I have one of these P&H bows and I highly recommend them for beginners on the violin. Well made, perfect weight, well balanced and hair quality is a lot better than the Chinese bows that I've tried. I know these are probably made in China too. Cost me £40 new but worth every penny
Indeed. The hard part is getting the hair to get in straight order while tying the end and not losing any tension. I’m sure there’s a tool that helps with this but so far I like to do it as awkward as possible while holding the hair in one hand, and trying to tie a knot with one hand and my teeth lol
I moved several times in the past 8 years and didn't have opportunity to unpack my 2 violins & 3 bows. When I did yesterday, lo and behold all the bow hairs were broken. A local string shop offered to sell me a new bow for ONLY $60 and that was my intention this morning UNTIL I saw how easy it is. I will be buying/ordering new hairs. Thank you for the close up views which were very clear, unlike the other videos I checked out. I'll edit this with an update once I've gotten the new hairs and tried this method. It sure looks straightforward and simple.
I was wondering myself how to change my bow cuz re-hair bow service is rare in Malaysia. Thanks to this video I can change it my own. Domo Arigatou sensei
Thank you for posting this video I found a violin bow its a 100 years old and I want to fix it here in New York City 6:46 in the morning watching your videos hoping to learn about the violin world
I realize this video is older but thanks for making it! I just bought a used violin at auction and the bow hair is in pretty rough shape. Hopefully it can be replaced as easily as this. :-)
The individual hairs of the replacement chunk turned out to be of different lengths. So it looked really weird until I found video showing how to equalize the hairs by heating on a candle. That info should be included in P&H package.
Do bass bows have a wedge? I dropped my bow and the hair basically popped out from the tip and I never found the wedge so I’m wondering where I can find a replacement or if bass bows use a whole different system at the tip please I will take any help I can get
What is a good risen for old dry bow hair. Found a Germany violin in the trash in case. But dont want to play it yet, well, i never played violin. Was think of giving it a try and learn to play.
You said 'this is the only tool you'll ever need.' What tool? You didn't show a close-up and I would like to see it, please. Is it a flat screwdriver, or something else? Thank you.
Hi i have 3 questions about rehair. 1. How to measure the proper amount of hair to use in rehair ?? By quantity of hair like 120 140 160 or weight or something else ?? 2. Is it ok for a rehair to appear to have few big gap that can see thru?? I mean those new hair dont seen to close with each other. 3. Should the hair put more in one side than the other according to which side player use to tilt their bow ?? TQ.
The right amount of hair will vary slightly according to the properties of the stick. A stiffer stick can take a few more hairs. As far as how many hairs to start with, you can get rehairing gauges that will give you a good starting point. And for your last point, you can put a little more hair on the playing side. So cello and bass are reversed from violin and viola.
I amateur violin player here and started rehair my own bow .. i wonder do you mind share me any reasonable price online store to buy those plug & wedge materials ?? By the way from Asia here. Thanks
I 're haired my P&H bow in September...it worked grand for 2 months and then it stopped working. The hair don't tighten up anymore...even if I screw it all the way, when I apply pressure to play the hair touch the carbon fibre. I've had this bow for 2 years...really really disappointed 😞

God bless whoever wrote this. I'm not impatient right now, but going through a difficult time(financially), and the Lord really spoke through your words. Tears won't stop. Thank you. Thank you.
I didn't realize this was a bow brand specific rehair until watching again after watching Gilles Nehr common bow rehair. This is far simpler. I had no interest in rehaiir until purchase of infamous (sales practice) Marxochime Violin-Uke that came with 5 messed up bows, only 1 needed in right hand & a guitar pick in left hand to play. 4 of the bows are probably 1/4 size child suze bows. Ukelin is by a different maker and uses different strings than Violin-Uke. No evidence of rosin use on any of the bows or on the Violin-Uke, one crumble lump of rosin in a holder, not in suitable shape to apply rosin, also in the case. All strings under tension, but a tone lower than labeled pitch. Volume is very low, so I'll need to amplify for my poor hearing.
I have wondered if I could Re-Hair a bow . I just shook my head when I saw how easy this process was . Thank you for making this video !!!
the bow in the wideo was very simple, so I might actually get one of my own. beats paying $50 for a rehair every few months.

thanks
My p&h looks different... Colorful frog slider piece... And I cannot seem to remove it... And p&h won't answer my emails... Help!
Does the kit with bow hair and the small bow stand work with any cello bow - or just P & H bows. How much are kits and where can I purchase please?
amazing
What was the name of the tool you were using?
How much difference does nylon hair make in sound? I am using nylon hairs
Nylon or synthetic hair is only used on inexpensive bows. If you are serious about playing the violin I would suggest horse hair.
Only a few strings are off!
👍🎻
How much is it ,??? what is your arc price ?? I need it urgently !!!

do you have any bows for sale for around 40.00? USD
Looking for an extra box and I might get this just so i can re hair it myself
Thank you Sr I was about to go pay for $80 for the violins and bow🤦♀️
How to order re hair?
My bow hair fell off and I was thinking I will have to buy a new bow 😢😩
if it is as easy as that , why then , do people charg alot just for re-hairing
the quality of hair change the price
Glad I decided to look this up rather than spend $50 to get someone else to do it when I can spend a measly $10 and do it myself.
