Stephen Graham Jones really is a master storyteller. A lot of his works end up somewhat polarizing because he doesn't write in a prose that is comfortable for a lot of people to read, and they don't always follow the structure you would expect from a book. He has a unique voice and very clearly is a huge lover of horror (slashers in particular), and I'm happy you're enjoying his work.

I feel like I'm missing something, I didn't find this book to be that intriguing. I knew pretty early on that Sawyer was just hallucinating and the moment I knew it was just all in his mind was when he mentioned Manny was growing, that was just crazy talk with no reason. I could have accepted a supernatural thing with Manny being alive but that was just dumb, it told me this was a psychotic break. Would have hated if it did turn out to be a supernatural thing, but luckily it was all in Sawyer's mind. It went over the top and from that moment I was reading the book knowing Sawyer was just psychotic and was projecting it into Manny but still expected an explanation of how Manny got up. I don't think the book relies on you not being sure about everything to be entertaining and I did like the book for what it is. I just don't see it as a puzzle to figure out like you did.

Samee. The part where manny is so huge that he can just stomp a person to death and he keeps growing just cemented it for me that there’s no manny. There was so much nonsensical speculation and he obv was just finding excuses of murdering his best friends. I read most of it expecting sawyer to be psychotic. But this video did make the book a lil more intriguing to me.

Part of it, i think, is finding what really happened throughout the book. Some things are easy to figure out but the timeline, the breaking point for Sawyer, and what happened to shanna is left mostly ambiguous.

Yess I was already super excited for this video after watching the one on the other channel!
Night of the mannequin is not for everyone but I love the way the mystery was written and you put it into words perfectly! The clues scattered throughout the book pointing you to the answer, but only if you pay actual attention to them, were the best! I love it when mystery novels do that!! I had a similar experience with the Thriller “I am Death” by Chris Carter so I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for that!

Those clues were… pretty difficult to find in the audiobook version. I need to reread this!!

Thanks for making videos on lesser known books. When you said how much you liked it in another video I picked it up. While it doesn't hit me the same way it does you, it was a well told story and I appreciate your analysis.
Looking forward to your video on Something Wicked This Way Comes! One of the great classic fall reads.

Oooh, want to read that! The only thing I've read by Stephen Graham Jones is the intro to the Never Whistle at Night anthology that just came out. Excellent intro, can't wait to dive into his work. I will be back to watch... got to read the book first though :)

Loved this book~ picked up based on your excitement in reading vlog
I plan to re-read tomorrow b/c listened to on audio while working on a project and missed 1 or 2 clues you mentioned. I did catch the main plot but did miss a couple small things
I think perfect length to read in 1 sitting & re-read shortly after to see story once you know what to expect

From what you said in the last vid, this book sounds amazing. Actually reminds me a bit of SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK. Can't watch the vid yet though for fear of spoiling the book lol. I shall have to watch this after I have finished reading 🤔

I always confuse Stephen Graham Jones with Graham Joyce. I did read Demon Theory and liked it a lot.
