      Too much talent on one roster. Smackdown could have been a haven for those guys, but it was already too late. Rock, Austin, Taker, Kane, Angle, Jericho, HHH, Foley, I mean, there was so much talent around. I wish they would have been elevated.

    • @crudecube
      @crudecube Год назад +11

      If they had put them in a faction with Cornette as the manager with the New Midnight Express, the entire roster (Austin, Rock, etc. included) would be doomed and every title would instantly be theirs.
      I cannot stress how cool that would be.

    • @saviorself1164

      They are all ACTUAL badasses, but that isn't enough in the theater that is pro wrestling. Shamrock was the only one who could work the stick, and even he wasn't all that great. They all would have needed a mouthpiece. Plus, they aren't politicians. They walked into WWF, believing that their reputations would be enough to put them on top, and to their detriment, they didn't mess with backstage politics. This is how it works in this business, unfortunately. Being the most skilled isn't going to be enough.

    Steve Blackman seems like an easy guy to push. Here's this martial artist who looks like a scary badass, because he actually is one, and that whole story where he was sick for years and now he's back and looking to make up for lost time is a great story. That story would get people to cheer him and his convincing tough guy persona would also work well as a heel enforcer for a manager. Blackman isn't world title caliber but he would make a good mid-carder or a challenger of the month. The WWE, even when they were doing big business, has always had the problem where they have specific kinds of characters in mind and don't let guys work outside that. The more obvious approach is to play to the talent's strengths. Blackman has some obvious deficiencies but he isn't worthless and someone that isn't stubborn about only doing things a certain way could get some good value out of him.

      Somewhere there's got to be a parallel universe where Blackman, Severn, Shamrock and Kurt Angle had a 4 way for the title at WrestleMania 2000 and the McMahon's were nowhere to be seen, because Turner bought them out in 1998! 😂

    Word was around 1990 (give or take) Blackman had done a couple job matches in the WWF, you can find them here, and was given a contract to wrestle full time in the WWF, but just before he started he asked for a couple weeks to honor a contract he already signed to tour Central Africa. Now the Central African tour, if you ever heard Foley talk about it, was a real shit hole, long trips, low pay if you got paid at all, lots of corruption, disease, and the occasional civil war and genocides, nobody would have blamed Steve if he blew it off and went straight to the WWF. But he chose to honor his commitment and say what you will about him Vince respects people who honor their commitments, so he was given two weeks. That two weeks turned into about six years. While there Steve contracted a severe case of Malaria along with Dysentery from the poor hospital conditions. He knew if he stayed in that hospital any longer he was going to die, so he checked himself out, got to the airport, and got a ticket to ANYWHERE out of Africa, landing in (I think) Amsterdam with a nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane keeping him alive until they got him to the hospital there. It took almost two years to finally get the bugs out of his system, by which time all the jacked-up muscles he had before that had gone and he could barely stand on his own. During his physical rehab he got in to Shotokan Karate and took to it hardcore. Personally, while I think the illness really sucked it kind of helped him in the long run, Muscle-man Steve Blackman wouldn't have made that big an impact in the WWF, he was just more muscle in a crowd of muscle, while Martial Artist Steve Blackman was something new and exciting

    Steve Blackman's Push Kick was an amazing finisher for him, especially as it could come out of nowhere.
    That and when he brought out the Kendo sticks or any weapon really, it was pretty much over for anyone he was facing.
    Steve Blackman had main event potential, but he sadly didn't get pushed there. Even now, Blackman looks the same and is in even better shape than he was then and could still go in the ring.
    It sucks that he never got as great a run in WWF as he should have, I wish they'd invested in him more, because he would have been one of the talents into his 40s still in better shape than a lot of people in their 20s that can still GO in the ring.
