Cool guitar Kris, I wish that they would have taken your "design cue" and went with a tele type bridge pick-up to give it a bit of extra spunk but kept the PAF humbucker for the neck pick-up. This would have made it a bit more of a true Les Paul / telecaster crossover.
You gotta wonderful show of guitar's but the les paul is just so full and fat extremely warm it's in a class of it's own..they all sound delicious..great video. 2thumbs up..
Have been tormented for months with Henning's blue version of that. It is a lot like my Ibanez AXD71, but way nicer! 😊👍 Speaking of that hybrid tone have you checked out Gretsch Electromatics? Finally managed to find a G5236, it arrives on Monday 😊
Uhh nice! Congrats on that Gretsch! I know them, those are great! :) Yeah man, these PJDs are really really good. And even the price is absolutely fair for such a high quality boutique guitar... hmm. I shouldn't... I really shouldn't... :D:D
Beautiful guitar and sounds great! I think the tone is the best of both worlds, more LP sounding with more brightness and clarity. Would be interesting to compare it to a LP with a maple neck and ash body to see if you get the same tones. Now that would be an interesting project!
Absolutely gorgeous instrument, and looks damn nice too. I'm working on another computer while listening to you play, and I have to be honest... the first time you cut to your Tele during the tone tests, my head snapped to the screen cause I thought this PJD was capable of making that incredible sound. Turns out, it was your Tele. And for every comparison, I preferred the Tele. And I know, I know... it's a different sound and not everything has to sound like your Tele. I'm just pointing out, that Tele is fucking magic.
Yeah, this tele is my baby, but you know that already. 😁 Still, sometimes I just want a warmer sound, that’s why I love my LP and as a matter of fact the Carey too.
Hey, yeah man, it does have some Junior vibe going on. That’s one of the things I absolutely adore about it. And the finish is lovely to look at and also to hold in your hands. :) You can actually feel the wood. How awesome! Cheers
@@KrisBarocsi ok thanks that was good news. Did not know that when you and Henning maybe others always show that guitar with the f-hole. Great news. Thanks again😃
Haha! Sorry, not sorry! 😂 The Carey is an awesome alternative to a semi-hollow for sure. Well it’s closer to a 339 than to a 335 but still. It has the woodiness, the spank and the dynamics. With some tele-like chime. Ohh boy, it is really good. Haha
Fanos are fantastic. I had the chance to try out 4 of them. Really good guitars! The PJD has one big advantage though: it’s way more affordable than a Fano. And that’s impressive for sure. I mean... it’s still a hand built custom guitar made in the UK. 😲
Kris How are you ? I think this guitar is so fascinating it sounds like the Les paul and telecasters wayward son The tones are just perfect At some point I’ll have to check one of these out Thank you
Hey Paul, I‘m doing great thanks! And you? The Carey is fascinating indeed. It plays more like a tele and sound more like an LP. Just with a spanky and airy tone. So good.
@@KrisBarocsi yes it spanked like an S and M mistress ( oops!) I’m doing ok arthritis responding to treatment and I think ( please Santa) I’m getting a GE 300 for Christmas!! If I ever have that much cash that guitar is for me!!
It’s a cool looking and sounding guitar and I’m very interested in giving one a try. But let’s not pretend that they’re the first or only manufacturer to come up with designs and models to blend traditional Tele as Les Paul features ... there are lots of such models out there, including ones from the likes of Manson, Nik Huber, Fano, Tom Anderson, and even Fender themselves.
Indeed! You’re right about that. What I’ve found unique about this one though (even compared to those other great brands you’ve mentioned) is that it plays like a tele but sounds like a spanky and airy LP. That’s super cool. Aaaand the Carey costs WELL over a 1000€ less than any of the other guitars you were talking about. That’s pretty impressive if you ask me. Cheers
@@KrisBarocsi fair point and thanks for the reply. Although there are certainly Fender “hybrid” option available for much cheaper than this... Manson too if you go for the production ones rather than the “custom shop” limited production ones are a lot cheaper, and even Fano has models at this price point or lower if you go for the still USA made “Standard” range rather than the Alt de Facto ones (here in the UK where they’re made the PJD Carey Elite is £2599 and I could pick up a Fano Standard SP6 for under £2000). To be fair though probably only the Fano ones of the above are truly comparable as far as “quality” is concerned. Nik Huber though... I agree... not really available for the same price point! 😝🤣🤣🤣
My resume: It's more a rock-solid, but rather Les Paul sounding guitar with a very unique look. Soundwise, I'm missing the clarity and "directness" of a real Telecaster. But: no more having fear of neck-breaks. 😉
Very nice thing and playing, Kris! Not my cup of tea (since I'm no LP or Tele guy), but I dig it. :) Just one thing: to me, 2400 Pounds is a LOT. I was expecting it to be around 1000 - 1500 bucks, since you mentioned it doesn't cost too much. But it certainly doesn't look and sound like this "low" price range. So, everything right, I guess. ;) Cheers!
Haha! Well it’s a hand built custom shop instrument and still costs 1300-1400 less than most other custom shop guitars. I mean... you can buy a US strat from the price difference. 😂
@@KrisBarocsi Yeah, I know. But it's still "just" wood and all the hardware, you'll find on less expensive guitars. (But still "expansive" of course!). ;) So, I guess, there is a massive amount of work time for a single human being to build an awesome Tele or LP, but in the end, it's just the same thing as a guitar from the same wood, with the same hardware, but mostly CNC'd, you know? The only difference are the imperfections by hand, concerning the assembly of all components (and of course sanding, finishing, destroying the beautiful finish etc. :DDD). I really don't want to be negative at all! There could be some kind of "mojo" in custom shop relic guitars etc., but... Is a splinter really a beautiful thing? Is it really something, that improves the sound Hm. I'm sure, you will prove me totally wrong... AGAIN!!!! :D So, see that as a KB challenge premium delüxe (ja, das deutsche "Ü", weil warum mach ich mir eigentlich die Mühe, dir auf Englisch zu schreiben?!?! :DDD) Grüße aus dem westlichsten Westen Deutschlands! ;)
Hi Kris - nice video and a very impressive guitar! Sadly not for me, because this beautiful peace of guitar has the Fender scale length of 648 mm. Except for the style of pickups (much more Les Paul than Tele) and the shape of the lower part of the guitar and it’s “waist” which are both clearly much more Les Paul shaped than Tele.
@@davidburke2132 yes it's an LP shape but tele's come with 2 humbuckers as well. when you look at the controls and pickups it screams tele and the control / pickup configuration is the heart of a guitar. to me this is a tele in an LP shape.
@@RJsCave you’re missing my point about the pickups. These pickups are designed to sound like Gibson PAFs. Sure Teles come with humbuckers, but the majority of such are with the Fender Wide Range style humbuckers which are very different sounding. 🤷🏼♂️ I repeat... these pickups are designed to sound like classic Gibson humbuckers, not Fender style humbuckers that you’d find on a Tele. Cool guitar, but you have been able to do this type of thing through Warmoth for years. And I think you tele still sounds the best of all three by far and away.

Very good presentation ! Interesting instrument.
Beautiful inlay work too! Kinda looks like our flying tic tac, if ya look at the ship in infrared anyway, very crisp tones on that axe 👍🏽
