Few things there. I seem to remember in this video I used a Dayco pulley. The brand does matter. In my 1997 E-150 van I have I tried replacing the exactly same idler pulley (it has the same engine as my truck) with a Gates brand pulley. The Gates pulley was not wide enough and the belt did not center on the pulley. End result was a horrible screeching noise. I went and bought another Dayco pulley, problem solved. So if I remember right the Dayco is roughly the same width as the OEM Motorcraft pulley. Hope that helps.
Was the new Ideler wider? Did it hit on the engine. Does that matter?

Have you considered that you maybe drive a space ship?
There are moments, particularly with my van that I think I keep buying Winnebagos with wings...
