After the first movie was a surprising hit ($11 million budget and $200 million box office), Warner almost immediately went to the director, Joe Dante, and asked him to do a sequel. Dante originally said no, wanting to move onto other projects and also thought that the first had a good enough ending on its own. Warner spent several years trying to find someone to do the 2nd film, finally crawling back to Dante and begging him to do it. Dante agreed with two conditions, complete control and 3x the budget. His entire approach to the movie was "fuck it", we got a glorious mess and a box office flop, just how Dante wanted it.
When I was a little kid, my grandma had a stuffed Gizmo, and I loved him so much that she told me I could take him home. This was probably around 1986. I STILL have him.
BWHAHAHA! Jay: "Shut up! We got a CARDI-B GREMLIN?" "It IS Cardi-B!" "Oh, she bout to TAKE the d**k!!" & finally his Weinstein comment during the first debut scenes with Greta, the first real female Gremlin, were ALL SOOO FUNNY! JUST GOLDEN! I was ROLLIN! 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️
The big tall scientist guy is indeed Count Dooku. Its Christopher Lee. He was also Sarumon in Lord of the Rings, Dracula in several horror films. He was part of the Hammer Horror movie series way back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. He was also a badass. He was all over the place during the war and served with special forces although he would never speak about it. He told Peter Jackson how someone should act when stabbed from behind (like his character in Lord of the Rings who is stabbed in the back)....you dont cry out, said Lee....you gasp...uh, uh....He knew because he had been stabbed and stabbed people.
If you get the chance, look up the alternate VHS scene for the film break. It was redone as a tape getting jammed and replaced Hulk Hogan with John Wayne having a shootout against the Gremlins.
If I had a nickle for every time there was a Breaking Bad actor in a Gremlins movie, I'd have $.15, which isn't much, but it's weird it happened three times.
Also, watch the Key & Peele Gremlins 2 pitch meeting sketch. It’s exactly what you said you’d like to see (and the writers confirmed it was basically what really happened after the fact)
Gremlins 3 is supposedly in the works! If they do it right, it could be amazing and personally, I'd love to see Gizmo on the big screen again. I loved Gizmo when I was a kid. I even named one of my puppies after him. We dressed him up for Halloween one year by placing a red bandanna on his head and around his ear so he'd look like the Rambo version of Gizmo from this movie. He was a Shih Tzu though and since we had to keep some of his fur pulled back out of his eyes he ended up looking more like a ninja wearing a red wrap around his head with most of his hair in a ponytail. He was the sweetest puppy though. It's been 20 years since he passed but I still miss that baby. So, yeah, I love me some Gizmo!
Red Letter Media did a really good proposal for Gremlins 3 where Clamp from Gremlins 2 is President and the Gremlins get on Twitter and somehow go through the internet to cause nationwide chaos
"This is the best WTF movie I've seen". Should be the motto for the Gremlins franchise. There's rumors a new Gremlins movie is in the make. And with the new Beetlejuice movie coming out it makes me so happy that our childhoods are making a return.

9:53 the janitor in this scene is none other than John Astin, Mr. Gomez Addams from the original black and white The Addams Family. If that doesn’t do it for you, then it is the adoptive father of one Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin)! Sean Astin’s mama is Patty Duke as well. Pretty cool.
Best scene of the whole movie is when Hulk Hogan is yelling at the gremlins and he says "Do you think the Gremsters can stand up to the Hulkster!!" LOL
Hell yeah the scientist guy is count dooku. Christophe Lee. Dude is a legend. Before he was a dope actor he was in the special forces during world war 2.

Gremlins is such a great franchise of films. They are currently working on writing Gremlins 3. It's gonna be produced by Spielberg's Amblin Ent. They haven't announced a director yet, but I hope Joe Dante agrees to come back and direct the third one since he directed the first two. Joe Dante is well known for many great cocaine cabinet 80s films like both Gremlins, Innerspace (1987) and The Howling (1981) plus many more great films. Chris Columbus (who directed the Harry Potter films) is who you thank for creating the Gremlins, he came up with the stories/characters and wrote the scripts. :) Ah the 80s...where cocaine and creativity ruled. ;)
I wish i'd watched this originally in the cinema, if only to get the full effect of The Hulkster cutting a promo on the Gremlins when they messed with the movie!
Gremlins 3 has been in post production hell for years! But in the meantime I recommend the movie Critters. It's not Gremlins but it's kind of like Gremlins, it was made to capitalize off the success of the first Gremlins movie, it's just more horror in it but it's still really funny too. They said yes, and we got this masterpiece of a parody of the original itself, and an anarchistic comedy. Just perfect up and down. So many jokes, references and little things. Gotta watch more than once for sure.

The "end of civilization" video is based on a real thing.
