As soon as he slammed the door I knew this was not going to be the best review. 1. You don't slam the door on a car like that, 2 The transmission needs an upgrade. 3. That is a 2.5 4CYL with 203 horsepower one of the best and biggest 4cyl engines made. it's not going to be quiet when you floor it, especially with VVT. I hope you grow to like it. It's a pretty good car.

Your slamming the door too hard...have one my self, the door is LONGER than the 2017 and 2014 so you're slamming it like a maniac mate.
The car isn't slow to respond...just in the US y'all don't know how to control the throttle properly to keep the car in gear. I see everyone complaining about it and I'm like...I have no issues. Be more precise.
You bought a 4cyl...stop complaining. It's quieter than my '17 and '14. Test drive the car before you buy man.
I get 35mpg average and I live in suburbs. Same 4cyl...again it's about being a better driver...USA has the worst drivers hence bad gas mileage.
And again you bought a cheaper car...it's a 20k car, so you get what you pay for. If you want better spend 39k on the top trim.

On your complaint about the slow reaction to throttle inputs, you're on ECO mode which purposefully reduces responsiveness. Turn it off in the settings and you'll see that slightly improve. But even then, the transmission is still a bit finicky but that's a minor gripe.

Most all Japanese made vehicles I've encountered have cheap, hollow sounding doors when you shut them. I've always hated that. They rarely sound or feel robustly built. 4cyl engines sound buzzy. Some worse than others. It's the nature of the engine type. The glitter in the piano black finish is there to help disguise dust that accumulates like crazy on piano black finish. I agree, it makes for a kind of weird, cheap looking finish though. I hate piano black plastic with a passion. Scratches if you stare at it too hard it's so fragile.

Brad- some good points. I can’t stand the sardine can doors and that speckled moon dust black plastic on the dashboard. One thing I noticed about the transmission was that if I floored it from a start, the engine starts reving a lot, but is slow to accelerate, whereas if I put the accelerator 1/2 way down, the car accelerates faster. Recently, the dealer replaced the fuel pump, which has resulted in a smoother idle as well as the engine being more responsive in traffic. I’m wondering if the 8sp transmission was the patsy when the transmission was just responding to an engine starving for fuel. It drives really nice now.

You either just dont know anything about cars or you downgraded from mommys hi end Tesla and now not happy with a 30k price tag car? If not please review a car of your choice in the same price tag and show us how its different? I drive 48 miles to and back from work, I haven’t noticed any of this beside the fact that Toyota Entune sucks! But I love my 2018 XSE! You get a lot for 34k! Push start, keyless door lock/unlock, rear view camera with sensors all around the car that automatically brake if you don’t!(this saved me yesterday while backing out of Taco Bell! I thought I hit someone since the car stopped and beeped, but I looked at the screen in front of the steering wheel, it was red and said “brake” the car literately brakes on its own to stop me from reversing into the asshole tryna speed pass me in a parking lot) lane assist with automatic guidance, leather interior, wind chill pearl gloss that stands out, and I average around 32-35 a gallon depending how I drive! I’m the highway typically on sport mode and around the streets I drive it on eco! I’d recommend this car in XSE if you want top of the line which is affordable! If not then go get an Audi or Beamer! But don’t get the LE and complain about features you miss out for not getting Atleast the SE!

From what you are describing the shifting delay sounds like a result of the drive by wire system functioning as it does on pretty much any Toyota built in the last 10+ years. If so it's not an issue of the trans doing weird things it's an issue of it being an inherent Toyota thing. It's a lot easier to ignore in their models with larger engines. I've learned to accelerate smoothly rather than abruptly with my v8 and avoid the lag that accompanies a down shift don't know how useful that is to someone with a 4cyl tho.

The Toyota Hybrid transaxle does not ‘shift’. Some models have a program to make it feel like it is ‘shifting’ in sport mode, but mostly it runs in eco mode, which is continuously / infinitely variable. The ‘shift’ sensation is the petrol engine transition when it switches on. This is known as hybrid ‘slur’. The best way of overcoming it is to always use premium fuel and put injector cleaner in at every fill. Also, always use the correct grade of oil. This works for me. I get very smooth transitions, which is what I love about the Camry Hybrid. Expecting it to 'shift' is contrary to how it was designed.

I gently shut my doors and closes fine..I thought something was making noise in engine but its normal sound almost like a diesel sound lol 😆..but not too loud just louder than I thought it'd be. I bought mine at 24k miles it now has 31k..transmission is good now Jerry no chunky nothing shifts smoothly, door closes very very easy..why slam it.. eventually you will have to slam it hard to get it to close if you keep slamming the doors..they shirt so easily so good..my biggest issues with this car is acceleration is very slow to respond like a delay..I'm thinking of commander throttle but not sure if good idea??

  • @jaysarchive7325

    I have a 2021 Camry. Who else has a 2018+?
    1. I’ve never, ever, closed my door that hard, ever lol. 😂 The door on mine is feather light and takes almost no power to close. If you’re hearing that noise you’re closing it way too hard. It’s not like a truck.
    2. Yes it’s a known fact the transmission takes a while to break into. One time I was going about 20 mph or some slow speed and the car was literally jerking back and forth for a second or maybe two. It happens at low speeds when i’m not accelerating consistently (example: i accelerate to 15mpg, stop accelerating, then accelerate harder). so far i have three witnesses who have experienced it with me while in my car lol. However, it is a an extremelyyy smooth transmission when going at a consistent speed and I loveeee it!!! a friend drove my car he said the same thing.
    3. I think the level of noise is normal for four cylinders when accelerating hard, 90% of the time I don’t accelerate that hard anyway.
    4. mpg depends how much time you spend idling at low speeds, how you drive, and what mpg you’re paying attention to. it’s very easy to exceed the estimated mpg in the 2018+ camry. my tank average is always 35-37 mpg. What i love most about my car is how efficient it is. i get way more than the estimated mpg. there are three mpg you have pay attention to: trip mpg, mpg since last manually reset, and tank mpg.
btw, I kinda like the dash sparkles it looks cool lol.
    thanks for making this video!
