Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy eat your heart out. What a pair of voices, this trumps even her renditions with Robert Goulet. Presnell has a voice three notches beyond magnificent. How about a twelve hour concert with these two headlining it? Sign me up.
I am singing My Heart Is So Full Of You from Most Happy Fella in an upcoming concert. I always struggle with it. Somehow Julie Andrews in all her humble incredible-ness, makes it seem like the easiest thing in the world!! And the most beautiful! I never heard it sung so absolutely beautifully. My God, she was so freaking gifted, how she just knew how to use that voice to it's fullest potential, chest to mixed voice into head...it was all so seamless. Stupendous singing, and so moving how they embraced and sang. Their voices really went together well, and it's a very moving and touching performance!!!
Actually, since she was taught by the old school of singing, there is a chance that although it sounds like pure head voice at the end its not. If you look at all classically trained top sopranos, they phonate correctly and as the pitch goes up, the voice resonates where it needs to. In other words, we spend too much time on placement and we end up manipulating the sound..rather than allowing it to bloom to its full potential. If you were standing next to her, it would sound thick and heavy and will hurt your ears. Recordings dont pick up the full potential and thus appears to seem super heady when its not.
Julie, I wish my grandfather "Robert Weede" who was the original singer of this song on Broadway, was still alive. He would have figured out how to let you know that you can still sing. He would have re-introduced you to your voice, and taught you how to use it again. You are wonderful!
Bill Weede: You certainly don't need me to tell you what a great artist your grandfather was, but he was admired by every opera, concert, and Broadway singer of his era. I interviewed many of them, including ones whose vocal problems he cured.
I only know your grandfather from the Original Cast Recording and to date, no one, not even Giorgio Tozzi, has topped that interpretation of the role. Your grandfather was magnificent.
Julie Andrews began as a pretty, graceful woman. With maturity she became beautiful. She was capable of playing a Victoria, Victoria, a nanny, a queen, and how I would have enjoyed her on the wide screen as Eliza Doolittle.
My impression from listening to a lot of Julie on video, is that her very highest range began to be problematic around 1978. that when I notice her beginning to make choices in songs ( I could have Danced All Night etc) thated avoid that part of her previous register. Of course she more than made up for it with more mature performance style and phrasing. Audiences still got their money's worth for at least another two decades. Range is not everything by a long shot.
That is because those are the only videos out on youtube. If you hear her 1980 Japanese concert, you can hear her sing live high A-flats in full voice with orchestra and b-flats. Then in 1982 in Victor/Victoria she sings high b-flats those videos are available online. Then in 1991 with Carol Burnet she does a bastardized version of Muzettas Waltz hitting high As held out and her 1991, she also sings with PLacido Domingo in 1985 with High As, Bs live in a concert, followed by her 1989 Christmas show with Domingo where she sings high A-flats (the last note here is also an A-flat) Hallmark CD, she sings a held out High A in the song Sleigh Ride. However, I concur, I am terribly disappointed that she decided to lower the key to I could have Danced all night in her later concerts during which time she was still singing opera house quality High As.
I dodjnt know why she sang in a lower key.Iprefer the other singers in this song who sang in the original key G.She also sang in a lower key the duet with Harve Presnell.Just listen to the original with Robert Weede and Jo Sullivan ot the revival with Laura Benanti and Shuller Hansley
Her range like anyone elses got shorter & thicker over time. She actually had started to lose range from her childhood years before she landed on Broadway in the "Boyfriend". Thats part of how voices naturally age. But that surgery cut it like in half.
@@joyinskeep3563 Doesn't the training process with the adult voice actual broaden the USUABLE range. Julie said her child voice hit high notes that were lacked enough power and purity and consistency to be usable in a concert or stage setting,, The impression left is that the notes existed, but the quality did not. She did not lose anything in her adult range worth keeping. She gives great credit to her voice teacher Lilly Stiles Allen who she continued to see periodically as an adult.
The day Julie Andrews lost her voice our universe lost one of our greatest treasures.
Two great talents and good people to boot.
😢❤!¡Hermoso RD0.!!!! July cada día que quiero mas.!!!!!!

Great singing by Julie and Mr. Presnell.
That final note pierced me like an arrow through the heart... Julie is an incomparable gift to the world

I very much like everything about Audrey Hepburn but Julie should've been Eliza.
Harve rockin' the wig.
Julie is singing a song first sang by Jo Sullivan in1956. She sings it beautifully but also sang it very well Sullivan, Barbara Cook and Kelli O Hara.
What Happens,When You Suddenly Lose, Your Voice. What Do You Do. SS.
