I really respect your answer/comments about the "mean RUclipsrs" question. It shows your maturity to not judge a person based on a very brief interaction and the limited knowledge you have of them and their life and experiences. We all experience life differently and I'm so glad you express that to your audience because we can really be very quick to judge others sometimes. Thank you Kelly!

I think you need to make up your own mind in what "cruelty" you are willing to tolerate. When you really think about it no cosmetic will ever be truly and 100% cruelty free. It's not just animal testing, or selling on China, it's also about sourcing materials, ethical warehouses, ethics behind brands... it's such a wide topic that it can easily give you a headache just to think about it, and if you start researching it you can fall down several rabbit holes! So my advice is not to listen to anyone, but just really think what's most important to you and follow that route 🤗

I have a story that is funnier because I am 66 now and young people don't even talk about sex in front of me because they think we never did it. My second serious boyfriend, when we broke up, said to me at the doorway as he was leaving, "You know you could have said no to having sex sometimes." I was shocked. What was he talking about? I was a virgin when I met him and unlike many of my friends at the time I enjoyed having sex with him. We were 17-18 and I didn't really know what I should or shouldn't be doing, I only knew that I liked what we were doing. If I hadn't wanted to, I assume I would have said so, he wasn't aggressive in any way. For years afterwards I thought I was some kind of nympho (do people even use that word anymore?) But as time went on I discovered I was not. It's funny how that one comment affected me. He didn't explain his comment at the time, he was actually half way out the door when he said it, and I have never run into him again to ask him. It will have to remain one of life's great mysteries.

I had one tell me about his 5 kids with different women. He said there’s a 6th one but “I don’t think it’s mine.” He said “she’s trying to pin it on me.” Then he said he’d take me to a movie after dinner (no thanks!) but he could only afford the dollar theater, which was a ways away from where we were. Dude didn’t read the signals either and legit tried to kiss me as I was getting in my car. His breath nearly knocked me over as I turned so he kissed my cheek.
I had a guy dump me once because he said it had become an obligation to talk to me. So rude!

I learned several years ago that guys are horrible at picking up on hints. I used to be subtle when turning down a guy asking me out. However, one guy was just not getting the hint. I tried ghosting him, but he was still pestering me. I had to block his number. I told some of my friends at work about it. One guy said "Guys are too stupid to get hints." The thing people need to understand is that Not Testing on Animals IS NOT THE SAME as being Cruelty Free. You might not test on animals (which is a whole different rabbit's hole on its own because EVERYTHING has been tested on animals at some point), but if you use carmine is that not cruelty? If you source mica from sources that are wrecking the environment, is that not cruelty?? If you use warehouses that grossly underpay their employees, is that not cruelty???

I've been researching this topic this since 2014 and I agree with you 100%. It used to be that a company wasn't truly cruelty free if their parent company wasn't, now I'm seeing Nyx claim this status after having been bought out by L'Oreal? I just have a hard time believing the validity of this label now. These days my bigger concerns in cosmetics lay with human rights like you brought up here, and that definitely made me pump the brakes on buying e.l.f. and wet'n'wild. When you look at the fact that so many of their products are made overseas and super cheap, you have to stop and wonder at what cost? Are the factory workers being paid fairly? Are ingredients being gathered and processed by children? I really think some things will surface in that aspect in the next few years and some of these so-called cruelty free companies won't be considered so ethical.

For me, where I currently am: even if brands like physicians formula, wet n wild, or (especially) first aid beauty truly don’t get tested on animals… the trust is still broken. Especially First Aid Beauty bc they kept advertising that they were CF this whole time. So… the trust is still broken, those brands didn’t admit they were selling until they got caught, so this doesn’t change a lot for me.

Like, take those cheesy halmark movies. Everyone complained this year because the women break up with 'perfectly good boyfriends who are just working a lot' to move to a new town and find someone new... like yeah. If at any point in your relationship the person you're with isn't on the same path as you and you have conflicting visions of the future, you're allowed to break up. You need someone right for you, not just someone whose a good person. I think these things should be talked about more so people on all sides of the gender/attraction spectrum can look for healthy relationships that will last.

@@v.besson6808 will do for sure. thank you for bringing this to my attention. I should also clarify: I didn't mean that all cosmetics in EU are cruelty free. There are definite loopholes that shady businesses are taking advantage of. But I have an easier time feeling comfortable of a brand labelled as CF in Europe, South Korea, etc. by leaping bunny or even PETA (although their system is a bit too lax for my liking) vs a CF brand in China or my home country (Vietnam). But yes, I will check EU animal testing in cosmetics because I read the legislation when it was first published and it sounded very thorough. It's a shame if that was all just words with no backing.

This video has helped me see that I have some definite confusion that I need to clear up in the realm of cruelty free makeup and skincare. The only way I know to address my own ignorance is to ask questions and start reading in reputable publications or watching videos by reputable people. I could use a hand if anyone has some ideas to offer here. :-
I am writing from the perspective of being in my 50s and having started buying makeup in the 1980s. I have always seen claims of being cruelty free as sort of like products in other categories calling themselves natural, something that had no serious and narrowly defined legal meaning but that was supposed to drive sales on an emotional level. For that reason, I have never used it as a metric when buying makeup. Over the past five years or so, I have noticed products saying that they are both cruelty free and vegan. Starting in the 90s, I tried several vegan cosmetics and skincare products, only to find that they were of poor texture, very sticky, smelled freaky, and broke out my face painfully. So now I have these two understandings completely twisted up in my head and have a knee-jerk reaction when I see a product labeled cruelty free and vegan.
Obviously, I am missing some important information and hope someone here can help me sort out some questions I have. I understand that products have changed, but I don’t have a lot of money to do experimentation from a lot of different brands. I would be grateful if someone could point me to good information or give me their experiences in dealing with some of this stuff. Does cruelty free cosmetics automatically mean vegan cosmetics as well? If so, have there been improvements in the quality of the formulas? Do any of you have suggestions for skincare products for very dry, eczema prone skin? I think I would feel more comfortable dipping my toe in by getting a lipstick, lip balm, or moisturizer to see what some of the new products might be like. I am open to changing my buying habits in this area as long as I won’t end up looking like I have diaper rash on my face for at least a week after putting something on it. :-)
Thank you for any ideas you have to share. I promise I won’t just read them. I will put them into action and see if an old dog can learn new tricks. :-)

Instead of talking about your decisions/stance on the cruelty free subject… could you do a video summarizing or discussing the things the cruelty free community is talking abt currently and things that have changed for consumers, or things/topics that consumers are disagreeing abt, or brands/companies are experiencing controversy concerning -and/or- the info that has come available, testing standards/reqs. that have changed, and other aspects that have shaken up the framework of the discourse surrounding cruelty free cosmetics, in general? Almost like an intro to the background of assessing cruelty free brands today and how that was different in the past, what questions Ppl are having to navigate? What questions are you tossing around in your head? And also, why/what are the discrepancies between cruelty free kitty and the other cruelty free status evaluators, orgs/co.’s, & other assessment groups, etc… and what are the dividing lines Ppl are disagreeing about? It could be a 1st part perhaps, to the video you do once you’ve become more secure in your preferences, choices/decisions, and boundaries regarding beauty & cosmetics brands as well as what what cruelty free means today’s world/society.
What do you think the industry could improve to better meet the typical/general wants & desires of at least the majority of ppl whom are animal rights/cruelty free sympathizers, advocates & activists? What do you think have been the biggest wins and successes for those demanding more animal friendly development and production etc. of cosmetics and beauty products?
Lastly, what 1 thing (or 2) would you change abt the cosmetics industry, how realistic do U think it is and how long do you think it will take?

Fun to hear your always kind answers! I am always looking for a broadway show buddy 😊. Surprisingly enough, I never wanted to drive (growing up here in NYC, you don’t ever have to as you know) and then had to for a job up in westchester and I never looked back. Walking will always be my first love but I can’t imagine life without a car, even in NYC.

As far as your 2nd piercing. Had mine done in 1973 and NEVER use it but all I have to do is take a hot shower and put an earring in right after and the hole is open. Try that before you re-pierce.

I have a juicy question: do you reckon some RUclipsrs are just hoarders? I’m seeing people with very small channels (the kind that doesn’t get a lot of good PR products) and a gigantic makeup collection. I’m talking about very high end makeup. If someone swatches the entire Charlotte Tilbury lipstick collection, I often stop and wonder who needs so many lipsticks, and if this is an escape mechanism.

Let's be honest people from the Midwest have no concept of weather. It can be 16°f and you'll see people in shorts and a tank top or it can be 85°f and you'll see people in winter coats. My dad was wearing shorts when it was negative -20 in Indiana and mind you we live walking distance from lake Michigan so it's even colder and my dad was wearing shorts and no jacket. Just a shirt. Not even long sleeves. Short sleeves.

I've never had a cat, but my Shiba Inu has her place at the end of the sofa and pillow and she doesn't like anyone to sit there. I can identify with your anxiety in driving. I live in Los Angeles, so unfortunately, I have no choice but to drive all the time. On my last car, I put 180,000 miles on it. Public transportation here just doesn't work well. BTW, that blush and eyeshadow looks so pretty on you.

kelly what is the deal with cruelty free kitty I'd never heard of these till a content provider I have been subscribed to for a long time reviewed the nars Christmas release a person left a passive aggressive comment stating nars are not cruelty free and went on saying about cruelty free kitty and the fact it was better to buy products from there so I went and looked what they were talking about and you needed to down load a list on that it explained the obvious basically and there were items from cruelty free brands I've never heard of and had never seen any content provider mention or review I just blocked the whole thing it was really weird xx

Hi Kelly! Since you mentioned Sarah's video, I wanted to point out her analysis was lacking, manly due to 3 points:
    1. The scepticism Sarah voices about the NGOs and Leapping Bunny, in particular, does not extend to the "independent" bloggers. This is not understandable, especially given the worrisome lack of proper sources and criteria that some of those bloggers use.
    2. The European Union and China have completely different democratic standards. In Europe, we have transparency and accountability, while China is a dictatorship that controls information. The government officials will say whatever benefits the ruling party, and everybody else is coerced to agree and/or pretend that it's true.
    3. As a follow-up to the second point, Leaping Bunny doesn't need to patrol the EU because there is already an extensive oversight of its own, along with entities that continue fighting for animals' rights. For example, after the release of the scientific report in 2021 (about animal testing in the EU), there was an initiative that reached more than a million signatures and with that, the European Commission is obliged to consider the proposals made.
With all of that said, I want to thank you for taking your time to do proper research. Take care!

I have almost a half sleeve that I got simply because it was a cool drawing and my artist was doing it for half priced 🤣😂 what's worse is I literally hate the guy now because he cheated on my friend and I have 2 pieces from him. The one on my chest needs either a re work or cover up because it's terrible
