  • This pair of Merrell Wilderness hiking boots was mailed to us for repair. These boots were in very rough shape and were definitely in need of a restoration. After re-dyeing these boots and adding some new Vibram Montagna rubber soles, this makeover is complete. Time for another restoration!

Thank you guys! They look amazing. Cannot wait to see them in person! These are my dads boots from the 80’s. He’s an Eagle Scout and has logged hundreds of miles in them.

Thank you and greetings from the UK. I came across you quite by chance. The video brought back memories of my father, a master shoe maker and shoe repairer. I was particularly interested to see you heating the glue to form a better bond. My father did that - he called it vulcanising. He used the same process while making bespoke fishing waders - these had canvass uppers on Wellington boots and had leather soles with studs (for grip) or thick felt (so as not to disturb the fish!) or the original rubber cleats. He had the same machines you seem to have. My father often brought home shoes which needed new welts - he would hand stitch these with waxed thread which had a pig’s whisker at each end to thread the waxed thread through holes made with an awl. He really could make shoes talk! Thank you again.

A beautiful sight to see a real Artisan at work.this kind of work was carried out everywhere in England .every postcode had access to real cobblers but sadly virtually all gone.yes they still exist but only in handmade very high end shoes that are out of most people's price range.i wanted this work carried out on my berghaus boots cannot find a single cobblers.berghaus actually told me they no longer offer this service and would be advisable to purchase a new pair.biggest joke is they sell boots with replaceable vibram sole but you cannot get them replaced .

Just wanted to say thanks! I recently decided to try my hand at some simple leather projects and I bought an inexpensive set of tools from Amazon. It didn't come with much as far as directions, or uses for each tool; cheap awls, punches, and the like, and I figured all of them out save one. I wasn't sure what it was supposed to be used for until I happened across one of your videos. I don't know what it's called, but discovered the very useful pointy crochet hook thing that you guys use to sew the welts onto the shoes! Kinda like an awl, but easier I think. Since then, I've used it to re-do a pair of cheap sandals with new leather straps. I am interested in just about every type of craft, I suppose you could say I'm that Jack of all trades and master of none, lol. Really enjoy your videos; you're both very pleasant to look at, and I've learned a lot!

I am not sure why someone would dislike this video. There are a couple of points to make here, Trenton and Heath are brothers working together and that is no small feat. Family doesn't always make the best work mates or business partners. They are doing the videos in their work space, not a studio so audio and video are as controlled as possible. And considering the quality of the videos they spend a lot of time editing it as well. And finally most can not imagine the amount of practice it takes to get good at a trade. Not everything can be learned from books. Thumbs up guys.

You guys reinspired me to take care of my boots. My last pair when I first got them I was taken care of them but as time went on not as much and then the uppers split just right above where it meets the sole but I did get over two years of good hard work out of them. My new pair I put on a good coat of waterproofing conditioner on them regularly and try to use my rubber boots more often cause I constantly work with water and cleaning chemicals that do a lot damage to leather over time but the downside to wearing rubber boots is they less comfortable especially when working on ladders.
