Congratulations on ten years of youtube! Seeing a new Cedric & Ada vid on my feed always cheers me up :)
i've watched lots of "Reviews" of the ARC and yours is the only one where the Arc's blade was actually tested with something other than 1 thin piece of paper Great video keep it up
They are not reviews then.
Table top reviews of tools/knives are a dime a dozen. They talk about fidget factor or how it drops shut. It's like yeah, but how do they perform?
Two reviews from my favorite comedic reviewers in one day?? Must be a good day!
They both think lionsteel m390 is good to go. Which has been proven it is not.
All new tools have same cutter problems, it's more of a factor of when you bought your tool. And I 100% agree the replacement cutters are kind of a clever way to make more money.
The Arc is basically the Wave+ on steroids. The outside one handed accessible tools are a game changer. This Arc is the closest to perfection multitool ever.
Yes looks awesome. I am looking for something a bit smaller and lighter for long range bush carry and every day carry. But definitely looks top quality
I would classify it more as a Free P6. It's the Free platform, but with a revised toolset that includes the popular driver bit holders, eliminated the useless scalloped blade in favor of a terrific file, and upgrades the knife steel to the Magnacut 'super' steel.
@@_WillCAD_ I like the sound of the file. Be pretty good for field knife sharpening. The tool kit also great for using on my rifles / telescopic sights
But won't cut wire😅
@@jimmypennell8831 I do all the time. So far zero problems.
Excellent, I've been looking for a more premium option for dead mouse retrieval.
Great review as always Pete. Ten years of producing quality, funny and informative videos and ruining your shoulder is all it takes, eh? We appreciate you.
Good review, Pete. I did a whole video about knife legality in the UK recently. Always good to get the perspective from people outwith just the US. All the best. Peter
Only killers can get knives in uk...
I recently purchased the Arc and liked it, but I would like to point out that, unlike the Waver+, in addition to not having the ruler, it does not have the hidden lanyard ring, which I use a lot.
I always thought that little gap at the bottom of the cutters was for stripping wire. At least that's what I use it for and I works well.
The cutters apparently work perfectly fine you just need to raise the piece of hard wire a bit unlike previous cutters. They kind of screwed up the instructions and now have to deal with a bunch of warranty claims. No mention of the gap being a wire stripper but if it works it works.
Yes! Pete finally got his arc! Great video! One thing that bugs me with the new blade is them going to a thumb stud; I way prefer the finger hole. The pommel is a really good idea, though. Hope it trickles down to the Wave/Curl line...
In Canada you don't need so much an excuse to carry a knife, as that the excuse CANNOT be 'defense' (or offense!). But you can use a Bowie to clean your nails (there is NO size limit). However there are restrictions on IMPORT which are subjective, but amount to a prohibition of knives that can be opened with only one hand. And some pubic servant actually may try flicking one open to assess it's admissibility. Never mind that is as much a pivot-tightness thing as anything.....Some vendors just pre-overtighten pivots before they ship to Canada.
I didn't realize the tariff's and basically FU tax was so bad to get it in Australia. While the Arc is expensive for a multi-tool it's about the average price you'd pay for a normal magnacut folder here in the US. I really like mine as it has the best tool set for my use.
The exchange rate hasn’t made things better in Oz. I don’t know what others think but I felt there was a step change in shipping rates shortly after COVID hit. Blade HQ seemed to go from ~$35 to >$80. Not just knives but across the board. Possibly understandable with international shipping during a global pandemic but it hasn’t come down. Shopping from uk / Europe didn’t seem as badly impacted. Just me ?
They have a completely bonkers gvnmt too. People had to do what they said or get the hose.
@@tacticalcenter8658that’s a stretch mate, probably don’t comment on it if you don’t know?
Pete always happy to see you have a new post. Mutitool evaluations aren't my favorite subject for you to tackle but always know you will give some valuable info on them. I definately have a few around here but never paid anything close to that for them. BTW, the knife is the least important thing on them for me - only used for jobs that are too abusive for my primary knife but I am in the U S & a state which doesn't care what knife I carry.
I've heard others say the same thing, but personally I use my multi tool knife the exact opposite way. The multi tool knife is only for light duty stuff for me, my dedicated knife gets all the abuse and hard work, that way the leatherman blade is always sharp and precise for fine cuts. Multi tool blades are usually too flimsy and small I dont want to abuse it, then if I do need a razor edge I know that one is still sharp if my primary knife is down to just a working edge
A beautiful $500 hammer! Great review Pete. In terms of pure optics I find the Wave chrome look is much better than that of any of the bigger/newer Leatherman tools.
Bought it last night going to put it down as a work expense. i've had a skeletool for about 7 years and used their guarantee when I broke the pliers - they sent me a new one.
Give it up for Uncle Randy and the Leathermen 😂
I already have an Arc but still watched every second. Thanks for the work put into this video!
The lilting quality of how you said “The apricot nectar for the apricot chicken was in a can with a non ring pull.” Sounded poetic.
A very nice, comprehensive review of this tool....Thanks! Congrats on your 10 years!😊
In the US you can get a "Special Discount" if you are Military, First Responder, etc. Brings the price down to $161 👍
Also if you’re a student!
You got a subscribe from me, similar to what others have said, I have been sick of reviews where guys just look at the tool and explain what they assume will be good or not. Hands on testing is the way to go, thanks!
This is the only review anyone needs 👍 too expensive for me, and I kinda think the Magnacut is overkill on a multitool.
I carry the Rebar but will try to find the money for a Curl - I would love a 154cm or s30v blade option.
The Curl has the 420HC blade; you might find the Skeletool CX useful (154CM blade) or the Charge + (154CM blade), or the Charge + TTI which has both a 420 HC blade (serrated) and a S30V non-serrated blade.
@stiglagerfeld9151 yes, but I like the Curl for weight and tool selection. If I could get for instance a s30v blade and swap it out - that would be nice.
Magnacut isnt overkill when its soft. Its just unnecessarily expensive.
Oh boy nothing shows the passage of time like a Cedric and Ada video
The cutting test I was waiting for, thanks!
Leatherman should go the way of Spyderco. In the sense that they should identify their top selling multitools and offer “sprints” or variants of the same tool. And price accordingly.
Wave with S35VN +$20 or whatever
Surge with CRU-WEAR +$30 or whatever
Make the extra cash on existing beloved models instead of dumping cash into a new design, charging more and then having it flop.
I’d personally love an M4 wave. Maybe only available through BHQ and with a weird mint green handle.
You get what I’m saying…
Yeah that would be a cool idea, but there's no way it would only be $20 more. They would charge close to $200 maybe $180 imo. The garage series are basically sprint runs, just not in the specific way you mean.
Great review, first real test of Magna cut that I’ve seen. At the Aust price point I expect to see a full bit kit not just 1/2 a kit included.
Had one in my hand yesterday and while it won’t be replacing the surge+ I edc for work they def bought multi tool tech into the 21st century & I think if they drop $100 off the price it just might give the wave+ a serious run especially with those who already use a leatherman regularly.
Finally! The review on the Arc I’ve been waiting on - great review as always Pete
Great review mate. Love my arc and loved watching!
I don't think I'll be changing from my TTi+. This doesn't seem as well refined to me. Having a second knife on the tool I don't care about abusing is kind of a big deal to me.
You can probably get a Hogue Deka and a Wave for the same price...
Was really looking forward to your take on this one Pete
Keep up the great work man!
Still illegal here in the UK because the blade locks. Pathetic or what?
I’ve honestly never understood the rationale behind that restriction. What difference does it make to how much damage you can do with the knife?
Now that was quite an honest review and incredibly helpful review! Thanks!
😂 Fetching dead mice and slicing chicken with the same tool is frowned upon even in Kolkata.
You get all the nutrients this way!
I appreciate the Colab with AKB, never did see how many beer cans it cuts can I see that episode of the knife lab?
I’ve got a G10 charge and no plans to replace it. That being said, my buddy loves his ARC.
I've got the same charge. I like the arc, but with having the charge I'll hold off.
Great review, thank you Bricky and Pete.
My guardian tactical recon 40 is $450 and my large Sebenza is $650. $230 isn't bad for a premium bladed MT.
I bought the Wave Plus out of recommendation of a shoemaker and he sold multitools also by the shop. Gave me a Wave plus in my hand and recommended it. Bought it. He was right.
Excellent tool and thanks for the excellent blade sharpness test comparison
Pete on the subject of Leathermans...but unrelated to the vid. The now discontinued Leatherman Squirt PS4 is the best small stiff ear hair puller around...the pliers. I did not have tweezers at work and could not stop futzing with the an ear hair sprout one day and got desperate and went to the bathroom and where finger nails failed the Squirt pliers worked perfect. From that moment on their number one function has been ear hair pulling...they work great. There is a life hack for everyone...your welcome.
I have a Leatherman Rebar and a Leatherman liner lock 'Buck' style knife. Has a lanyard hook that folds in. Probably the best knife i ever owned. Incredible steel holds a edge fantastic. Sharp as a razor. I lost the thing somewhere between my house and my truck 😢
Thanks, Pete. A very thorough and fair review.
Actually looks awesome too in order to maintain or adjust all the fiddly bits on my hunting rifle / telescopic sight - with the bit kit
I still prefer the Wave, smaller frame and still has a slightly longer blade and saw and also has a serrated blade. I can also open every tool on the wave with one hand and no magnets to attract metal filings and screws and nuts to get stuck to the tool. $500 for a magnacut blade is a rip off, I'd rather get a wave and a surge and still have some loose change.
Thanks for the laugh this morning , i subscribed when you smelled the ARC. 😂
I ordered one, theyre doing a sale where you get a free t2 with orders over $150, and ive never used magnacut before. I plan on this replacing my folder
"10 years of RUclips" Thank you!!!!
I do like my multitools. I have the original PST, a Signal, a Wave+ and ALL the Juice series (love the size). Also a couple of SOGs (love the gears for leverage). But I would question using one for EVERYTHING except in an emergency. ("Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part" as we used to say in IT.) I would really prefer to use real scissors or a hammer, for example. Have you looked into how many REAL tools in a nice case you could buy for $500?. I always have room to carry something like a Bugout to have REAL knife. But if you were not allowed to carry a knife larger than a Leatherman one, it might make sense, especially if then you used it so much that edge retention was really important. But I have more than one pocket.
For me, the Arc is worth it. I’ve wanted to get a MagnaCut knife for a while, so it covers that. Also, I’ve wanted to skip carrying a dedicated knife and carry just the multitool and the better blade steel makes me more comfortable with that as well. The Wave+ I have is pretty nice, does most of what I want, but I don’t like the fact that not all tools can be opened from the outside and with one hand. Every tool on the Arc can be opened one-handed, and the locking mechanism is much nicer as well. My only minor gripe is no serrated blade for cutting fibrous materials, but it rarely got used anyway.
Looks like the Free series have moved up a tier!
Put your charge plus cutters on the Arc. It’s a wire cutter design change, not specific to certain tools. Any new Leatherman with replaceable wire cutters has the gap. Old ones don’t. I’m guessing your signal is 2 years old or newer. Or you sent it in for warranty within 2 years and they put the new style cutters on there.
nice to know, thanks for the tip i will!
Hi. I often use an awl as a package opener. How would you sharpen it?
I have the Signal as my main Multitool and I own some near $300 knives with less premium steels, so I can definitely see the value of it.
I am sorry for all you out there that have such terrible knife restrictions. In the state I live in there is no limit to length of folder you can carry. I usually carry a multi-tool(ARC now), a use knife and a spare just in case knife. I grew up in the country on farmland and you always needed a knife. I later added several flashlights and then other stuff.
I haven’t used my wire cutters yet but holding my breath. My knife blade came not very sharp but I put good edge on it in about a minute. Edit (Removed info about wire cutter issue)
A knife is a tool. That's all the reason you should need.
cooking with that after sorting the dead mice soup is bonkers
I don't know why I found the wrapping in the car bit so funny, but I did 😅
Congrats on being the first guy to wreck the thumbstud on an Arc.
Florida man, big fan of Leatherman
Is it possible to open the knife blade with one's left thumb [for a left-handed person, for instance] using the thumb-tab, or is the thumb-tab only useable from the right hand?
Happy 10 year anniversary.
Damn it I have been waiting on this review for my decision! Thank you Pete!!!
My first multi-tool I got about a year ago was the free p4 and love it. The arc seems to be the same thing just beefed up
My favorite thing about this tool is there is no pinch point when closing the pliers
I like my SAK. Been carrying it for a couple weeks
I don't care if it's made of gold if you scared to lose it use it or abuse it then it's not worth 200+
MORE BRICK
Opens leatherman video, hears Undertale music,
Instant sub.
Did the exact same to the thumbstud, also had to sharpen mine straight away. Great tool though
We could make our own markings/ruler with a scriber then again how often do we need one.? A mini retractable measuring tape is a sufficient addition to a carry. So do we, the side of the handle makes an excellent hammer. The only almost perfect multitool is full of mods. Our are modified to our requirement & everyday usages. The replaceable cutters are as good as all the others, it only need proper usage as you point out. Great comparison vid mate. Thank you for sharing.
Great review! I did opt for the ARC myself, from the free P4, and the P4 i invested the extra for the zapwizard bit piece , and a chinese version T bit holder, so it ended up owing me more than the price of an ARC! I also have the Charge TTI which i do like so between the 2, i think they are the perfect pair, Cheers 👍✌
Thank you for a good review!
What is the screw at the thumb stud, is a torx 6 maybe? Thx
Where are the magnets and how strong are they? I need to keep magnets away from mechanical watches
I love my arc man! But I was previously carrying a free p2 so I've always been a fan of the free system!🤙🏽 awesome video bud 👍🏽
I still wish there was an option for a fully modular, customizable multi tool. Once fully assembled, i'm SURE the parts would be more expensive than the whole. But each owner could have exactly what they need in one convenient tool. Which is kind of the point, yeah?
GOAT multi tools comes to mind as the closest thing to that, but I have no experience with one.
It's cheaper in Canada than United States by about 75 dollars. It's selling for $300 Canadian.
Victorinox Multitool, is NR. 1
i wish the Work Sharp was able to reverse rotation. i use mine all the time, mainly just the purple belts for lighting fast "strop"
So the rounded cutters have appeared on tools since 2021 multiple examples from around the world. The shattering has only happened recently so I do believe it's a batch issue as Leatherman claim.
I'm also in Australia and my state has the rule you can have a knife on your person at home or at work address. A knife must be in a locked container for transport. (Including inside a work vehicle)
A locked container for transport? That's very different from the southern US.
If you drop it on the ground will it pick up dust or sand? And if so, is it hard to clean after that?
Medal dust on the magnets, good point. 10 yrs keep it up !
$500 and you're picking up rats with it? Wtf go get some tongs or something.
If I ever get an Arc, it'll stay as far away as possible from anything nasty.
230USD.
How much twisted sisal scrap do you have Steve?
Oh, boy, I just watched the Advanced Knife Bro film and now this. Monday, get the fuck in.
I've got to say it the ark makes the wave the buck 110 of multitools
G'day Pete, up front, I'm not a Multitool fan, .... get the exercise and go and get the right tool for the job ; )
And 500 knicker AUD, ........ that's obscene, ....... even with magnacut and some other niceties. And yes there's the USP, and other couriers too; personally I've had wins and losses, efficiency wise, ..... though in fairness, mostly wins.
And yep on top of that, ........ local "middle man" profitability is very variable.
However; ....... moving on, .............. the best multitool review I've even seen, ....... because;
not only did you analyse/compare it, (with steel testin included), extremely well, but you also pointed out those aspects relating to knife law and social acceptability; .. that's the reality alright, (here in oz at least), .... well said mate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
............... mind you, if you happen to be a "gadget addict".... I would suggest carrying some decent meds, in terms of legal justification, .... should the constabulary ever wish to push the point, .............. hehehe.
Could'nt resist a parting shot mate ; )
Seriously though, ... great vid and hava good one. Cheers Duke.
Sweet Lemongrab tattoo 🔥
Can you please make a video based on your experience in which steel is the sharpest to slice with rather than just a hard edged steel pretty please ?
No. It is not a thing. Geometry cuts.
I can’t understand why they went with such an odd bit kit. My immediate thought when I looked at mine was, oh they cleverly moved along all the overstock of bits no one want. Furthermore it’s unique to the arc so it opens the door for people to buy one or both of Leatherman’s actual bit kits, that are in fact useful. I’m also right there with you as far wanting some sort of measurement reference. All in all though it’s a great tool and certainly an upgrade from the P4.
I had a full bit kit, so I have what I need, but yes it's strange the bits they included
Yummy mouse tool for prepping dinner
Nice one, long live MC !
For the price, I'd wish they start puting beter steel in the tool too. A good saw or screwdriver are harder than 420hc can be...
Lucky mouse!
First to try out the Leatherman Arc!
And the pliers no less!
I've spent about the same price on a Benchmade bugout m390 and all it is just a blade and no extra features.
Great review and overall thoughts
no bucket test?
I cant wrap my head around the fact that they put a coating on magnacut.
please tell me there is a how to on that amazing rat bucket. Serious question.
Theres a whole channel on the subject.
Love your videos and appreciate the insight and dedication. Thanks!!!
I appreciate that!
I dislike the magnetic locking system even though I haven't had it in hand. I always am around metal shavings and its annoying using tape to clean magnetic parts off all the time. Its a shame because if it wasnt for that id buy it. Ill have to stick to my charge plus tti
Good point, hadn’t considered this.
The chickens ate well this video lol. Now that's a rat!
Your preaching to the choir about the USPS. They will literally yell at you for standing in the wrong line.
