I appreciate your description of how Facebook and Instagram are best used and that they don’t really make good use of my time. The best reminder is the title of your podcast “the TURTLE wins the race”! I get caught up in “shiny object” syndrome which is how I’m seeing Facebook and Instagram more and more when I need to stick with the ongoing work for Pinterest and building my email list.

I do enjoy these videos 🐿️I’ve been selling jewelry supplies on Etsy for over 16 years. I stopped looking at the competition over a decade ago because all it did was make me mad. I know what I need to make to stay in business and price my items accordingly. Am I the cheapest? Probably not. Am I more expensive than most? I don’t have a clue. I still do well, make sales, and have repeat customers even though my items aren’t really unique.

You have to keep learning to love yourself and what you do, and move forward with your own goals. As Mel Robbins would say: Let them. BTW: Her podcasts are amazing for entrepreneurs because she teaches you how to love yourself first and get up and do the work. Those that are ahead of us are there to teach us a lesson; they are where you want to be in sales because they did the work while you spent too much time worrying about them and everybody else. 😊 Even the ones that irritate the snot out of you are there to teach you what you should be doing-the work; do the work and you’ll get there, too.

Kara, your wisdom speaks volumes.🙂 You are a treasure to anyone opening an online home based business/ecommerce by sharing on RUclips. I too had a home based business back in the day without all the social media platforms, purchased ads in major distributed magazines, rented booths, haul items to shows, and had a website that required a manager to oversee all the new listings etc. unless you were "really" tech savvy/programer. Thank goodness times have changed! I opened a vintage shop on Etsy a couple years ago and have taken an organic approach this time without all the added stress. Love it! At some point I need to learn more about pinning photos and links on Pinterest and eventually having my own website. I know you've covered that and have ample help videos. Thank you so much Kara!

It's good to be relaxed about the process, I think.

Thank you for this... What a great reminder! I'm guilty of the comparison on occasion. Luckily I'm usually too busy with little kids, a farm, AND my business 🤣 so I really only focus on ME *most of the time* but being in a niche where there is so much variety (vintage books/mixed media/junk journal/collage stuff) the ONLY thing I REALLY worry about is being sure to get stuff that people like. So when I'm hunting and buying, I go based on my taste and customers that seem to like my taste, I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️... I don't buy things based on my competition and their customer base which I think is a big problem with constant comparison... If even a few people like your stuff, more people will come. I started in 2018 and about 6 people bought from me for the first couple of years (consistently) and I had random purchases, too, but now I have dozens of regular customers. This world has so many people... If you're passionate and it shows, your customer base will come

Thank you for this video, Kara! I’m shocked at the amount of copying off of other creators that occurs. I’ve also discovered there are other underhanded things some people do, which I won’t mention because I don’t want to give anyone ideas. I believe creators have more success by creating their own style of items that aren’t copied off of others. IMHO. 😊

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I use Pinterest purely for inspiration. And I'm more likely to buy something if I see it on Instagram rather than Pinterest. For example, someone showing their products on reels etc. But as I say, I might be in the minority.

I don't know, I think that people buy on different platforms and get used to doing it.
