    The 2.0L turbo four option in the 10th gen ended up being a pretty good replacement for the old J-series V6 in 7th-9th gen Accords. They even offered a manual trans with it for 2018-2019, which was really fun! For 20 years there was a good "go faster" option in Accords, and that's now gone. No way my mom would give up her 2015 V6 coupe for this 11th gen and its powertrains, that's for sure.

    • @Rob165x
      @Rob165x Год назад +8

      yeah it's sad that regulations are killing power in these motors. If you want power you need to go to something like a Mustang, or german, or sporty. Ecoboost at 350 lb tq. is a beast on a car thats only 27k. I mean I know V6 were pretty dated as no R&D was going into them, but it's still sad they're going. i.e. Ford got rid of the mustang v6 in 2018.

    • @thatoneotherotherguy
      @thatoneotherotherguy Год назад +21

      @@Rob165x cars are unfortunately held to a higher emissions/mpg standard federally than "4WD Off highway capable SUVs". For many manufacturers, that has led to them ditching sedans/hatchbacks, and going after the easier regulations by making everything an AWD crossover or SUV that barely meets the requirements to get the easier classing. I am positive this is why Mazda ditched FWD versions of the CX-30 and CX-5 and made AWD standard. Just to be put in a more lenient regulation category. Automakers would still be putting out great sedans if regulations didn't annoyingly penalize making small cars by holding them to a higher standard.

      It's truly sad to see where the sedan market is today. You can't hardly find a naturally aspirated engine today that is not a dinky 1.8 or 2.0. The old Accord 2.4 was zippy enough and got great gas mileage for it's class. Guess we still got the Camry until they come for it as well.

    • @thatoneotherotherguy

      @@captinbeyond They never made a 2.5L Accord, but there was a 2.4L. Pretty sure you can still get a 2.4L Camry. And if you're interested in buying garbage, a 2.5L Altima. That being said, Hondas 1.5L turbo scoots the Accord quite aggressively, much better than the older 2.4L, while pulling better fuel economy.

      It's not exactly difficult to make those garbage low rolling resistance tires squeal. My 15 Fusion Hybrid had them when I first bought it and I could spin the tires driving straight on dry pavement while going 25-30mph. After I put UHP tires on the Fusion it felt like I had a whole different car. Before I couldn't go 20 and take a turn, but now I can make that pig wollow around a turn going 35. I can whip that hog around the twisties at an impressively dangerous speed before my tires begin to squeal too, and if they do start to squeal it's a good indicator that snap oversteer is about to nullify my DNR.
      It's amazing how different a car can feel with a decent set of tires.

      @@basithph8958 You might see a handful of them on a daily basis, but that doesn't mean they sell enough of them. I've always seen many gr86 around, but the actual number of them being sold is quite low. If they were really selling a lot of them, Honda wouldn't have removed the 2.0T from the new Accord. It sucks, but that's the reality of the situation.

    • @basithph8958
      @basithph8958 Год назад

      @@Aki_Lesbrinco See now you're saying you see a handful of GR86s around I have seen a couple from time to time as well as new BRZs maybe that depends on where you live but you can't compare the sales of a 2+2 sports car to a mid size sedan that's like comparing apples to oranges
      Yeah sure the GR86 and BRZ doesn't sell a lot nor is it known to sell a lot but the Accord is one of the best selling sedans and has been for decades so they're vastly different so you can't just say just because the 2.0T didn't sell as much as the 1.5T is like how the GR86 and BRZ sells on the market that's not even comparable at all
      The point I was trying to make was for something that is like in the mid 30s to low 40s, the Accord 2.0T sold well for what it is and at least it justified the value
      Now with the new Accord that's only CVT and 1.5T available with the older 2.0 hybrid engine just doesn't make this any more appealing than the last gen and as it is something that goes up to 40k it doesn't justify its value either so this is why I don't understand why they took out the 2.0T and 10-speed and how it is going to do well in the first place
      It looks pretty bleak for the Accord yes it'll definitely sell but not as much as the 10th gen

    • @Aki_Lesbrinco
      @Aki_Lesbrinco Год назад +5

      @@basithph8958 I know they're completely different class of cars. My point is that just because you see "many" of them in your area, doesn't mean that they sold what Honda needed to justify keeping the 2.0t trim. If they were selling in a significant number VS the 1.5t trims they would've kept it. It sucks, but lets be objective, Honda saw the trim as a dead end sales wise and they eliminated it . At the end of the day Honda could not justify the expense and removed the least selling drivetrain option. While the Accord is one of the best selling sedans the majority of the sales kept getting skewed in favor of the lower powered drivetrain models and overall sales have been on a steep decline as has been happening to all sedans. Unfortunately, we are close to only having a bunch of CUVs and no sedans or coupes to choose from. Man, I miss the 90's and early 2000s, we used to have a lot more choices, other than CUVs and SUVs.

    Guys great job as usual, I was wondering if you can ask the Honda engineers next time, why don't they offer a all wheel drive Accord. The Toyota Camry offers all wheel drive. I have read in the past it is because Honda wants best fuel economy, but I really would like to see them come out with all wheel drive. I know years ago they had the Accord Crosstour wagon that offered all wheel drive, but never on the accord sedan. Keep up the great work.
