Nice :) Regarding ABS - it was not working, because this car has no ABS :) You can notice, when you start it up, there is no ABS indicator light (should be next to brake light). 2004 is actually the last year when it was possible to buy this model without ABS. Since 2005 it was mandatory for all new cars to be equipped with ABS (EU requirements). I had the same Polo 1.4TDI 2004, no ABS as well. I drove it up to 450 000km, 2 years ago, last 1000km included 4 laps in Nurburgring. Now my neighbour is still driving it.

The electric motor should be checked. Mine made the same noise but louder. After I fixed that part I had no more problems
