That is what i thought, until i got the 14700k and found the 1GHZ improvement per P core to be steller, let alone the scheduling is night and day. It can run on the e-cores doing game updates and installs without touch the P cores while i game.. 12th gen could not do that. But it is still a good CPU. Sell it and you only come out about 150 for a huge upgrade
I stopped watching after "In the past few years, we've seen drastic improvements in processors." Intel on 14nm+++++++++++++. Yeah, sure, "drastic improvements." Making the die's bigger in order to increase core counts doesn't exactly count as "improvements."
The 12700K is better, the 14700K has bad efficency and cooling requirements, therefore a Ryzen 9 is better. The 12700K holds up better beating current Ryzen 7s overall minus the 7800X3D for gaming. It's a productivity beast and the best chip for streaming at that price point, stays cooler than the Ryzen 7s thanks to the Big-Little design.
Definitely worth upgrading? This is a joke! Perhaps if you unse the aditional E-cores for productivity or play E-sports games at competetive setings where the GPU limites the FPS but regular Gamers will see nearly no difference as in most games the GPU is the limiting factor. Making such a general recomendation will have many how upgrade dissapointed after they see no FPS gain aufter investing in an expensive neu CPU.
That is the official intel specs, which you can find on their general site, and in the intel ark database documents. Anything over the official specs, is potentially possible, but not officially supported. Luck of the draw in binning will often get you higher, but is not a guarantee.
Aye, it's all about meeting the requirements for what is "necessary and sufficient". Can a person discern 380 fps from 240 fps (especially if the monitor is not even capable of such high refresh rate)? Why burn more watts for no real benefit, suffering the waste heat and fan noise? A serious creator who does not care about power draw would be using a Threadripper or Xeon workstation. Upgrading from a 12700K to a 14700K would be silly for a casual gamer.
I'm curious I want to build a PC and I want it for at least 8 years future proof. I'm University student CS major and do general coding multiple of languages, and gaming. Do you think the 14700k is worth it ? Or just take the 14600k and invest the the rest in better GPU. Sorry if it was so random but I thought I would ask the first comment I see

Running the 12700k with a 3060ti. I think il hold off until 15th gen before upgrading anything
