I think the problem for him that day was the angle the darts hit the board rather than an issue with the equipment. Maybe the unicorn board plays into this but I think it's likelier that it had something to do with his throw or grip that was causing the dart points to only penetrate lightly into the board.
I think we see why, Unicorn boards are soft as shit now. The consequence being that aggressive grip dart points are so hard on it, and chew them up easily.

It happens with every board it’s not unicorn! Throw 100 darts on one80, winmau, unicorn, target, mission etc. They all fall out out somtimes! Now use an old board where the spider sits on top and is held in place with staples you will never get a bounce out because the spider is not making the material tighter as it gets towards the bull.👍🥶

I think the issue was his darts points were basically in the exact same spot and just loosened them so much they fell out.

You get bounce outs a lot more from the staples of old boards fyi. Falling out the board once in is a different matter
My 1983 Nodor would disagree. You've a 50/50 chance of a bounce out going for a bull there is so much metal there. Still a good old board though.
