    I was in NYC paying for my dinner with the platinum. An older guy at the table across saw me whipping it out and said "dont you have the gold?? Use the gold".
    We started talking and turns out he worked pretty high up in my industry. One thing led to another and I got hired at his company making almost double the salary I had before. So everytime I think of downgrading the card because of the fee I remember that it's covered by the $60,000 more a year I earn thanks to it.

    This reminds me of that Ask Sebby video where he explained how he spent over $1600 on annual fees, which included multiple premium cards.
    My position is if you have a genuine need to carry all the premium cards regardless of the expense associated with them then by all means - go for it.
    But I personally agree with Shifu. Just use 1 premium card. Whichever makes sense for you and/or your family.
    There comes a point where too much is too much and everything else is just a waste or financially unnecessary.

    • @dh2266
      @dh2266 5 лет назад

      Yeah. I could see cases being made for two depending on unique situation or cards complimenting each other but in most cases one is probably best.
      I say that with having CSR and wife just getting Aspire though. BUT I'm not sure we'll keep hers longterm. We may downgrade to regular Hilton. For now each of us having Priority pass is beneficial to our family. I know there may be other/better ways to do that but I'm keeping my CSR and don't want to pay for an AU.

    • @dandawson8128
      @dandawson8128 5 лет назад +1

      D H - agree 100%. I never like paying for anything obviously, but $75 for AU is cheaper than her keeping the CSP after year 1, so we’ll downgrade hers to CFU and added her to my CSR. She keeps the points rolling in, and I maximize here and there and handle the minutia. It’s no extra work and it’s easy. (It gives her a headache).

    • @dh2266
      @dh2266 5 лет назад

      @@dandawson8128 Definitely agree with that. Having a CSP is worthless when you have a CSR in the family already.
      You might could try doing without an AU though. A lot of travel purchases are online so your wife could still use your card. When we go out to eat, I'm usually with her so she still doesn't need her own card. One other thought is looking into setting up mobile pay on your wife's phone with your card.
      Question for you though, does being an AU get your wife her own Priority Pass?

    • @stevenmiller7747
      @stevenmiller7747 5 лет назад

      David Sebby claims he makes money on each of his premium cards. Let's assume he does, then it makes great sense to have them all. Now I'm skeptical he does make money on each of them but I'll take his word for it.

    • @reblscm
      @reblscm 5 лет назад +1

      @@stevenmiller7747 Yeah, it's all good. I'm a big fan of both Shifu and Sebby so I've followed both of their insights on managing premium credit cards with great interest.
      It's definitely a juggling act to balance all those high annual fees with the understanding that once you've crossed that line (actually having multiple high-tier cards) you now have to ensure that you get a solid return - or as Sebby says - "positive expected value".

    • @dandawson8128
      @dandawson8128 5 лет назад +3

      Slick Reviews - you nailed it, that’s exactly their intent, to get rid of churners (like my neighbor) and incentivize you to keep using the card. Interesting observation/comparison, AmEx is using the carrot approach like targeting me to spend $2k on Ascend for 20k pts (up to 2x) and $1k on HHonors card to 10k pts (up to 2x), while Chase is using the stick approach lengthening the Sapphire rule up to 48 months now I think. Seems the cobranded cards are using the $15k, $20k, and higher targets for the next tier of bonus miles/points.

    Alright, a few off-topic questions:
    In the Uk, it states that if you buy an airline ticket through Amex, you get 3 points per £1 spent. I have a digital card with Emirates who also states that if I book with them, I get 2x points. So does that total to 5 points per £1 or separate? Does it earn points for with the airlines?
    Would I also benefit from just sticking with 1 airline or multiple?
    It then leads on to how I should purchase my tickets and the best value.
    If I wanted business class would I benefit more from:
    1) Cash + Miles
    2) Upgrade from economy class
    3) Buy business class straight from miles
    Would really appreciate a response

    How much of a credit history should one have before getting one of these? I only graduated and started working a year ago so just have a year of credit history but no debt or bad credit history in that I've paid off everything on time. The Amex Gold looks pretty good, I just have the fee free BAs Amex card at the moment

    2 questions did your friend from California have a Chase Freedom NOT Freedom unlimited Freedom? your correct you can redeem cash back from the Sapphires but your correct there travel cards
    so which is better after year one down grading or product changing
    let's look at some cards if somebody has the Savor Capitol1 4% cash back on entertainment and 4% on dining 2x on grocerys after the first year which is better down grading to the Savor1 product changing over to Venture1 or product changing over to the Quicksilver or canceling the Card?
    these are for people who like to shop and go out to eat and go to a spa 6 times a year, travel on vacation 2 times a year
    Citi Bank Thank you premiere same scenario for people who like go to Barnes and nobles, Models champs, Bed bath and beyond, Armani Exchange gap family ect, spa 6 times a year and on vacation
    after year 1 which is better down grading from the Thank you premiere to the thank you prefeered or product changing from the Thank you premiere
    to the double cash card or canceling the Thank you premiere?
    Chase from the card I just picked up from sapphire preferred to the Freedom unlimited or to the Freedom as a product change or down grading to the basic sapphire or canceling the Sapphire preferred?
    Capitol1 Venture after year 1 down grading to Venture 1 or product changing over to Savor1 or to the Quick silver or canceling the Venture card?
    American express Green card after year one are there any downgrade able cards if so with this company is there a small fee? can you product change
    if so would it be the blue cash card ( basic 1) or what cards can be product changed over from the Green card?

      skylinec83 - fully agree, but since gas isn’t considered as travel for CSR, gas should be on CFU for 1.5%, or another card that’s 2% on everything (Citi Thank You, AmEx something, or CO Spark Business & they have a personal one too that’s 2%), if you don’t mind leaving UR family.. Aside from CF quarterly bonus, I use AmEx Hilton Ascend for gas at 6x points. Don’t forget gas was for 3 quarters this year (twice it was gas straight up and first 3 quarters were all Chase Pay). I usually buy all the gas so use Chase Pay mobile app at Shell till I reach max max for quarter.

When it’s their money, they take quick action, if it’s mine they won’t give a shit. I rarely ever use my debit card. Plus, definitely the perks.
