oh my gosh you did your HOMEWORK for this video look at all of this reading and editing braVO thank you for including me and i'm so honoured to hear you say my video inspired this absolute CREATION yesss that's what i loved so much about tinfoil butterfly - such strong themes and characters. the spooky setting is unsettling at times but it was just so much more than a spooky book - SO GOOD!
I love Stolen Tongues! It has so many super creepy moments but the ending is just so lacklustre. The trouble is it began life as a reddit post on like creepypasta or something. So the author turned his real life fiances night terrors into a creepy story and wrote it from his own perspective, so that's why it's written from an outsider rather than from the person it's actually happening to. I would still reread it in a heartbeat and I still think it's the book that's genuinely creeped me out the most, but it's not perfect and I think it's origins are why.
True - sometimes creepypasta and NoSleep/reddit stories can vary in quality, but there's some that are popular and/or are surprisingly well-written (Penpal is another great one, along with The Showers and The Russian Sleep Experiment). There's also some others that are debatably good, but are going to need some transparent trigger-warnings attached to them because they involve disturbing content like SA (such as Borrasca, The Black Farm, and Tommy Taffy).
Stolen tongues freaked me out, especially the prologue, but I truly do not remember most of the story but it was effective and the emotions have stuck with me.
Really enjoying this video :) I think it's important to point out for Moon of the Crusted Snow is that, even though the town itself is fictional, the historical context of why that town exists is not fictional (ie the Canadian government actually did force indigenous people all over Canada into Reserve land and does not provide them with the resources to sustain these towns). I also enjoyed Moon of The Crusted Snow so it's good to see other people talking about it :)
the og stolen tongues had me so scared at 2am that i had to call my fiancé over and over until he woke up so that he could escort me to the restroom and then to bed 😭 i tried the novel audiobook version and the additional fluff kinda took me out of the atmosphere :/ i’ll try again reading it on my own
This reading vlog was so well done I thought you were one of those super popular booktubers - no questions asked, so every time you mention "booktubers" i think, but she's a booktuber too? How do you only have 2k subscribers!!!! You deserve moooooore!
This video is so well done and finally I found a booktuber with the same overall vibe and looks for similar things in books!!! Thanks for helping me add to my TBR!
aaah thank you for featuring me in this video! i’ve only just discovered the mentions tab on youtube so i’m sorry that it’s so late 🫣 i also disliked night of mannequins, i hated the direction it went in and i just wanted scary mannequins goddammit!!! so glad that you found stolen tongues as creepy as me!! i agree that i didn’t love the story itself but the scariness was sooooo effective. loved this whole video and you’ve convinced me to check out when the reckoning comes and i’ve subscribed 🥰
omg I’m glad you enjoyed it!! I hope you love where the reckoning comes, it wound up being in my top 10 of last year 😍 (and that’s ok on the lateness clearly I don’t respond to comments for 3+ weeks lol)
Best of luck with your channel. Youre doing a great job- you are a natural in front of the camera and i really enjoy that you refer to so many books in one single video. These are the greatest kinds of vlogs/ book reviews etc. I cant wait to dig into these. Cheers.
Random fact: The Netflix movie No One Gets Out Alive used the book for its source material and in the movie they make a reference to The Ritual which is also a Netflix movie that used an Adam Nevill book as the source material.
I didn't know they did a movie for No One Gets Out Alive! I kind of loved the Ritual movie, I haven't read the book though - love myself a good random bookish fact
Absolutely loved this. Excellent job! Stolen Tongues is one of my favourites. If you want a horror manga, may I recommend PTSD Radio. My all time favourite.
I haven't read The Patient (as a book) so I don't know if I'm right, but I'm pretty sure it started like as a Reddit post, which is why it feels like someone posted about it on the internet. All I know is that I read an r/nosleep post called The Patient years ago and the plot sounded exactly the same.
Here's 2 suggestions: The Terror by Dan Simmons is the CREEPIEST HISTORICAL FICTION that I wasn't expecting to scare me! Hell House by Richard Matteson and I strongly recommend that you give the novel and the graphic novel they made about Hell House too! The graphic novel does NOT disappoint in scaring the fuck out of you!
Thanks for the rec for The Silent Companions that you reference at the beginning. I checked it out as an ebook after watching your gothic reads vid and it was the spooky book I’ve been looking for this season! Much more my vibe since I am not a horror reader in general and I could not put it down! Have already recommended it to a friend and returned it to the library so she can check it out 😊 Definitely picking up some of these to try, When The Reckoning Comes has been on my TBR since Kayla talked about it and now it’s moved to the top of my list. Do more of these, maybe different genres if you want to venture out, who knows?
this is so fun!! I'm trying to get into horror more not just during spooky season but all seasons, so this is a great help in choosing what I want to read next :)
This was a really detailed video, great work! 👏 Listened whilst sanding a room 😂 Im looking forward to trying out "stolen tongues" first for the pure fear factor, love the premise of the story
My 'spoopy' October had all horror books too! Baby Teeth - Zoje Stage. Stolen Tongues (felt same). I Found Puppets - Ben Farthing (fav one!!!). Her Little Flowers, Head Full of Ghosts, E13, Meddling Kids, We Sold Our Souls, Pearl (another fav!), Nothing but blackened teeth, Motherthing
I read Tender is the Flesh over a year ago, and I STILL think about it every now and then. Definitely more disturbing than scary, but such a good read. That author just released an English translation of a short story collection as well called Nineteen Claws and a Blackbird, which is SO good. Edit: I'm at your review of this currently and part of me almost wonders if the disconnect may have something to do with the fact that it is a translation. I've noticed with a lot of translated works, the tone does come across as slightly disconnected.
Also I feel the same about Night of the Mannequins. I was pretty disappointed, however I LOVED SGJ's books The Only Good Indians, Mongrels, and My Heart is a Chainsaw. I haven't read his sequel to Chainsaw yet, but the other three are so good and fun to read.
You're probably right about the translation aspect! That is something I notice with other translated books too and I genuinely just didn't think about that - i agree it's a book I really enjoy thinking and talking about. And dude I LOVED My Heart is a Chainsaw, and The Only Good Indians is at the top of my TBR, so I was very sad about Night of the Mannequins
Glad to discover your channel and hear your take on these books. I cannot handle Tender is the Flesh..respect to anyone who can! The best horror book I’ve read this year is Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie. You mentioned messed up children, it’s got those. The author managed to create a world where he thought of so much in 350 pages and every chapter felt important. I just love the perspectives he chose, even one character is a trash collector and that gave us access to this world that helped show so much. I’ve seen some reviews that they wouldn’t do what the parents did. As a parent I can say yes you would, you absolutely would. People take away different things from books, but that desperation might be the ultimate horror in the book to me. As you can tell I just wish everyone would read and enjoy this book. 😊 I loved When the Reckoning Comes…I’ve already decided it’s required reading for my son when he gets a bit older (because of the gruesome scenes). But the thoughts through the main characters eyes about the plantation, horrific.
You definitely sold the book to me!! Added to my TBR ☺️ honestly Tender is the Flesh was a lot idk if I’d pick it up again even though it is so thought-provoking
I just read The Patient and it was really good! if you wanna read stuff that’s super psychologically unsettling, Confessions by Kanae Minato, The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters, and Last to Leave the Room by Caitlin Starling are my new faves.
honestly, I'd read the original No Sleep reddit story ages ago that ended up being expanded on to become Stolen Tongues and your review is reminding me why I should just leave it at the reddit story and not give the longer version a shot. good for felix for getting a book deal from his very popular r/NoSleep entry, but im good lol great video!
Stolen Tongues actually disquieted me in my own home. All of it-including the ending-was phenomenal. Have you read Josh Malerman’s INCIDENTS AROUND THE HOUSE? That book DID actually scare me. Like, I was scared. Because of the book.
“Tender Is The Flesh”, I haven’t read that one, but I know it’s very similar to “Meat” by Joseph D’Lacy which was published in 2008. I gotta say, absolutely vile. It didn’t turn me off of eating meat, but I certainly struggled with my conscious while eating red meat I did LOVE “The Hallow Places”
Oh my goodness, I LOVE your vibe! Definitely got a new subbie right here. I, too, do book content on my channel! I'm deffo going on a watching binge 😌 thank you for this video. Now I have got even MORE books to add to my tbr... 😅🤩
I don’t think I would have enjoyed stolen tongues as much as I did if I had read it physically instead of listening to the audiobook! I work 2nd shift so I get off work at 10pm, and I mainly listened to it on my drive home so it was maximum spookiness lol
I just finished The Hollow Places. One of my all time favourite horror books is "The Willows" by Algernon Blackwood (No not."woody" morewood as per the hollow places lol), so it was a suprise to start reading this and see its essentially an unofficial sequel 😂 Seriously though, The Willows is the OG version of this book and so so much better. It's pretty short as well. Please add it to your ever growing TBR list! (Worth mentioning Kingfisher's style seems like it's not for me personally - the modern slightly cheesy/comedic way of presenting the story - I read the whole way through though.)
Very happy for you that this Video got you so many new viewers 😊 I'm definetly picking up Tinfoil Butterfly! If you're up for something scary again I'd recommend The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling and Echo by Thomas Olde Heuvelt (both some of my all time faves). The Luminous Dead is a scifi horror blend with an incredible tense athmosphere and Echo is kinda similar to Stolen Tongues premise where this guy is in a terrible mountain climbing accident and his boyfriend is trying to help him through the trauma but quickly realises there's something very wrong with his partner. Both reads are not for everyone but they're absolutly worth a try!
You’re so sweet thank you!! I hope you like Tinfoil Butterfly it was sooo good Funnily enough The Luminous Dead popped up while I was going through booktubers for this video and it sounded so interesting! Thank you for the recommendations I’ll definitely check them out 🖤
Tender is the Flesh was absolutely nasty but I also didn’t really feel scared listening to the audiobook. I just felt yucky 😅 but if you want one that’s disturbing without the meats and body horror but enjoyed being unsettled, Confessions by Kanae Minato is amazing. I listened to that one’s audiobook and it was a total psychologically disturbing experience
I found your channel and I am really interested in your recommendations for horror!!! Totally awesome to see your vlog too. Great entertaining video! 😊
Stolen Tongues is my favorite book ever! Read it twice and got terrified in both lol then i've read The Church Beneath the Roots wich is kind of Tíwé's story and explains why he knows so much about the creature. Is also very scary and much more gore.
This video got me to subscribe!!! Love how you talk about books and how they make you feel. Not just say it was good 5 stars go read it lol like some others do☺️
The way I was creeped out by the intro music lol, the way I could never be a horror reader 🤣🤣🤣 I love the video compilation of booktubers explaining the books!!! When The Reckoning Comes is the one horror book that has always peaked my interest but I think I'm too much of a scaredy cat to read 😅 GRAVITY FALLS FOR ADULTS WHY A I ABOUT TO SPRINT TO THE BOOKSTORE???? Nope never mind I need to sleep lol. I was hoping for a spoiler review for The Patient because now I want to know 😅 I'm a sleeptalker too so that's creepy to think about 😅
I was suuuper underwhelmed by Tender is The Flesh. Maybe i need to reread it but i got major vegan preachy vibes and then when i looked up the author, i was correct. Even the slaughterhouse scene didn't do much for me but maybe I was having trouble in general picturing things. The character also felt so flat and grey, but that was probably the point...it was just a big miss
SAME. I felt like I had to work to care about it and that just isn’t how I like to engage in books. I didn’t know that about the author but honestly *unsurprising* lol
@00:42:42 Arent the 9 days a nod to the circles of hell? 42: " number.... given by a supercomputer to 'the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.' "
Just found your amazing channel and looking forward to seeing what horror books 📚 you love to read as I am a horror fan so prayers and blessings to you and your family love your Aussie family friend John 🖤💜💙🖤💜💙
Not horror, but the last book that literally terrified me was I'll be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara. I highly suggest you give it a whirl!! And I LOVED Gravity Falls and LOVE T. Kingfisher.
Dude that McNamara book sounds actually terrifying * adds to TBR * I haven’t had a miss with Kingfisher’s books yet and I’m definitely getting up there in how many I’ve read - super excited for the one that just came out!
Hi, I absolutely loved this video. I have Tender Is The Flesh on my TBR but not read it yet. I picked it up because of What Victoria Read. She is a U.K. book tuber and rates the book as one of the best she has ever read. Thank you x
i understand the criticism that it was about felix, instead of faye. But, i think that was really effective insofar as, if it was about faye, we'd need all the background about when she'd been to the cabin and what becca had to do with it and the fact that she'd seen the imposter before, etc. Like, in this instance, the part that made it really scary, was the fact that felix had absolutely no insight to what was going on. He only had tid bits and was going off random assumptions just to try and make everything better. Faye's experience was horrifying, for sure, but part of the horror in the book was that felix didn't even know if he was living with *faye* half of the time. I would love an alternate pov of course cause faye's experience was absolutely more terrifying than felix's. However, i think stolen tounges was written in felix's perspective so there was that added horror element of everyone being unreliable (either because theyre known to lie (faye's mom), they dont have the full information (felix), or they may not be themselves (faye)).
I absolutely agree with that analysis, and I bet if I read the book and reviewed it now I would likely have different opinions on the book's structure and why I didn't vibe with it as much as I wanted to.
I definitely don’t mention it in the video so you didn’t miss it! I have always been interested in the story since it’s such a popular reference and decided to watch the movie first, and the visuals actually upset me so much for some reason that I’m scared of the book and just took it off my TBR and never thought about it again 😂
I am so in love with audiobooks tbh I wouldn’t have read half as many books last year without them And the Exorcist House has been on my TBR for awhile but I kind of forgot about it! I’ll have to bump it up 👀
If you haven’t listened to it yet, I really enjoyed the Exorcist read by William Peter Blaty. More authors need to read their own books, it was so enjoyable.
Next time I would put the part of you reading/talking about the book right after you introduce it and show the clips of others who read it instead of having a huge chunk at the beginning just being introducing rhe books
Ok I’m going to be the person late to the party. What are Booktubers and how do I see their videos. I downloaded an app called Booktube but I can’t seem to watch any videos.
Booktubers are RUclipsrs who’s content centers around books and reading! They are a kind of community on RUclips, I think searching for “booktube” or book reviews on RUclips should bring up some channels!
I strongly disliked the silent companions. It bored me. Check out the Village by Camilla Stein. Also check out the novella part 1 of The Forgotten and the Damned.
“Because I’m actually a middle aged woman in a 20 yr olds body”
RELATE TO THAT with passion. lol
I love this!!!!!
OMG THANKS
oh my gosh you did your HOMEWORK for this video look at all of this reading and editing braVO
thank you for including me and i'm so honoured to hear you say my video inspired this absolute CREATION
yesss that's what i loved so much about tinfoil butterfly - such strong themes and characters. the spooky setting is unsettling at times but it was just so much more than a spooky book - SO GOOD!
OMG THANK YOU THATS SO SWEET 🥺🖤 and yes Tinfoil Butterfly was completely unlike anything I’ve read before, absolutely a top tier book
I would still reread it in a heartbeat and I still think it's the book that's genuinely creeped me out the most, but it's not perfect and I think it's origins are why.
ohhhhh I did not know that! That's so interesting! That makes a lot more sense then lol
Ahhh what a fun video I love this!! I loved seeing your reactions to When the Reckoning Comes and Stolen Tongues!! 👏 thanks for including me in this!
Omg you’re so welcome!!
Stolen tongues freaked me out, especially the prologue, but I truly do not remember most of the story but it was effective and the emotions have stuck with me.
definitely one of the scariest books (if not absolutely the scariest book) I've ever read
You are so articulate and confident that when you said you are 20 years of age, I nearly fell off my chair! Really enjoyed this, Bells.👌
Hahaha that’s kind of a lie tbh I’m 25 but I’ll take the compliment 😉 I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 🖤
Ahhh I remember reading the OG post on NoSleep of Stolen Tongues - I had no idea it was made into a whole novel!
the og stolen tongues had me so scared at 2am that i had to call my fiancé over and over until he woke up so that he could escort me to the restroom and then to bed 😭 i tried the novel audiobook version and the additional fluff kinda took me out of the atmosphere :/ i’ll try again reading it on my own
I absolutely loved "Stolen Tongues" and "The Hollow Places" and after your video I'm excited to check out "When the Reckoning comes"
I hope you love it!!
So goodnight stolen tongues freaked me OUT but also The Patient DID start off as a creepy pasta Reddit story so it’s funny you mentioned that lol.
Oh interesting I had no idea about The Patient actually starting that way!
This reading vlog was so well done I thought you were one of those super popular booktubers - no questions asked, so every time you mention "booktubers" i think, but she's a booktuber too? How do you only have 2k subscribers!!!! You deserve moooooore!
As a Stephanie, I’m not sure if I should be offended or honored at all of the namesake characters….
lmao
This video is so well done and finally I found a booktuber with the same overall vibe and looks for similar things in books!!! Thanks for helping me add to my TBR!
Lmao the gravity falls reference was hilarious!!!! ❤
aaah thank you for featuring me in this video! i’ve only just discovered the mentions tab on youtube so i’m sorry that it’s so late 🫣
i also disliked night of mannequins, i hated the direction it went in and i just wanted scary mannequins goddammit!!!
so glad that you found stolen tongues as creepy as me!! i agree that i didn’t love the story itself but the scariness was sooooo effective.
loved this whole video and you’ve convinced me to check out when the reckoning comes and i’ve subscribed 🥰
omg I’m glad you enjoyed it!! I hope you love where the reckoning comes, it wound up being in my top 10 of last year 😍
(and that’s ok on the lateness clearly I don’t respond to comments for 3+ weeks lol)
Actually The Castle of Otranto is considered the first horror novel (1765), where as The Monk is 1796
I absolutely loved Stolen Tongues! Ending wasn’t my favorite, but the scares are perfect
OMG SUCH A FUN CONCEPT!! And that first red top look so good on you btw
omg you're so sweet
Best of luck with your channel. Youre doing a great job- you are a natural in front of the camera and i really enjoy that you refer to so many books in one single video. These are the greatest kinds of vlogs/ book reviews etc.

I’m really intrigued by the patient

This was a really detailed video, great work! 👏 Listened whilst sanding a room 😂
Im looking forward to trying out "stolen tongues" first for the pure fear factor, love the premise of the story

Ooh so many good ones here! Meddling Kids was a lot of fun. I’ll have to look into some of these ☺️
Thank you for all these great recommendations ❤
Your facial reactions reading stolen tongues was killing me 😂😂😂
I read Tender is the Flesh over a year ago, and I STILL think about it every now and then. Definitely more disturbing than scary, but such a good read. That author just released an English translation of a short story collection as well called Nineteen Claws and a Blackbird, which is SO good.

And dude I LOVED My Heart is a Chainsaw, and The Only Good Indians is at the top of my TBR, so I was very sad about Night of the Mannequins
Stolen tongues is super terrifying.
Stolen Tongues is fantastic, The Hollow Places is really really good, I really want to take the dive into Tender is the Flesh
Tender is the Flesh is worth the read for the commentary 100%! Just plan to eat vegetarian for a week 😉
Yes me too!! I would totally watch another video from you. You did great!
I totally ADORED this video of yours. New subscriber. A lot of those were already on my tbr but found a few new ones :)
Ahh thank you! I’m so glad you found a couple new ones to try ☺️
Glad to discover your channel and hear your take on these books. I cannot handle Tender is the Flesh..respect to anyone who can!

Thanks for doing this. What a fun video!
I just read The Patient and it was really good! if you wanna read stuff that’s super psychologically unsettling, Confessions by Kanae Minato, The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters, and Last to Leave the Room by Caitlin Starling are my new faves.
you know what I have been meaning to read a Sarah Waters book for ages this might be a great excuse for me to finally do that
honestly, I'd read the original No Sleep reddit story ages ago that ended up being expanded on to become Stolen Tongues and your review is reminding me why I should just leave it at the reddit story and not give the longer version a shot. good for felix for getting a book deal from his very popular r/NoSleep entry, but im good lol
great video!
I’m always happy to see indie authors have their books get popular, but yeah I’m curious how the original Reddit story holds up to the novel
Totally agree TITF isn’t “scary”, to me it’s haunting and kind of just sticks with you. Took me weeks to eat meat 🙈
I agree it’s not really a “story”!
Stolen Tongues actually disquieted me in my own home. All of it-including the ending-was phenomenal.
Have you read Josh Malerman’s INCIDENTS AROUND THE HOUSE? That book DID actually scare me. Like, I was scared. Because of the book.
Someone else recommended Incidents Around the House too! I guess I know what I'm reading this winter.
Well done, I’m looking for some spooky October reads, subscription well deserved.
“Tender Is The Flesh”, I haven’t read that one, but I know it’s very similar to “Meat” by Joseph D’Lacy which was published in 2008. I gotta say, absolutely vile. It didn’t turn me off of eating meat, but I certainly struggled with my conscious while eating red meat
I did LOVE “The Hallow Places”
I liked stolen tongues, it gave me a couple shivers and it was fun to read, but it went a little to hard to fast for me
This was so freaking good, this is such a fun concept and I can tell that this was fun for you
Wow you put a lot of effort into this video! Nice! Loved it.
Haha omg thank you
tinfoil butterfly !!!!! that book BROKE me, so fantastic
Oh my goodness, I LOVE your vibe! Definitely got a new subbie right here. I, too, do book content on my channel! I'm deffo going on a watching binge 😌 thank you for this video. Now I have got even MORE books to add to my tbr... 😅🤩
omg you're the sweetest 🖤 i checked out your channel and i see a gothics video 👀👀 *adds to watch later list*
I just found your channel and I LOVED the concept of this video!

Funnily enough The Luminous Dead popped up while I was going through booktubers for this video and it sounded so interesting! Thank you for the recommendations I’ll definitely check them out 🖤
Omg I’m loving your intro 😍 just found your channel and I recently read the shining and loved it, we have similar horror tastes.
Thank you! Love having similar horror tastes 💁🏻♀️
Tender is the Flesh was absolutely nasty but I also didn’t really feel scared listening to the audiobook. I just felt yucky 😅 but if you want one that’s disturbing without the meats and body horror but enjoyed being unsettled, Confessions by Kanae Minato is amazing. I listened to that one’s audiobook and it was a total psychologically disturbing experience
ooh you're the second person to recommend Confessions! I'll definitely look into it cause yeah TITF is just gross, but I love being unsettled
Have you ever read Jeremy Ray short horror? I think he’s excellent, and they truly are very short, and also includes micro stories in the beginning
Quality content! Would love to see more videos like this. 😊
Thank you! I’ve got some ideas in the works 😉
WHAT I did not know Tíwé got his own book that's so freaking exciting - that was the best part of Stolen Tongues
I was hoping for a spoiler review for The Patient because now I want to know 😅 I'm a sleeptalker too so that's creepy to think about 😅
Thank you for all your work!!! Im so excited to start reading them ❤❤❤❤
That intro was *chefs kiss*
What blush do you use? It's so nice! Loved the video thank you! Sending love from Ireland ❤
I use the Benefit coralista blush! It’s been my go-to since I was like 14 lol
@@itsbells thank you! ❤️
Absolutely loved this video and added a few of the mentioned books to my kindle
I was suuuper underwhelmed by Tender is The Flesh. Maybe i need to reread it but i got major vegan preachy vibes and then when i looked up the author, i was correct. Even the slaughterhouse scene didn't do much for me but maybe I was having trouble in general picturing things. The character also felt so flat and grey, but that was probably the point...it was just a big miss
SAME. I felt like I had to work to care about it and that just isn’t how I like to engage in books. I didn’t know that about the author but honestly *unsurprising* lol
@00:42:42
Arent the 9 days a nod to the circles of hell?
42:
" number.... given by a supercomputer to 'the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.' "
… you’re absolutely right I can’t believe I didn’t think of that 🙃
Just found your amazing channel and looking forward to seeing what horror books 📚 you love to read as I am a horror fan so prayers and blessings to you and your family love your Aussie family friend John 🖤💜💙🖤💜💙
i added almost all of these to my tbr thanks for the recs😂🤪
OOOOhHH this is going to be great!
Incidents ARound The House by Josh Malerman is the first book that legit scared me in a looooong time (since House of Leaves)
I DNFed Night of the Mannequins. It was just too wacky couldn’t get into it
Tender is the flesh...YES! it's fully disturbing. The shining? Not very horror
American psycho is the only book to genuinely make me nauseated.
Not horror, but the last book that literally terrified me was I'll be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara. I highly suggest you give it a whirl!! And I LOVED Gravity Falls and LOVE T. Kingfisher.
Dude that McNamara book sounds actually terrifying * adds to TBR *
I haven’t had a miss with Kingfisher’s books yet and I’m definitely getting up there in how many I’ve read - super excited for the one that just came out!
Hi, I absolutely loved this video. I have Tender Is The Flesh on my TBR but not read it yet. I picked it up because of What Victoria Read. She is a U.K. book tuber and rates the book as one of the best she has ever read. Thank you x
You’re so sweet 🖤 I hope you like Tender is the Flesh! It’s certainly an experience lol
Do you mean third person? Second person would be: "You walk to the fridge."
I would love another video like this!!
🖤🖤 i love the multiple comments as you watched the video btw absolutely made my day
I loved moon of the crusted snow & tender is the flesh but I didn’t find them scary. But I’m excited to read some of these!!
i understand the criticism that it was about felix, instead of faye. However, i think stolen tounges was written in felix's perspective so there was that added horror element of everyone being unreliable (either because theyre known to lie (faye's mom), they dont have the full information (felix), or they may not be themselves (faye)).
if it was written from faye's perspective, then we'd know exactly when faye wasnt *faye* and i think that might ruin some of the horror/uncanniness
but i say all this while also not really liking the book that much
I absolutely agree with that analysis, and I bet if I read the book and reviewed it now I would likely have different opinions on the book's structure and why I didn't vibe with it as much as I wanted to.
I didn’t have my phone in my hand when you said potential spoilers and I was about 2 seconds too slow to skip ahead - pain lmao
Agh I’m so sorry - the true horror is booktubers spoiling books you’re interested in 😬
@@itsbells hahhaa it’s okay I probably wouldn’t have ever read any of the ones here that I haven’t already picked up anyways
I felt the exact same way about night of the mannequin
So glad it wasn’t just me 😅
So off topic but where did you get your glasses?? They're so cute!!
honestly they were glasses that were on clearance at the local store I get my eyes checked at lmao but thank you!! I also love them
I really liked the patient!
Tender is the flesh made me a vegetarian for two weeks and honestly I can never eat meat now without feeling mildly disgusted
Dude I FEEL THAT deeply
Wana read all of those, I’ve read Neville in the past and didn’t really enjoy but will give it a shot
Yeah it was a weird one but I’m definitely open to trying some of his other books
Sorry if you’ve mentioned this before and I missed it, but is there a reason you have never read American Psycho?
I definitely don’t mention it in the video so you didn’t miss it! I have always been interested in the story since it’s such a popular reference and decided to watch the movie first, and the visuals actually upset me so much for some reason that I’m scared of the book and just took it off my TBR and never thought about it again 😂
So many horror books by stephens, i counted 3
stolen tongues was so good at first and then it just repeated over and over and OVER again. such a disappointment
Yesss like the first couple chapters freaked me out. If only the author kept that energy the whole book. It did become really repetitive
Exactlyyyyyyy
the 7th book reminds me of GET OUT movie
I think you’d love North American lake monsters by Nathan Ballingrud
You need to read Mary by Nat Cassidy...writes a woman's journey of insanity so well
that book has been on my mind recently and I have only heard amazing things about it
I liked this video at 27 seconds in.
I had the same feelings about night of the mannequins
thank you so much ❤
I do alllll audio books! Stolen tongues was the last book that scared the hell out of me! The Exorcist house is also great if you havent tried it yet
I am so in love with audiobooks tbh I wouldn’t have read half as many books last year without them
And the Exorcist House has been on my TBR for awhile but I kind of forgot about it!
Cows will get you to that 100% lol I had to read that one chapter at a time
oh god I just know that book will truly haunt my nightmares lol
Ok I’m going to be the person late to the party. What are Booktubers and how do I see their videos. I downloaded an app called Booktube but I can’t seem to watch any videos.
Booktubers are RUclipsrs who’s content centers around books and reading! They are a kind of community on RUclips, I think searching for “booktube” or book reviews on RUclips should bring up some channels!
I strongly disliked the silent companions. It bored me. Check out the Village by Camilla Stein. Also check out the novella part 1 of The Forgotten and the Damned.
