I'm always surprised by how similar the Canadian charts are to ours here in Europe.
Canadian chart is like a mix of US and European chart with Canadian acts sprinkled in.
The fact that I loved all the songs on the canadian contenders (and would definitely include all of them in my top 10 if they made the US year end), it goes to show that even if Canada went through some nonsense and stale progression with the real life situation going on, our music taste still stays consistently great for sure.
Except if this was a US list, Levitating would be on 2020's best list. They're a bit slow up in Canada eh.
Wasn’t Dance Monkey the biggest song of 2020 up there, above Blinding Lights? Yknow, despite The Weeknd being from Canada

When I saw the number 5, I literally screamed: "WOAH!!!". I absolutely love this song (would probably be in my top 3), but I did NOT expect you to place it THAT high!! Easily the best thing he's ever done!
This list is really evidence that 2021 has been a really solid year for hit songs. Great to see Olivia and Lil Nas doing well here.
Firstly, people need to look at the description. Mark acknowledged his mistake. Secondly, I forgot about most of these songs. I didn't listen to a lot of modern music this year! 😅
People on Reddit told me that people who misgender, even accidently, get arrested nowdays - especially when referring to Canadians like Sam Smith. Looks like Mark is spending new year behind bars.

can I say in terms of editing, the way you improved the song panels so the music videos and the titles overlap each other is just perfect. I look at it and go "damn. Take a look at that. Looks good :)"

Could not agree stronger with your #1. I was for sure going into the year that Levitating was gonna be my #1, but damn, Rapstar hit so, so hard for me. Rappers and singers talking about how fame has negatively impacted them is nothing new, but I have a hard time thinking of anyone who made me feel their pain as much as Polo G
I never got the appeal for Rapstar. It's not bad, but just really mediocre.

Save Your Tears is overrated, but good list otherwise.
I don't like Willow. Taylor's voice on the chorus is really grating.
I expected 'Leave The Door Open' to take #1 in this list, but I'm happy that 'Rapstar' took the top spot & Olivia appears inside the Top 10 twice. :)
I'm glad I'm not the only person who likes "No More Parties". The production is low-key trap mixed with pianos but I think it sounds nice and Coi Leray's Playboi Carti-like delievery worked for me. 👍
*Edit:* Also, I'm already enjoying "Get Into It (Yuh)" more even though it also has that Playboi Carti influence.

Even though I knew your opinions on each of them, the # 1 for both of your lists this year were surprising.
The thing about this decade's music for me personally was how my favorite song in general of the year didn't make the Year-End, but the fact that my favorite "hit" song of the year was also the biggest one made up for it. Best use of a monkey's paw ever!

I'm glad someone finally gives Rapstar the recognition it deserves
Calling the guitars on the second half of "Happier Than Ever" absolute garbage is a bit harsh in my opinion. It's one of my favorite songs of this year if only because I was so surprised at how hard the song shifts into a raw and brutal mess where Billie Eilish can't hold herself back anymore and completely loses it once the second half of the song kicks in. Nevertheless, I respect how you justify what some may consider to be unorthodox picks for your list, and I'm not here to tell anyone what songs should or shouldn't have been on their lists.
Seeing Lil Nas X on the thumbnail just looking at me with those eyes staring me down with his energy is making my day.

Yeah. I admit it that why I really love this and its way better than "Butter" and "Permission To Dance" IMHO. Not a fan of both of these bands despite I like some of their songs of both bands but I feel their production is dreamy on how this collab is awesome is. Also, I put "Butter" as my Dishonorable Mention since I have a mixed reactions towards the production and its mass-buying controversy and I trust Mark for good.

Lists like this are why Mark is still my favorite reviewer on the platform. No pretense of sophistication or objectivism, but always reminding us that music is meant to create different emotional reactions. In an internet circle where you can be destroyed for praising a "bad" album or song (see: Tickets to my Downfall) or criticizing a "good" album or song (see: DONDA), Mark remains proudly himself and it's honestly inspiring. I fist pumped the air when My Ex's Best Friend made the list, that's how much I loved this ranking.

Tickets to my Downfall was a great album from MGK, and the Album Video was really good.
Downfalls High was a pretty interesting video. Not to mention Lil Huddy of all people actually pulled it off as the lead role. But Sydney Sweeney & Maggie Lindemann were the best.

Great list, the year had 2-3 awesome songs and a bunch of other great songs so can't complain too much about 2021. Just wish it wasn't so full of crap at the bottom though.

Good list, my opinions on songs here are:
HM's:
1-good track, surprised it become a hit, but pleasantly so
2-the most overhated rapper of the year (I still yet to hear good reason why she's bad, and not for lack of searching) and song's alright
3-don't care too much for this one, unfortunately, just something doesn't quite click for me with it. Not sure what
4-pretty good, my favorite things about it are Jack Harlow and music video
5-this one's solid, but I really hope that Rod Wave's music gets a bit more diverse and less fragmented sooner than later
6-solid track, like it more than any of her hits from her last album
7-gorgeous production, when we will get new SZA album? We waiting

4-I...don't care about this one, at all. It reminds me a lot of Riot era Paramore and I just never liked Paramore, so yeah, this song had uphill battle with me from the getgo
3-it's a bop, I dig it. MGK never make good album again and TTMD was a fluke and should have more hits (like, seriously, Forget Me Too was robbed), but regardless, this one's good
2-smooth af. And album its from is one of the best of the year.
1-yeah I like this one, certainly one of the better Polo G cuts, but like with Rod Wave, I hope he gets a bit more diverse in production department and stops flooding the market so much

It and Left At London's "there is a place for you here." were the only two songs that brought me to tears this year... just... good, strong cries to get everything out... I used to agree with your lists a lot more but it feels like they're a lot more personally influenced in the last couple of years, which is fine, just means I don't agree with them as much. For example the top 3 songs are all pretty good to me but seem like very weird choices for the best of a year. Songs like Drivers license, Starting over and Good days hit way, way harder for me.

Rapstar is boring imo. Polo G has a very boring flow and he barely changes it throughout the song. Chorus and verses sound almost the exact same in terms of intensity. Would have been nowhere near my best list let alone at #1
