Every LGS in the country that saw this video it’s getting sick! I’ve never seen a video that discouraged me more from buying a magic product than this one.
the set itself is good, but when so many decent cards are printed into a single set ofc the value of the cards gets diluted significantly. just basic supply and demand... good time to buy singles though
I stopped buying and selling magic when they started the teasing for dominaria remastered and I am so happy! I remember that people were still believing that the % ratio for getting a decent box would get higher … wizards destroyed the game … now they are over flooding the game with new sets every month and on top of that the new sets are not only 500+ cards ( sometimes more than 700 ) but the actual price and value of the cards is as follows: For every decent mythic/rare you get 200 trash and completely unplayable cards which are on top of everything reprinted most of the time. I switched the TCG world and went full on lorcana and this game is so healthy and good thought that I have no complaints what so ever. Most likely never going back to magic and hope more people realize that they should pay respect and love for a product without heart and soul… magic is long gone … I don’t recognize it as the game it once was and it will never be… now it’s only purpose is to get your money
I got myself booster box of jumpstart 25. I used it to play the jumpstart with my wife. While we pulled exactly the same amount of money in nonbulk rares and mystics as we paid for the box, we also got the playtime. And now most of the packs we opened went into our jumpstart cube to improve it.
Dude, I have a Jumpstat cube too! Mostly original because 2022 was so hard to find. I want to get a box of Foundations Jumpstart but my local LGS sold out of all Foundations like immediately.
@qella46021 yeah, I had to preorder. Back in the day I also got 1 box of JMP, and back then I got terrible luck. So many duplicate themes, and often even the same variants. This time I got only 1 duplicate, and otherwise it was all new. The duplicate pack had expensive rare, so even that was a win. I mostly use lists from regular jumpstart sets, but I have a mix of themes from different sets.
I swear the ad reads get better each post from you professor 😂 the transitions always get me laughing thanks for another relaxing video too! I can’t really buy packs anymore but watching you rip them gives me the same good vibes!
the beginner box is basically a jumpstart cube. and assuming the starter collection can serve as a draft cube, we basically got two precon cubes with this new set.

Looking forward to the Jumpstart iteration. There are a really abnormal number of money cards there for a set whose booster packs are so deterministic.
For real bought some packs and got some good equipment based cards for my Astor commander and also got rev who goes for like 60 when I picked it up and ganna put it in my jasper flint outlaw deck
Man I was really close to buying a booster box for Christmas. Would've been the first in like 15 years. I'm so glad I've watched this video and got reminded to absolutely never do that again. After opening either box I would've been like 'Wtf!? I've spend so much money on...this!?' and that's the last feeling in the world I wanna have. Plenty of better things to spend my money on. :)

Jokes and value aside, the cards aren't worth it in Play Boosters because they move all of the hit cards and versions of them in collector's packs. So no more Masterpieces for you in a normal booster, if you want it guaranteed to happen more than once, then pay WOTC more money, and it's just an awful thing to think about.
Everyone already mentioned Prof skipped all the Hare Apparents, but I just realized they didn't count the Boltwaves either and I'm pretty sure that card is also over $2...
They also haven't included in the final price count all the 1$ worth cards, that are not much but, 1$ card here and there, maybe would have added up, for each box, 10-15$ of value
I don't know how this is gonna go yet, but foundations is so fun to play with, so as long as the value isn't atrocious it doesn't mean much to me if it fails! Fun game pieces over investments!
@@Lasergurka I'm not really a fan of the way Prof judges these TBH. Like, anything less than about 4 bucks he just straight-up doesn't count most of the time. from an "investment" perspective, sure: do that. But if you're talking PLAYER value, then he's leaving a lot of that on the table, since at minimum he's ignoring around 36 dollars in value for the overall box (given that even your typical commons are around 7-12 cents) just in commons and lower-value uncommons. Watching the video, off the cuff I'd say he got an average of around 4.00 USD per pack if you include all the cards. Which, yes, is barely more than what he paid for either individual box -- again, from an investment perspective, sure, it's bad -- but even the professor said it himself in the video: the value in Foundations isn't in the monetary value of the cards, but its place as, well, a foundation for future sets to build on for the next 5 years. Ideally Foundations SHOULD be incredibly cheap, because that makes it a solid onboarding point going forward.

And people who play the game buy the 10 cent cards. Just because a card is cheap doesn't mean it's not a value staple for play. Again, if you're treating the cards as an investment, then whatever. But if you're looking at the value as a playable product, then there's better value there than these videos tend to imply.

This is the first set where I went green, and my friend had really bad luck with his box. We opened one together, and I pulled 4 of the top 5 hits-everything except the Doubling Season. I felt kind of bad for my buddy 😅. I pulled 7-9 mythics, and he only got one. Plus, I got Sire of Seven Deaths as my promo card in the prerelease, along with a holo Twin Flame Tyrant. Needless to say, this set has been really good to me!
What confuses me about this is that there is no way, even if you opened enough value worth of cards, that you could actually sell those cards for enough money to buy a new box. Most game stores will buy cards for about half the price they’re selling them for.
Prof, remember you are cool and beautiful no matter what buds you have (or don’t have)! Continue shake testing like no one’s watching (your plaques prove that we are)! The amount of cards passed by that I recognize from being money cards in past games was a high number. This means this set is making the game more accessible to newer/part-time/budget players, which is great. On a side note, I think the Foundation beginner’s box may be the best starting point for new players in a physical official product thus far. Tournament packs taught you the hard way how decks word and that you need to fix your 75 card five-color jumble deck to be more focused. Deckbuilder’s toolkit gave you the staples, lands, random packs, and an oversized box for a growing collection. The Beginner’s box has a great box for a growing collection, gives you example decks for straight out of the box play as well as jumpstart packs selected to teach players how to explore with combing colors and themes. With the cost of jumpstart packs as it it, those packs more than pay for the box itself. The ONLY thing I would change is to just throw in a booster. That little extra for personalization to separate your ElfBeast deck from your friend’s ElfBeast deck with some random pulls. Intro decks and precons (non commander) teach how to play a specific deck, but not how to navigate others, where this beginner’s box really does a great job of providing the tools for a more well rounded knowledge base. You and I know what its like to grow up with Tournament packs and suffer at the hands of someone hands of a deck where just a pack or two made the difference. While I enjoy my roots, I feel like this is the best entry option for the masses to date…and I outright love tournament packs.
would love to see some of these types of vids on sets from the last year or so revisited to see the real change in price on cards in sets/collectors sets
As far as standard legal sets go: they're surprisingly stable on a larger scale, but that stems from the chase cards going up and 90% of the set plummeting. --> Even harder to break even with only one or two boxes. Take Tarkov Manor for example. Sets with a strong land cycle usually turn out to become completely centered around them. If you don't manage to get above your average 3-4 surveil lands, the whole box is a complete bust because everything is basically worthless outside of the lands and Delney.
I very well may be alone in wanting this, but you open so may boxes, I'm curious how you store your collection. Outside of deck boxes and binders, how do you prefer to store the random bulk? would you consider making a video about it?
Does anyone remember what the longest run of the booster box game that the prof had? I feel like it was Khans with the fetches. And IIRC he also had a madlad streak of luck with another set.

Doubt Hare Apparents would have saved the boxes but kind of wish they had been included in the count. They fall within the price criteria.

Hey late to the release, just started the video. A few times I got 2 cards on one card with mine. The cuts were so bad the bottom set marker and artist of another card were at the top of my card, and my cards info was missing.
It's the slow Jazz elevator version of the G.I. Joe Theme song for me.
