    For those of you who have come to comment that I complain too much at the beginning and need to git gud, I’m not arguing that enemies in the bad tier are bad because they’re hard. I just don’t think most of them are designed in a fun and/or fair way. In fact most of them can be pretty easy with a hit and run strategy, I just don’t think that their cheap moves/methods are commendable. I generally prefer for difficult enemies to have engaging and memorizable movesets like those near the top.

      Bruh, that is literally on *you* .
      If you don’t get it, don’t blame the game.
      I get summoned in these games all the time.
      I get so fed up with the person that summoned me I start dropping items to clue them in on what is wrong, or repeat the same moves over and over again to show them what they should do.
      Most of them ignore me, or think I’m just doing random shit for laughs.
      So it goes to show: Even when someone else is waving the answer directly in front of your face, it doesn’t matter if you’re not *paying attention* .
      Keep that in mind the next time you run straight at an enemy, spam R1, die instantly, then complain that it’s not “fair” or “well-designed”.

      DUDE, COME ON.
      Please consider this carefully.
      this you are in a fearsome prison, within a fallen kingdom, in a dying world.
      jailers can be annoying but they're essential to what makes the dungeon area so terrifying.
      they convey very well the sense of looming terror of that area, the punishment, the torture, the frustration, the end of all hope a prisoner feels.
      this is also the most horror themed area of the game and they have a pivotal role: make you feel powerless.
      even if you're overleveled and with great gear, the jailers can level out your power and make you feel scared of everything again.
      they create a survival horror situation, in which you are heavily punished for rushing in and get detected, forcing you to run and fear any unexpected encounter.
      does this feel like "terrible design" to you?
      Also, they're confined to one area and are pretty frail.
      if you ambush one you can kill it without any risk of it reacting to you.
      they're not difficult to fight at all, they just use attacks you can't defend from in a conventional way.
      and they look pretty cool, too.
      you have all the right to dislike them, but saying they're horrible design and poorly exectuted doesn't make you look very smart.

    i like how cage hollows are the first enemy that teaches you how some enemies dont just have a lot of HP but instead have some strong resistences, trusting attacks deal extremely high damage to the caged hollows since you are poking your weapon through the gaps between the cage bars.
    Also noticed how many enemies in this game had understandable resistences, like how almost all flamable enemies have maggots or slimyness in common, unclothed enemies like lycanthropes or hollows are really weak to bleed or metalic knights being weak to lightning. This was lost in elden ring to me, mainly because of how hard to tell some elements are or the ambiguity of holy damage in general makes you just chug it and deal with enemy resistences.
    In DS3 i remember the classic rules ALWAYS applied and were notizable.
    lightning -> knights and dragons
    dark -> demons of chaos
    fire -> maggots, wood or slimes
    magic -> the neutral element
    strike -> stone and skeletons
    pierce -> enemies with gaps in their protection
    slash/bleed -> naked enemies
    In elden ring i cant remember a single enemy resistence that truly matters aside from Wood and Rot being weak to fire and the undead being weak to holy.

    Some tips for dealing with some of the lower tiered enemies:
    Leeches can be removed with a red moss clump or by holding a torch.
    Rock Lizards, when kicked, do a full roll rotation backwards. Considering most of them are near cliffs, it makes it really easy to keep them far from you while you try to kick them off a cliff.
    Puss of Man will be stunned for 5 seconds if you hit one with a fire attack. Throwing a firebomb is the easiest method. There is going to be a period where they can’t be stunned by fire afterwards (usually the duration of the stun + duration of their follow-up attack), but it’s pretty easy to just dodge their counter and hit them with fire again.
    Hollow Clerics can be kicked onto their backs and attacked on their weak underside. Their spin attack can also be parried, which results in the spinner flipping onto its back.
    Clumps of Flesh are very weak to fire, and weak to the other elements. Smoldering Lake Clumps are just weak to other elements.

    I came across this video while replaying the entirety of ds3 (currently going into the endgame and dlc) and I didn't know I missed ds3 so much as when I first opened the door from the watch tower in High Wall of Lothric. The atmosphere always enthralls me (maybe It's just dumb nostalgia since ds3 was my first souls game).
    Anyways, I very much resonate with your ranking placement. It pretty much sumarises my views on how fun to play against many ds3 enemies are (specially if you can parry them because I'm one of those that likes to parry god everywhere)
    Also I feel the game got a bit tweaked since the last time I played because I swear some ganks got doubled in with more enemies.
    Regardless, thank you for your dedicatiom and your passionate videos. Wish you loads of success but also seize this momentum to take a step back and have fun with what you do, because that's what matters the most, because that is contagious and I feel you're having such a good time making these.

    I like the jailer gank room, my first playthrough I used the chameleon spell to sneak by everything by turning myself into a CHAIR it was hilarious. Also Karla best girl. While some enemies are unfair, at least they make you think of creative ways to defeat them, like weaving in firebombs between attacks or getting a fast-hitting fire-infused weapon for pus of man. Though the angels are just bad game design, they make exploration impossible when exploration is the only way to defeat them. Coupled with a hidden bonfire, that area was the only place in the entire game I had to look up a guide. So annoying.

If the main enemy in the dungeon was another more standard tough enemy where you just hold shield or roll to win, the dungeon just wouldn't feel as oppressive. I don't think any enemy in the game elevates its area as much as the Jailer, and that's wht it's my favorite enemy type in the whole game.

      In terms of Sulyvahn's beasts, I think they are not an enemy that should have been involved in a gank fight. My favorite are pontiff knights. Every other knight feels samey. Slow, beefy, high damage output, fairly predictable moveset, and not very graceful. Pontiff knights tend to travel in packs where one of them is standing at a long distance and harassing the player with projectiles, while the other in engaging in a melee fight with very long combos akin to Pontiff, and masterfully keeping range and avoiding the player (as far as PVE goes). Their ai actually feels like it was programmed differently. Whereas SIlver, Lothric, Ringed, Cathedral knights are all kind of...the same?

Sure, after you know the game they are no threat really, but as a beginner who still has to learn that in this game you cant loose your focus at any times they are just incredibly good, and give so much to the dark and depressing atmosphere of the game, its design makes just so much sense, and gives such a good and unique flavor to the game. Generally speaking i think the Undead Settlement is a highlight of the whole game, because it feels so random and dangerous, the artstyle is unique as hell, the secrets are brilliantly placed and vast, the huge fucker throwing the giant spears is a one of a kind experience, and the npc's are pretty fleshed out and interesting too.

    Mannn I love the Jailers. The health drain is honestly kind of hilarious to me. It just drains so quickly i can only laugh when it happens to me. Plus their design is super cool and fits the area they're in perfectly. If you think about it having a vitality sapping [lamp?] ability would be extremely useful for a Jailer/guard. Any and all violent or fleeing inmates would be done in immediately without offing them; It just fits their purpose in the setting perfectly. Plus, if you're not too greedy you can pull one at a time and just punish tf out of them. The high stakes of fighting them while being only 1 hit from death with no way to heal is totally exhilarating to me. I think they're an A-tier enemy personally, maybe even S-tier. It'd be one thing if the Irithyll Dungeon was super long and, or they had giant health pools but both are not true, their section isn't too long and they go down in a few hits. Basically, I like DS3 better with them than without them. I think they make the game and that section extremely memorable, like absolutely no one forgets the Jailers after a playthrough of DS3.

    -Some enemies will stagger for a second if they hit your shield while blocking. This includes cleaver thralls, dogs/wolves, corvians, dagger-wielding enemies and enemies that have thrusting attacks.

    I feel like I'm one of the only people who thinks thralls (and imps from ER) are good enemies. While rather harmless one-on-one, their ambushes and how they can overwhelm you in groups causes you play more cautiously and be more spatially aware because of their ability to hang off walls and ceilings. I think the imps with their ability to look like lifeless statues and blend in feel like the more refined version of the enemy. Also, their fast attacks with bleed weapons encourage shield use.

    Love when they make the "This is only subjective" disclaimer before trying to dictate when something is good or bad in the objective sense. Gotta have that thin layer of protection when people start criticizing you

    So about the Demon at the smoldering Lake with the Skeletons nearby....I hate to break it to you but that one time I was rushing through I dragged all of the boney bois along the Demon to the lower level and watched the Skeletons kill the Demon for me with numbers to spare too when the dust settled. I was amazed and I didn't even intend to kill the Demon in the first place! that was on NG.

    I'm a huge judicator hater. They'd honestly be a lot better, and perhaps even more memorable if they didn't respawn. Felt so accomplished when I killed the one in the swamp after basically clearing it out only to see it respawn when I rested.

    this video is a great testament to the tremendous quality of enemies in this game that is let down by their absolutely vile placements most of the time. this is probably the game I elect to run past enemies most frequently because I just can't be bothered
