    Great video with detailed explanation, just wondering if we accidentally press the starter button while the engine is already running in stationary idle, what will happen?
    will it engage the starter motor to spin again?
    OR
    the ECU will cut off the ground as it reads the engine is already running so it wont engage the starter motor anymore?
    OR
    the starter motor gear is always rotating all the time while the engine is running so it wont effect eventhough we accidently press the starter button avain while the engine is running?
    i've tried once pressing the starter button while the engine running and it has like friction sound or something like grinding sound or similar...will it damage the starter motor pinion gear, reduction gear, crankshaft gear?
    looking forward to your expert explanation
    Thank You and keep up the good work for more great videos wih very detailed explanation ❤

    So you need the starter motor to work to get your kickstart bike started right?

    I have a zongshen CG 200 which is similar to the one in the video, All of the parts look identical. My problem is my starting motor works I have tested I have pulled off the cover of the alternator. I noticed the wires were a bit burnt none of the reduction gears seem to be damaged the driven gear of the crankshaft/alternator seem to be fine. there was some damaged wires that seem burnt, the connectors linking the alternator to the rectifier are melted/ burnt I replaced those. put back on the alternator cover and tried firing up the engine again but the only thing happens is my starter spins but for some reason it's not turning over the engine I'm not getting a start. do you have any idea what I can do next to troubleshoot this issue?

    Awesome video thanks. Amazing actually. Subbed.
    So is there any chance that a starter motor can become weak? Or is it a case of it either turns the cog or it doesn't?
    I have a Honda hornet which is always a nightmare to start when cold, but runs and starts great as soon as fired up after that first time. I can always hear the starter motor trying.
    No turning of the piston can be heard (from your video I guess that's what that chugging sound is when you can hear a bike is "trying to start" or has almost started - the piston moving up and down).
    It either starts or it doesn't my bike - there is no "almost" starting. Sometimes can take a good 2-3 mins of pressing the start switch.

      If the starter motor can always be heard turning but you don't hear the engine turning over then you must likely have a problem with your starter clutch. I have a video on how starter clutch works as well. But either the rollers are worn in starter clutch or some teeth are broken on the starter clutch driven gear possibly.

    Hello excellent video and explanation…I want to ask you, I discovered on my motorcycle the end of the crankshaft is scratched where the main gear of the starter and the starting clutch press...the starter works normally but the motorcycle rarely starts with it..what do you think? model is honda astrea

    Great video. My starter motor starts my bike ok. But seems to make a whirring sound that it didn’t before. Maybe on its way out. Or could be the starter clutch?

    • @TheMotorcycleMuse
      @TheMotorcycleMuse  3 года назад +1

      Hard to say exactly without hearing it. A change in sound when starting motorcycle is most likely the starter clutch. Not necessarily a bad sign. They do wear over time but unless the motorbike is struggling to start or not starting then I wouldnt worry about it too much. Professional mechanic shop could probably tell you straight away.

    Do you know if I need to drain the oil in order to remove only the Starter Motor from a Suzuki Katana 1997?... It's not starting after winter and I want to check it... (the Starter Relay and Battery seem to be fine)

    • @TheMotorcycleMuse
      @TheMotorcycleMuse  3 года назад

      Starter motors are usually placed on the outside of the motorcycle engine. Shouldn't need to drain any oil.

      I'm afraid I'd have to see it to offer any opinion. If you have pictures then you can ask on a motorcycle forum or a Facebook page. Your local bike shop can always help as well. They're always your best bet if you have one close by.

      There is a starter clutch behind the flywheel that operates when starter gear starts rotating and clutch system stops when starter stops rotating. You ussually see it when you remove the flywheel.
