I gotta be honest with you, this feels more like an opinion piece than a history. You spent so much time talking about your opinion of melee and the sequels, and didn't give the usual "fun facts" that you usually do. I didn't hate it, but I feel like this was just history-lite.

I played melee when I was younger and never really liked it but when I got older I bought me a 3 DS when it first came out play the heck out of Smash and some kid pickpocketed me and run off of my 3 DS the game just happened to also be inside I love that game
Ultimate:the one that people think is the best but said people are in a war with the people who think the youngest is the best child but really nether of the children care
Brawl was the game i grew up with becuase i was born during the wii era. That was like the best game i have ever played and i really love it till this day.

As much as I love this video, I would recommend doing a second one. It's not that it's bad, it just feels more like a "retrospective view of Smash" rather than a brief history video.

I used to follow “A Brief History” back when you were with GT & being honest... this hasn’t been much of a Brief History so much as A Brief “Reminiscence(?)” There was stuff I was looking forward to hear mentioned & hey, maybe even stuff I never knew about the development of Smash. But there wasn’t any of that, just your overall memories of the franchise. Don’t get me wrong I’m not looking to downplay you or anything like that, I just feel this episode has been... weak. That’s all.
I agree. This was the first video I've watched from this channel and I thought it was a waste of time, unfortunately. You can make a reminiscence video about Smash if you want, but please title it accordingly. I expected exactly what you said: development stories, stuff I didn't know about... This video barely contained any information and was not interesting to me.
Nintendo once said that DLC is stupid, and that they would never do it, but wopty do lo and behold almost every first party game for the Switch has DLC. I know that Sakurai is no longer with Nintendo, but rather with his own company, SORA, but the point of this comment is that companies change over time. Also, Kirby has an anime, along with Pokemon and probably more franchises shown in smash, so that could be a possibility , but that's a long stretch. Also, Viridian from VVVVVV would make a great assist trophy, change my mind (I know that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about, but I want it so badly, so I decided to put that opinion in here). I hope you keep this in mind, and thank you for reading to the end of this (you DID, right?).

You could have improved your video by explaining some of the more obscure history of Smash such as - Competitive side outside of just Melee (64, Brawl, Sm4sh) - the long battle between Nintendo and pro players (Melee at EVO) - Smash brothers documentary - Studying and explaining new mechanics and gameplay implementations that were in each game (tripping, wavedashing, L-canceling, DACUS, etc.) and how they shaped each game's metas Also some more obvious things such as: - Character numbers - Statistics for game sales, tournament attendance (EVO), etc. Also, like every other comment says, the video is half history and half personal history. I have no real problems with this style, but look to the possibility of renaming your series.

People hate brawl because of the mechanics that were introduced to scare competitive melee players away from playing the game. So, Brawl gets a bad rap from the competitive community. Nevertheless there’s still a lot of cool tech and tons of content for casual players.

@@demi172 it's a casual game dude it failed in the gameplay aspect. That's the whole point of the game lol. Brawl isn't competitive but it's far from a good multiplayer experience imo. Tripping ruined the game and the slow pace was fairly boring even for casual players. Chaingrabs were with every character so each game you start at like 50% for no reason.
@@demi172 tripping happens a lot, i still play brawl almost everyday in fact and i trip at least ever other match it sometimes even cost me the game. It's fun yeah but imo only in single player cause the mechanics in multiplayer are uninteresting.

I loved brawl it was my first Smash Bros and I had so much fun playing it with my little brother growing up. The adventure mode for the new smash is a little underwhelming for me though :( other than that I love it! (except when my brother plays and keeps electrocuting me as Pichu)

1. Ultimate i really love ultimate i have been no lifing it since release and it’s pretty much the ultimate smash imo 2. Smash 4 So i liked this a lot it was the first smash bros game that i bought in release year and last year i actually thought hey let’s bring my 3ds with me everyday and try playing smash more competitively and it was like playing the game as if it was new i learned all sort of things and became better in the game and really enjoyed replaying it but actually getting better at it 3. Brawl My first smash game... it was loads of fun it was really cool unlocking everyone seeing my friends be ahead of me getting better at it and playing my favorite character of my favorite game at the time kirby it was very fun! Brawl would have been on number 2 if i didn’t replay the game last year more competitively 4. Melee yup this list is from old to new but melee was loved by many but sadly i’m not one of them the point is simple u don’t need to point it out but i just suck at it because my main is kirby and he litterally sucks i could only play pikachu and i played it on a emulator because i don’t have melee neither a usable gamecube but i understand why it is loved by many compared to 64 it was beautiful and the competitive scene is still going to this day 5. Smash 64 i played it.. don’t have more to say than the finishing blow punch is pretty satisfying character models look blocky which makes it kinda funny but i mean these are the n64 character models but it is kinda small compared to smash melee

@Neko52347 The reason people say its not melee is because they love melee and brawl, 4, and ultimate are all sequels. The design shift between brawl and melee was what started the rift with the competitive community by making the game easier, taking away technical skill and adding randomness with things like tripping. Also, melee promotes a more aggressive gameplay making it more exciting for player who could understand what was going on. Also, the competitive scene of brawl was what really sucked for people who enjoyed melee, as although fox was strongest in melee, meta knight literally controlled the meta of brawl. Because brawl was so infuriating, a lot of brawl players switched back to melee and their opinions did not change for smash 4 (being slower and less rewarding for aggressive playstyles). Its not until smash ultimate where really there is a compromise, where techniques became simpler but also promoting aggressive play with some new mechanics. So why do people say "its not melee". It's because these games are supposed to be sequels and for the people who enjoyed watching melee and playing melee as a showcase of skill, they were disappointed when sequels came and took away what they saw as fun to watch and try to do and even go as far to punish people who try to play with a similar playstyle. The cry "its not melee' is less about the quality of the new games and more about how these new games which were supposed to be sequels became entirely new games (a contrast to other fighting games in which sequels keep similar styles of play but usually add new characters combos, some new tech, but not necessarily taking away the feel of the game) But to make matters worse, Nintendo as a company hates melee, or at least it did. In 2013, a charity fundraising campaign was held in which the game that received the most donations (as in when you donate you also choose a game to support, the donations went to support cancer research) would be played on the main stage at EVO, one of the largest fighting game competitions of the year. Melee came out on top and was going to be played at the main stage. A day before the tournament, Nintendo told EVO that they were not allowed to stream melee. Upon this, the community protested against this vehemently and Nintendo backed off. So perhaps another reason for the cry "its not melee" is also a way of saying "its not melee, stop trying to make us leave melee". Just giving a little bit of information because though I do believe too many people could be saying "its not melee" but they do have justification in saying this.
Yea melee is constantly considered the perfect game and it isn't. The game is very broken most of the roster had the same moveset. I grew up to brawl I love brawl! Brawl is the reason why I got into the franchise. My friend bought it for me on my birthday. Melee isn't bad game I love playing it. It's just melee gets such a good reputation that it brings shame to the other sequels they always think of the negative features to them and is melee considered the best and nothing is wrong with that game.That what pisses me off. Brawl brought us so many features that smash still uses today.
Smash 4 was the first one to have online multiplayer really take off. The competitive scene is HUGE for it, even bigger than melee. All those people are switching to ultimate now

People hate brawl because of the mechanics that were introduced to scare competitive melee players away from playing the game. So, Brawl gets a bad rap from the competitive community. Nevertheless there’s still a lot of cool tech and tons of content for casual players.

@@demi172 it's a casual game dude it failed in the gameplay aspect. That's the whole point of the game lol. Brawl isn't competitive but it's far from a good multiplayer experience imo. Tripping ruined the game and the slow pace was fairly boring even for casual players. Chaingrabs were with every character so each game you start at like 50% for no reason.
@@tachi0131 tripping rarely even happens and casual play is about having fun, which people tend to have on Brawl.
@@demi172 tripping happens a lot, i still play brawl almost everyday in fact and i trip at least ever other match it sometimes even cost me the game. It's fun yeah but imo only in single player cause the mechanics in multiplayer are uninteresting.

I loved brawl it was my first Smash Bros and I had so much fun playing it with my little brother growing up. The adventure mode for the new smash is a little underwhelming for me though :( other than that I love it! (except when my brother plays and keeps electrocuting me as Pichu)

1. Ultimate i really love ultimate i have been no lifing it since release and it’s pretty much the ultimate smash imo

Smash 4 So i liked this a lot it was the first smash bros game that i bought in release year and last year i actually thought hey let’s bring my 3ds with me everyday and try playing smash more competitively and it was like playing the game as if it was new i learned all sort of things and became better in the game and really enjoyed replaying it but actually getting better at it

Brawl My first smash game... it was loads of fun it was really cool unlocking everyone seeing my friends be ahead of me getting better at it and playing my favorite character of my favorite game at the time kirby it was very fun! Brawl would have been on number 2 if i didn’t replay the game last year more competitively

Melee yup this list is from old to new but melee was loved by many but sadly i’m not one of them the point is simple u don’t need to point it out but i just suck at it because my main is kirby and he litterally sucks i could only play pikachu and i played it on a emulator because i don’t have melee neither a usable gamecube but i understand why it is loved by many compared to 64 it was beautiful and the competitive scene is still going to this day
5. Smash 64 i played it.. don’t have more to say than the finishing blow punch is pretty satisfying character models look blocky which makes it kinda funny but i mean these are the n64 character models but it is kinda small compared to smash melee

@Neko52347 The reason people say its not melee is because they love melee and brawl, 4, and ultimate are all sequels. The design shift between brawl and melee was what started the rift with the competitive community by making the game easier, taking away technical skill and adding randomness with things like tripping. Also, melee promotes a more aggressive gameplay making it more exciting for player who could understand what was going on. Also, the competitive scene of brawl was what really sucked for people who enjoyed melee, as although fox was strongest in melee, meta knight literally controlled the meta of brawl. Because brawl was so infuriating, a lot of brawl players switched back to melee and their opinions did not change for smash 4 (being slower and less rewarding for aggressive playstyles). Its not until smash ultimate where really there is a compromise, where techniques became simpler but also promoting aggressive play with some new mechanics.
So why do people say "its not melee". It's because these games are supposed to be sequels and for the people who enjoyed watching melee and playing melee as a showcase of skill, they were disappointed when sequels came and took away what they saw as fun to watch and try to do and even go as far to punish people who try to play with a similar playstyle. The cry "its not melee' is less about the quality of the new games and more about how these new games which were supposed to be sequels became entirely new games (a contrast to other fighting games in which sequels keep similar styles of play but usually add new characters combos, some new tech, but not necessarily taking away the feel of the game)
But to make matters worse, Nintendo as a company hates melee, or at least it did. In 2013, a charity fundraising campaign was held in which the game that received the most donations (as in when you donate you also choose a game to support, the donations went to support cancer research) would be played on the main stage at EVO, one of the largest fighting game competitions of the year. Melee came out on top and was going to be played at the main stage. A day before the tournament, Nintendo told EVO that they were not allowed to stream melee. Upon this, the community protested against this vehemently and Nintendo backed off. So perhaps another reason for the cry "its not melee" is also a way of saying "its not melee, stop trying to make us leave melee".
Just giving a little bit of information because though I do believe too many people could be saying "its not melee" but they do have justification in saying this.

Yea melee is constantly considered the perfect game and it isn't. The game is very broken most of the roster had the same moveset. I grew up to brawl I love brawl! Brawl is the reason why I got into the franchise. My friend bought it for me on my birthday. Melee isn't bad game I love playing it. It's just melee gets such a good reputation that it brings shame to the other sequels they always think of the negative features to them and is melee considered the best and nothing is wrong with that game.That what pisses me off. Brawl brought us so many features that smash still uses today.

Smash 4 was the first one to have online multiplayer really take off. The competitive scene is HUGE for it, even bigger than melee. All those people are switching to ultimate now
