• Bouncing Souls - Ugly ...
The Bouncing Souls are a band I never really got into when I was a young punk for some reason. I had heard of them, I generally liked their music, but never really got into them.
As I've become an older, more jaded person, I've started to dip back into those bands I never got into the first time around (The Bouncing Souls, Jawbreaker, The Alkaline Trio etc...) and finding how much I enjoy them, and kicking myself for not giving them the proper chance before
The bouncing souls were the first punk show I went to with my older brother. It was the summer of 95 and I was 12. They played with Blanks77, John Cougars Concentration Camp, and headlining with AFI (back when they were good) at the time we only knew of the early Souls stuff like green ball crew and The Good, The Bad, and The Argyle LP. The show opened my eyes and solidified my love for Punk rock and honestly wouldn’t have led me to early hardcore scene as well in the mid 90s so my love for the souls has always been true
I read "it was the summer of 95" and keasby nights started playing in my head
I remember hearing "Hopeless Romantic" on Punk-O-Rama 4 and instantly falling in love with them
As a central Jersey native I feel like I really take the Bouncing Souls for granted. In my early 20s it seemed like those guys were everywhere. I can’t even remember how many times I’ve seen them live. They were just everywhere. I remember seeing Pete all the time at Asbury Lanes just hanging out. And at some point everybody was getting Souls tattoos from Brian himself. They really are a great band, I always wished I had seen them in the tiny Court Tavern basement.
I'm from north Jersey but lived near a quickchek lol what county are you from
props for the Much the Same deck on your wall! First time I've noticed that
I mean, who hasn't gotten drunk and played "Olé" on repeat?
Never have I.
Definitely not El Generico
_"No one can beat us."_
I'm more of a "True Believer" myself.
I heard that they drink beer and wear Adidas.
The Bouncing Souls self titled is the best..hands down.
Great video. These guys are fucking cool. Ran into them at multiple shows in the 90’s and they were always down to shoot the breeze.
Holiday Cocktail Lounge.
I think there’s too many filler tracks near the end, now Summer Vacation on the other hand, that’s a banger start to finish
@@toddpacker4683Yeah, that run between Hopeless Romantic and Anchors Aweigh is untouchable. 3 classics in 4 years is not too shabby.
Favourite channel!!
Very underrated band. They should’ve been top tier with rancid and the offspring. Great catchy singalongs
Among my fave bands of all time. Got to be on the same bill with these guys and that makes me one of the luckiest people alive
Love Bouncing Souls! One of my favourite punk bands for sure ❤️🙌
I was on that mailing list back in the day.
Hey look it’s Drew! I miss shooting photos of Burn Burn Burn. Dude was lots of fun at shows. Now I’m old and fat and haven’t been to a show in forever.
The Bouncing Souls are a band that really lift me up, the place I live goes trough a lot crap pretty much every year, so they can give all the posi. Now I realise they have a such an interesting history, thanks for sharing it. And about that Menzingers video, give it to me anytime!
Saw them in Jacksonville in 95 or 96 with Against All Authority. Show was really great. They were already very poplar there. Venue was packed wall to wall
Great video as always. Love the Souls.
And a Menzingers video? Yes please!
As someone who lived in new brunswick 98-02 this made me very happy to see! they were already like "famous" by then and really fathered a lot of the bands that came after. good dudes
Great video, thanks for this. I had no knowledge of the early days of the Bouncing Souls. Maniacal Laughter was the first album I heard, and I saw them for the first time when they toured for Hopeless Romantic.
Great video, the souls are awesome and I enjoyed the deep dive. A Menzingers video would be awesome, and it would also be great to see something on The Lawrence Arms.
I used to bump How I Spent My Summer Vacation when I was only 10. One of the first 20 albums I ever bought! I knew about them because the music videos for "True Believers" and "Gone" would often play on public television after midnight. I had no idea they released countless of demos and eps before releasing Maniacal Laughter. I thought Maniacal was their only debut. I always sought them as a Hardcore band because of Bryan's looks and Greg's beret lol
Thanks for this. I first saw the bouncing souls is some small, smokey dirty basement in New Brunswick in 1994ish. Now I am laying in bed, sick for days in Israel, and enjoying a trip into the past.
here we go
forever love this band, first real band I saw live, 10/15/04 baby
Hopeless Romantic was my first and favorite all the back in 90s. I still regularly listen to it/them. AA and How I spent my summer vacation being close 2nd and 3rd. I'd say why I still love them and what they bring but I think you covered it well. Ty
Phenomenal band. I’ve seen them 22 times. One of my favorite concerts EVER was in April of 2005 at The Downtown in Farmingdale, NY with opening bands The Loved Ones and The Explosion.
I got to see THE BOUNCING SOULS here in Aotearoa New Zealand with two of my mate's bands opening for them " THE CITY NEWTON BOMBER'S (check out video into the night)
And MISSING TEETH (check out video The Plague Live at new zealand punk fest 2007 the Bouncing Souls thought both bands put them on notice to be at the top of their game And they were 👏👏👏👍🤘✌️
YOOOO I’m just now finding your channel because I am going to the Bouncing Souls show in Boston next week and I NEVER miss them when they come to MA.
I am that person that sees someone wearing a Menzingers shirt or have a back patch or patch on their bomber vest out in the wild and will part the crowds like Moses and the Red Sea to go tell that person how much I LOVE The Menzingers because I never really meet other fans of theirs around Boston.
So yes. If you haven’t yet, PLEASE do a show on The Menzingers because I got SOOOO WICKED EXCITED when you got all enthusiastic about them and now I’m gonna go listen to them now and you have a new subscriber.
Anchors Aweigh!!!!!! Been playing that a bunch lately 🤘
Thank you so much for the video I saw them this past weekend in Austin great show. Before the internet learning about new bands wasn't easy. Either you went to shows all the time (which i couldn't afford to go to all the time)or heard about them by word of mouth. For me it was the compilation albums punk o rama etc. Tony hawk soundtrack none of us would have heard of the bouncing souls or other greatbands like them. Without these great compilations from the various record labels.
These dudes are the best. Still my favorite
Hell yes, Menzingers vid.
The first song I ever played in a band was Kate is Great.
Posting this early is not punk unless you haven’t gone to bed yet…..and your drunk
Nah yeah maybe punkrockers do things whenever they feel like it.
Hay how many punkrockers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Well at least two but how the hell did they get in there?
I’m watching this in the 20 minutes before I have to go to work. Certified not punk lmao
@@hannahkozlovic1715 that's Punk as fuck ya got to eat to keep the strength to give the middle finger to the Man
It’s a scheduled upload lol
@@thepunkhistorian6397bruh, you should
totally do a video on Mephiskapheles
''Who's gonna throw the toilet? Who's gonna throw the toilet off the roof?''... i caught a CT show from a US tour with Avail. Killer show for sure. Had Toad's Place shakin'.
This is a potential new band-to-love for me and I've noticed they're playing nearby me this year. If I really pick up on these guys then I'll 100% have another show to go to.
Please make a video on the menzingers
YES DO THE MENZINGERS!
isn't that first scene in this video from the "fear of a punk planet" tv show? joe escalante from the vandals wrote and starred in it. i've got it on dvd somewhere. i bought it from kung-fu records well over 20 years ago. and that inspecter 7 shirt in that scene is fucking awesome.
SHARK ATTACK SHARK ATTACK SHARK ATTACK!!!!
I thought everything after Anchor's Away was really stale and boring. but everything before that was pretty good. Dpes anybody else feel this way?
The Gold Album was the last really good one. The newer albums have some good songs but it's a much different style. It's not uncommon for bands to mellow out a bit as they get older.
@@dave011679 I thought the gold song was the only good song from the gold album.
Nah I looove Anchors Aweigh. Definitely was the band reaching their peak. The Gold Record has some really solid tracks but also quite a few duds, and that’s kinda been the story for them ever since. Although I have been enjoying Ten Stories High a lot more than I expected and the Crucial Moments EP was good too.
@@robjgolde3221 I like Anchors Away as well.
@@dave011679I think ten stories high is definitely up there the singles alone Carry the amount is blast ten stories high (the song) om repeat is insane
Yes to a menzingers video
Never heard them. Remember when they started. You can't be punk if you're from 2006. RUclips'd them and they suck. Crying tears-in-your-beers emo garbage. Yuck. Most people that say they are into punk only like mainstream bands like this and not actually underground bands no one's heard of. Any band that sounds like Bruce Springsteen is not punk. Bruce Springsteen sucks 100%.
Amazing band
I'd like to vote a firm 'hell yes' for a Menzingers vid!
You mentioned sticks n stone, rip Jack Terricloth...
It was recorded at Longview Farms in MA, not at Westbeach in Hollywood.
you should do a couple videos on seattle punk and hardcore lots of rad history
I've been in love with them since 1996. But its really hard being an Arizonan and a Bouncing Souls fan these days.
Just asking.. why? Cheers from Orange County California 🇺🇸
I fucking love The Bouncing Souls. I must've seen them a dozen times. How I Spent My Summer Vacation and Anchors Aweigh were formative for me.
MFs lived exactly the life I aspired to as a teen. Dream life of punk.
Can you talk about the band eskorbuto
Best things to come out of my state were half of Blondie and bouncing souls
Please do Face to Face. Great band that brought a lot to punk rock with Disconnected and their harmonic sound. Lotta PR history there. 😁
Face to Face for ever.
Keep up the good work
Rival BMX gangs . . . New Jersey in the 80s ladies and gents.
Would you consider doing a history of Fishbone?? If there’s a harder band to categorize I’ve never heard them, especially their early stuff
I love bouncing souls
AA was definitely their peak. My favorite band. I've seen them more times than any other band and wear my rocker heart hoodie everyday. It's been steadily downhill from AA though. Sad to say. Their new record sounds like punk rock meets elevator music. I'm kinda broken hearted and I'm not even trying to be clever in saying that.
Just saw these guya at punk in drublic
Did i hear menzingers👀cause yes
aye epitaph!
28:01 Wait. They recorded an album FOR LimeWire? What the fuck you’re gonna have to explain that some more.
The destroyer of many family computers
yes do a menzingers video
Awesome band but i think they peaked welllll before Anchors Away, maybe at Hopeless Romantic.
The souls rule
Their singer always looks drunk and bored. And I love them.
Not hating but this is basically just a retelling of - Do you remember ? 15 years on bouncing souls - a doc free here on youtube if you wanna hear the band expaining all this
Bloody awful live but they have great songs and are lovely guys.
😂
I ride bikes and wear adidas
I hate if they say to term kids it's cringe and retarded, they are adults not 8 year old kids🙄
They suck now. No one wears their merch in real life btw.
For me they are boring
Is bouncing souls ska?
Yes, they always have been.
