    I like the idea of manufacturers taking more extreme engines and detuning them for road bikes. Yes it's less power but we don't need 200bhp on the road and then that added reliability and service intervals is great. Keep the balls to the wall bikes for the guys that have silly money or do track days and let us peasants have the same engines but more reliable and more useable on the road.

    Respect for testing in those conditions Lamb Chops.
    For a 'beginner' bike the Trident has a lot going for it. Like the colour and clocks. Husqvarna should take note and put something more like those on their Svartpilen and Vitpilen bikes.
    As you said, you can hear that it's a Triumph a mile away. It has that almost supercharger like whine going on.

  • @Steve-motorcycles
    @Steve-motorcycles 3 года назад +12

    Having rode the MT07 for 30;000+ miles and recently test rode the Trident, I’d have to say the MT07 is much more fun to ride. The CP2 engine outshines the Trident. If you brought either, you wouldn’t be wrong but motorcycles of this type if nothing else, should be fun to ride and reliable, the MT07 is both of those. Do you need riding modes and traction-control on a bike with this power?

    • @paintup46
      @paintup46 3 года назад +2

      Probably. But the mt07 is butt ugly.

    • @martinp1539
      @martinp1539 3 года назад +4

      Mt07 is a worse daily ride commuter and has shit suspension, worse quality and looks like a transformer. Also a triple engine is imo better. The new mt07 is just disappointing. The old one was great and just needed better suspension.
      Also I don't agree the triumph is less reliable. The idea triumphs aren't reliable is a very outdated idea from before their after 2000's reboot. Their quality has been great and servicing easy for years

    • @Steve-motorcycles
      @Steve-motorcycles 3 года назад +3

      @@martinp1539 Lol. Ok that’s your opinion. Cool. You know what they say about opinions, there like arse holes, everyone has one.
      Looks, I may agree, the new MT07 is struggling badly but the Trident is heavier and slower of the mark also the brakes are a weak point. I would advise you ride both.

    • @martinp1539
      @martinp1539 3 года назад

      @@Steve-motorcycles yeah it's just an opinion. Also the brakes on the trident aren't bad at all. They seem lower spec but in practice everyone who rode one in the videos says they hold up great. As far as being slower, i don't think we know that yet. And the trident has more bhp.
      The mt07's looks and lack of improved suspension are simply it's killer though. Also have you seen the weld on the exhaust in its showcase video? Is awful. Even my buddy who wants to buy one says he can make a better looking exhaust in his sleep. So not sure about the quality

    • @martinp1539
      @martinp1539 3 года назад

      @@Steve-motorcycles also I'd like to point out you rode an mt07 extensively but only test rode a trident. That makes i hard to tell what's better because you're heavily used to one thing. Its why I lean towards trusting all the reviewers who rode them cus they have less natural bias there

  • @SPCOOPERR

    Great review LCR! - If this was out in 2014 when I got my MT07 and based on my experience of bikes since, I would definitely go for one of these! I didn't think I liked it on their launch event, but seeing it in the fresh shows the Triumph build quality well.
    It's got to be Triumph's direct rival to the MT07/XSR 700. I went from MT07 at 21yo to Tracer 900 and now Street Triple RX 675.

Nowadays, a Triumph 765R: without doubt, the most flexible motor of the lot, and the sound, with OE zorst is good. The quality of the FireBlade is far higher, and suits me much better - it has instant power and very little vibration. The 650 was great for what it is.. but quality is lower (panel gaps, vibrations etc) and you need revs for it to be fast (more than 7000rpm), however that matches the price of it. That's a stunner and what a great price for a mid range bike. On the money you save you could get a rain visor 🙃

    Am impressed with how well the roost is contained Chopsy, far better than the Street Triple. I have to say, the bike looks far better in your vid than in the promo images I had seen of it. The triple engine configuration is possibly the best engine config for almost all riding. Ace review John.

    Looks and sounds like a fantastic bike and in the video you compare it to the MT07 but I was also wondering how it compares to the XSR 700 . great video as always 👍

    Very good review, experienced rider, nothing relevant was missed here, initially, I would have thought the mto7, with that cross plane engine might have been a comparable choice, but it just isn't. This trident with that chassis and triple engine, seems a step up in class so, is well worth the little extra. 👍

    After hearing all the specs on this, I just felt it was going to be a good machine for its purpose. Its going to be a good seller i should imagine. Unfortunate the rain and damp was with you. But after a hot beverage and change of clothes you still enjoyed the ride. Good on ye.

    Almost a solid 45 horses less? I must say chaps,thats a lot!. It has the same lower end crank? Sounds under stressed. It should last forever . Time will tell. To me I would definitely do a must ride to be considered. Great video Lamb chop.

    Nice real world review MR Chops,far more credible than a bunch of journo's on a freebie hooning around in the sunshine thousands of miles away!
    It'll be interesting to see how it sells compared to the MT 07. Why didn't they just fit the motor into the Gen 3 675 frame & fit the new clocks,lights & lower spec suspension & brakes to that?
    As a Triumph owner (2014 675R) I think they've lost the plot in recent times,to many bells & whistles & Union Jack logo's.I just wish they would produce a good solid basic bike with options to upgrade if you desire,the Trident seems more like a return to the basics.
    Keep up the real world reviews!

    Great review. I have a question. I have an offer from triumph for 1,6k more for the striple r. Both will have quickshifter and same extras. So would you go for the striple r? Seems to me that for 1,6k more I’ll be getting an even better bike. What’s your take?
