    Really nice demo on making the transformer itself. I recommend finding some ferromagnetic glue to hold the core together. I noticed the core is a flyback core, you can also use the retainer pin for extra stability (which my require fine tuning to achieve proper resonance between L1 & L2).

  • @Berghiker
    @Berghiker 7 лет назад +2

    Mine I made with 2 metal clips that hold the 2 pieces together. Works perfect! I can also take it apart and use a different secondary coil for other applications. I like it that way because mine is flexible. Don't have a video of it because I made it a long time ago.

    Thanks for video and the idea.I took also a similar magnetic core and i made a custom CCFL transformer for replacing the original one and impossible to find for a tv repair on a Philips 32PFL5604H/12.

    Mine produces thick orange fiery sparks (probably more current than yours). Also much more dangerous. I used 2 IRFP250's. I also used a 0,68uF cap across the 10 turn centre tapped coil. I get really long fiery arcs from just a 700 turn homemade secondary coil (with NO resin HV protection around the coil) using 25VDC from 2 lead acid batteries 7Ah each.

    2:35 when you are talking about "gap value" are you referring to the space between the two halves of the iron core? Ive taken apart flybacks in the past that have small copper rings where the two halves join and the flyback doesn't work half as well if they're removed. just confused why you dont need the gap, what is single ended scheme vs push pull referring to? the driver?

    • @FarleyHillBilly
      @FarleyHillBilly 6 лет назад +1

      In a flyback transformer the current flows in one direction only which magnetises the core if there is no gap.
      In push pull the magnetic field reverses and the core is not magnetised in one direction.

    really nice! I was afraid that the number of available fly back transformers might decrease because I didn't know that it's so easy to make a high voltage transformer!

    • @___Chris___
      @___Chris___ 3 года назад +1

      Yes, but for better performance of flyback transformers cores with an air gap should be used to delay core saturation (as I understand it - correct me if I'm wrong - beyond saturation permeability increases and we have higher heat losses without more inductance).

    when you put the resin in you should have put it into a vacuum too, that pulls the bubble's out from underneath the layers, that way it won't be able to arc between layers.

      You can find enameled magnet wire in old picture tube TV's. All the stuff you need for such experiments can be found in them. Be careful as the CRT (cathode ray tube) can store a lethal charge, also the large capacitor on the board can too.

    I modified a HV transformer from old LCD tv, i changed the primary to make a center-tapped one. I wind left to right after i soldered a irfz44n and 1k on Gate. After that it doesn't create a arc when i power up the circuit. After checking the MOSFET the GATE and SOURCE are shorted. Can anyone tell me how to wind proper primary coil?

    • @Mike-nt7cd
      @Mike-nt7cd 6 лет назад

      Ken Gaming get two wires . Wind one four times around the ferrite core get the other wire and do the same then in the Middle where they're right next to each other make a center tap so they're both connected so that means you should have three /four wires one to the right two thet are Center tapped and another wire to the left and connect that to a zvs driver and connect the zvs driver to a 20 volt lithium ion battery and there you go it should work. / wind on primary

    Wouldn't arcing generate x-rays? I thought when electrons hit a metal surface, they generate x-rays.
    At least that's what is shown on an x-ray tube illustration. That's why the back of the CRT is shielded! No?

    • @BariumCobaltNitrog3n
      @BariumCobaltNitrog3n 7 лет назад +2

      Wire 0.8mm is AWG 20 gauge, like jumper wire for a bread board. I agree with Red, he does say 0.18mm which is a popular size for magnet wire (0.1798)

    • @Wolf-yp2qk
      @Wolf-yp2qk 7 лет назад +3

      There really is no overkill in this situation, unless you are using it for low voltage projects. But if you are pushing it to it's limits, this is definitely needed.

    • @JoshuaRando
      @JoshuaRando 7 лет назад

      Definitely. No such thing as overkill when for insulating in high voltage systems.

      In the simplest terms possible: Primary is your "input" coil, secondary is your "output" coil. Alternating current flows into the primary coil, which induces a voltage in the secondary.
