    Deep Space Nine rarely gets the credit it deserves for telling a layered, nuanced political story in the space opera format. It was character-driven, carefully plotted, and probably the best overall written Star Trek. It deserved a movie. It deserves a movie.

      +Gary Dorgan I agree that it was lacking in the exploration which died but wasn't really noticed because it was so weak from the start. however in the grand scheme of things trek it is a pivotal point in which much of the politics etc of the trek verse got a really big fleshing out I'd wager without it videos like this wouldn't be worth the effort making as the back story would be so weak behind the main races

      I enjoyed DS9 very much. It was a welcome change of pace from all the space ship based Treks. But it had time enough to tell its story to the very end, and did. Any revisiting now would be anticlimactic and would also damage sales of the post TV series novels.
      In fact, any new 24th century based shows would be set in a no win universe, where androids, holograms, and other devices are being declared sentient and demanding equality, if not superiority over biological beings. Add to that the fact that the Borg have assimilated much of the galaxy and will continue until all beings are either Borg or destroyed. It makes any stories set during that era futile at best.
      The timeline does need a reboot. But JJ Trek and Discovery are not the way to do it. But that's the way the owner's of the franchise have chosen, in addition to shutting down any fan efforts that show the right way, leading to Trek's death as both a cult phenomenon and a cultural icon.
      The ONLY path now is for creative fans to create a new shared universe devoid of Trek trappings, but guided by Trek philosophies.

    • @markdavidson1049
      @markdavidson1049 7 лет назад +7

      Gary, that is a very narrow-minded view. Considering all the various races and corresponding issues, Star Trek can't ONLY be about "trekking and exploration". There are far too many races/factions out there with their own agenda for it to ONLY be about trekking and exploration. DS9 shown light and detail that many Trek fans craved for whether it was more detailed politics, larger combat scenes and combat info, intricacies of various intel agencies like the Obsidian Order to more details about the histories of Klingon houses or the Romulan-Federation relationship. Contrary to what you think, had DS9 never existed, it would've done Star Trek lore a DIS-service.

    • @Zuriki09
      @Zuriki09 7 лет назад +1

      There is little hope of a shared fan timeline, the nearest equivalent would be the C0DA of The Elder Scrolls. The result of which is an official timeline which is directionless and homogenized and a fan-timeline which likes to declare itself as cannon but is both directionless and also utterly asinine taking - if you know TES, it's a game series set in a medieval fantasy, well C0DA currently has space-faring elves living on a mechanical planet.
      C0DA is a warning that no cobbled together fannon will ever be well structured enough to functionally replace the official cannon(s) and no matter how bad the official cannon appears to be, it's several steps better than an overall fannon.
      The best you could hope for is a singular fannon architect to gain some sort of cult following, but it is unlikely to ever gain any real traction.

    • @jonaswille4485
      @jonaswille4485 3 года назад

      Kinda Agree with the nemesis part but not because of the story line, more because of how they did it..
      The Stoy is actually very fitting, Romulan old guard military Commanders disagreeing with the new pro Federation sentiments in the senate fearing the romulan star empire to loose its place among the super powers trying to overthrow the goverment?
      Sounds as romulan as it gets
      And the destruction of Romolus is giving us a nice possibility to have a view in the Romulan culture, more then just seing a warbird commander but actually learning about how they think, rituals and stuff and if you continue with the very interesting but unfortunatly non Canaon books you get a super interesting story line, where the newly formed Romulan Republic supported and recognized by the federation and its allies is struggling in a fight for power agains the old self proclaimed empress Sela witch is stillt having major influence duo to most romuland not trusting an Republic (wich is kinda semi democratic) leading to the brink of a civil war (and I think it continues, just didnt read the next book, know back on the list)
      Just realized I wrote all of that to an 4 year old comment, lol

We have seen it many time that Romulan have some of the best scientist and engineers as they often surprise the Federation with devious technologies. I read one theory that Romulus was the actual original homeworld of the Vulcans/Romulans; 1) Romulus looks more hospitable compared to the desert-like world of Vulcan. 2) You have one side that is more pacifist while the other is more war-like. Which side is more likely to have been able to force the other off a planet?

    • @tonywhite9873
      @tonywhite9873 7 лет назад

      I read a book on the History of Vulcan, Vulcan started out has a jungle like planet with a more richer oxygen. Then there was a major accident their moon, it blew up, some of it fell to Vulcan. Most lifeforms died out fast, some died slowly. Vulcans live by had to adapt to their new home. A desert-like world, Vulcans became fearful of the outsider, the unknown. They weren't the pacifist they later become, they were more war-like than the Romulans who learned to control themselve.

Especially, having the southern ice cap appears to be feeding that Southern sea. It's similar to the subsurface melt sea under the Southern pole of Saturn's moon Enceladus. Do you by any chance have a place on the web where I could see a larger version of the drawing? I have always wondered what the ecology of Vulcan would be like. I remember a novel written back in the 80's or 90's. I can not recall the author, or the title, but it described early Vulcan's prior to a star flair that did terrible damage in a burn over. It may have been "STRANGERS FROM THE SKY",
    and I think it was written by the same author. I hope you do more such video's. Great work, and best of luck in your future endeavours. Please, contact me by email if you do.

    Since it would appear that Romulus was more hospitable than Vulcan, it would make sense for the Romulans to have lost some of the physical strength of their Vulcan cousins. It would make sense that the Romulans would still be stronger than humans, but generations on Romulus would no longer have had to survive on such a harsh planet. It's been mentioned that Romulans have evolved enough that they were no longer physiologically identical to Vulcans. I'd just like to see their physical strength strength addressed since they've emphasized that Vulcans are 3 times stronger and faster than humans, and Klingons are stronger and have more endurance than humans. It would be interesting to know how the Romulans stack up.

      D.M.S. I don't know that there was enough information onscreen. In one episode, Weyoun says The Dominion has been around for 2,000 years; in another, he says 10,000. The female changeling says that they're timeless, so, it can't be established when they came into existence. In "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River", Weyoun tells the story of the Vorta, but, I don't think he says when (correct me if I'm wrong).

      David L. There was that one incorrect graphic in the episode "Divergence", where _Enterprise_ and _Columbia_ had "USS" in front of them. A possible explanation is that the U.E. Starfleet considered adding USS to distinguish the Warp 5 ships from everything else.

    Ok, maybe with the new Picard series to come, I have to accept the Hobos Nova as canon. But all I am reading is "...after the desolve of the romulan empire...". Sure there would have been a time of internal turmoil and isolation where the romulans are trying to rebuild and find a new homeworld. Maybe away from their former borders, deeper into the beta-Quadrant. But after that, they will be back again in at least old strenght. Its called STAR-Empire for a reason, so they will have plenty of worlds to choose off. But no - the will become a thrid class race... klingon servants and starfleet officers. And this makes me sad.
    I can't believe the writers decided that the Romulans just ignored the fact that the Hobos Star was destableising and didn't do nothing. This is just stupid nobody would do this! If earth would have been destroyed it would be "We will defend our glorious federation and stand up to our ideals. Anyway it was just a planet, we still live and we will prevail". With any other race: "Our Homeplanet was destroyed, all is lost we will die."
    Thank you, idiotic writing!
    I will miss the Star-Empire. The only interesting villans left.

    I am not sure what to think of this... It DOES explain a lot (I was somewhat confused), but this sort of sounds like a "future that did not happen", though I am sure that humans will meet someone with Romulan characteristics (if we haven't already). And maybe Vulcans, too, but one can only hope not at the same time... (People seem to be one thing or the other [we are logical, but also emotional], but not both at the same time.)

    Succinct very interesting. My inner nerd would question whether Romulans and Klingons had an alliance. If so their common hatred of the Federation would have had significant impacts . More likely their mutual hatred would have kept them away from the federation. They have traded technologies;D7 cruisers, cloaking, Warp etc. But this could occur during conflict, capturing derelict ships for instance. Are there any Canon references to this alliance?

      The apparent distinction between Vulcans and Romulans may be just a natural variation among individuals in both populations. Pronounced brows may just be more prevalent among Romulans than Vulcans. The proof? Before The Next Generation, the Romulans we saw on screen had no brow ridges (the lower ranked centurions wore helmets that obscured their foreheads--maybe they had ridges!). According to the producers, they wanted a different look for Romulans when TNG started. However, even after TNG’s fourth season, there’s the example of Romulan ambassador Nanclus from the movie “The Undiscovered Country” who very clearly had no ridges. Also, Spock was able to travel about in public on Romulus without prosthetics and without attracting any apparent attention (other than from Romulan intelligence).
      So then are there any Vulcans with brow ridges? In TNG “Gambit”, there was the Vulcan revolutionary T’Paal who was acting undercover as a Romulan but there’s nothing in the episode to indicate that her brow ridges weren’t natural. Also, if you look back at the original series episode “Amok Time”, Spock’s wedding party had helmets that, like the Romulan centurions of the same era, covered their foreheads (maybe some were Vulcans with brow ridges!)
