I'm still waiting on the explosion that says she is great and not just good. I get no excitement from her playing.

She reminds me of my favourite soccer team ( in terms of consistency). There are some recordings of her live where she is top-notch and leaves me howling and dancing with ecstasy ( particularly when she goes all Sonny Rollins). Still, I feel the same about Dewey Redman, Joe Lovano, Chris Potter and other players who , while possessing astonishing technique , can have off-nights. I remember seeing Mike Brecker twice in intervening years ,once in a 'state of grace' and the other just sounding lost. I guess the only tenor that personally ticked my boxes ( which, I know , is a subjective thing) was Joe Henderson.
Composition is not everybody's thing. Sometimes ( like my resistance to Sonny Rollins when ,as a young player, I seemed to like everybody else until I finally 'got' him) it just takes time.
At least, like the Wayne Shorters and Jan Garbareks of this world, she's exploring.
I wonder how repeated listening will change my views.
