sick! Im beyond inpressed with the level of musicianship you boys got some skills. Nice licks for sure
That's how I write most of all my stuff lol. Just put on a drum groove and noodle around till something comes out. Is a great technique! Just wish I would play as half as good as you dude. Well done!
Ah you’re too kind man! Yeah It’s definitely a good way to get some ideas out
Oh man...this is so beautiful, haven't heard such a great riffs in a long time 👏🏻
Thanks dude!
The second one is gnarly! Especially the pinch harmonic
Writing drums first is awesome cause you can create a more solid and groovy riff with more percussion variations.
This is the most intriguing music related video I've seen in quite a while. Fuckin well done!
Really glad you enjoyed it man! 🙏
I get much Periphery vibes from how you come up with those riffs!
Killer playing dude, you have amazing picking technique and great riffin creativity!
i hear periphery and then like a smidge of slipknot gets thrown in there at times
Hell yeah I thought the exact same!
Periphery style chords, with August Burns Red grooves. I'm down with this sound tbh
You guys just listed some of my favourite bands haha, thanks for the kind words 🙏🤘
@@JacobMartin Thanks for the sick tunes!
The 1st and the 4th ones are just fabulous
The 3rd riff with the ghost notes! CRAZY! Great precision too!
Nothing like some skatepunk drums to start off a metal song
We want more content like this! Killer shit man!
I’m glad you enjoyed! More content on the way :)
Both of y’all are beasts!!!
You do realise that we need official full releases of all of those now, right?
Dude, your brother is as good off a drummer as you are a guitarist! Excellent job to both of you!
Man!
That was epic!
You play the guitar enthusiastically!
So much energy.....
I’m in my happy place when I play 😊
The tone you use for the bass when you record the riff really has that August Burns Red thing going on. Great playing man, lots of creativity in those riffs!
A song with any one of these riffs would get immediately added to my playlist. The talent is off the scale!
Thanks so much man 🙏
Awesome composition skills on those riffs, and those Chuggernauts, man what a delight... But most importantly; cat at the end of the video XD
Yeah gotta give Doug (our cat) some camera time as well! Also, Chuggernauts 😂
Brother is over here just low key doing an Angel Vivaldi... 😳
You're a hell of a guitarist.
That second one is SO fucking sick. I mean y’all are damn good musicians but that might be my fav
Every so often RUclips actually recommends really good channels. This is one of those times the algorithm got it right
❤️
You're getting a subscribe just for this and ESPECIALLY pinning the tunings and such.
I really appreciate the sub!
I love the way you attack each phrase. The old man who yells at clouds inside me would prefer if you made things less intricate and more groovy, but I reeeaaallllyyy enjoyed this vid.
Appreciate the criticism, but also the compliment mate! 🤘 I do get carried away on the riffage sometimes, can’t help it hahaha
@@JacobMartin You're great, mate! I can't stress that enough. I totally understand about the need for riffage!!!
3:12 that pinch absolutely SENT ME
the first riff had some killswitch engaged vibes
As a solo artist i start with whatever instrument i have the idea for first. I might have a drum beat in my head i record that first. Sometimes i get an idea for a bass line so i start with that. Same with guitar. Just depends on how you want to work with it. Most of the time it works out well.
In my experience ideas coming first on strings (synth included) flows better than starting with drums or vocals
That was incredible. You absolutely have to make more of these.
As a drummer and guitarist letting the drummer lay down some solid grooves and riffs first is sweet, who knows better accents combinations and rhythyms in general than the drummer
All of this riffs were incredible. Fantastic work man
Actually, that was insane!! Very cool riffs! You are unstoppable!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks dude! 🤘
This is actually a great way to come up with stuff you wouldn't normally play. The same goes to writing using Guitar Pro ONLY. No guitar sitting on your lap, just writing.
Muscle memory can fuck you up a lot when trying to come up with great riffs.
Awesome exercise, cheers
This guy is absolutely insane- and deserves way more subs than 20K. Instantly subscribing !
What a combo. You guys killed it
This has got to be one of my fave videos by you! Get to see all your creativity here, it's rad as hell
I was kinda nervous posting this video haha, so I really appreciate it man!
This was so awesome! More of this please!
First time seeing one of his videos and I don't know why I love his picking style so much. It's so violent and jerky and perfect and I can't get enough of it.
I have been always writing riffs like that lol. But that's mostly because I had no sense of rhythm when I started playing guitar, and drum backing helped me a lot in riff writing process.
Dude, your riff chops are MONSTROUS, I greatly enjoyed all four of them!
Wow thanks man!
3rd and 4th sequences fucking caught me off guard on how lethal you were planning on takin the riffs and, did.
Perfect execution, brobeans 🤘🏽
I really dig this man I love this format
damn dude, i totally saw something like what you wrote for that first and second beat as something i would write given those same beats, but the riffing for the 3rd beat is something i would never been able to even invision with a beat like that, your writing is really creative, what a great musician!
Dude thanks so much!
👌👌👌
love these riffs, absolute bangers, my favorite is the 1 and 4, and really apreciate the practice/playthrough. Hope we see more of this, I'm a fan of your channel🥰
Thanks man that means a lot! I’m working on part 2 as we speak
These are some of the coolest riffs I've ever heard. My god my ears are thanking me so much right now.
Riff 2 and 4 was the spot.
I actually do quite a lot of writting through this method. Having a canvas to write to is a good way to come up with something different that what you would usually write.
I wash I could write this level of riff goodness though haha, excellent job dude :)
Jesus Christ your right hand moves faster than my eyes can register what you’re doing.
This is one of the best music based videos I’ve seen in a while.
Good shit from you and your bro 🤘
It moves faster than 30 fps can capture, lol
Love your chord choices. So inspiring and moving. I'm glad you put in bass as well.
This is killer- your bro is a beat beast!
Ive had riff 2 stuck in my head for a couple days now,
you should definitely make some of these into a full song or something!
They way you‘re comming up with this stuff + watching you play is just completely out of this world, keep it up!
Thanks so much man!
Sick video. Great job showing the noodling around on the guitars digging for the idea instead of just what you ended up going with. It's great to see the work in the kitchen, rather than just enjoy the meal.
Man you're so talented, it's amazing the ability that you have to create some really good riffs and licks.
Awesome approach, I have tried it and it works really nice when one feels stuck on using the same kind of riffs. It also helps to get out of our comfort zone and experiment with other rhythmic possibilities. I used this approach on my upcoming album and it worked wonders. Thanks for sharing, you are an incredible player...I subscribed. Greetings from Puerto Rico!
Yeah man for sure! Thank you for the kind words as well
I know nothing about guitars, but whatever you did to make your guitar have that sound, is epic. The tone is amazing. Great job!
That was really enjoyable to watch.
Like in every art form, I'm seeing that when good musicians intentionally f up their process of writing music, they unlock more creativity and come up with cooler/more unique stuff.
This is same for designers, artists, etc. I see designers with decades long experience intentionally challenge their creative process which results in more unique work.
Totally love this approach. I would be so down to hear a full album like this.
Im very amazed with your downstroke man..every riffs are MONSTER !!!🔥🔥
Just had this recommended to me on my homepage, well worth the click. That is some sexy ass rhythm work my friend. Very nice 😁
Man your picking is incredible 👌 insane !
Fantastically brilliant! Thank you for sharing this with the world.
Liked before hearing any riff - cause I know they're all gonna be total bangers!
Haha thanks man, I appreciate your confidence in me!
HOLY SHIT, that first riff was so freaking good!
Thanks Christoffer, glad you liked it man!
Dude - you guys are both KILLIN' it!
These riffs are scrumptious bro I'm hella impressed - subbed!
Dude you've been killing it. Seems like that channel is growing. Stoked for you.
Sick riffage as always🤘
Great video guys !!! It's really cool to hear the creation process of the riffs ! Well done !
Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed 🤘
These are some amazing riffs!
Now that was bloody awesome discovering your channel for the first time!
Dude your playing is absolutely ridiculous. Nice writing techniques. Extremely impressive keep going!
I appreciate the kind words Wayne!
I'd love to hear full songs with these riffs! Amazing!
Damn, that was a fun watch!!! Great stuff!!
Puts hats on, becomes metalcore
Damn the second run thru of the second beat, the riff starts at about 3:16 and ends at the two down chugs at 3:20. That dissonant thing before the slide down into the down chugs. SO KILLER. Wish I could figure it out.
I second this notion!
I just found your channel, but your guitar playing just inspired me so much man. There is so much boring metal out there and this is straight up the opposite. I needed to hear this.
Also fun fact, I specifically only write riffs to drums that are laid out first!
The last riff was one of the best riffs I've ever seen in my life. You are great guitarist man. 🤘
Thank you man, really appreciate it
That was EPIC. You are both tremendously talented. Bravo!
1:45-2:10 I loved the dissonance into Jazx chords. Something I've strived to do and Jinjer actually succeeded at. I'd love to hear more of that, hell I'd love to create more of that but I struggle with getting the dissonance to come through.
Drum beat 1 from your brother is definitely the most fun one to listen that he did. Riff 2 from you though was just filthy. Killer man!
Really appreciate it man!
The SPEED and precision, oh my lord. Divine guitarist.
That tone is SICK. LOVE it.
