I think when you have had a good foundation in art/painting etc. you are able to play around and be more expressive, experiment, but not so much that it overpowers or ruins the work. You can tell he has experience as an artist because there's a lot of elements in this that are all well balanced. He's probably practiced and played with this technique before so he knows what to expect. His work shows consistency and experience. I like it
That was a rollercoaster. Every 20 seconds I was thinking "Oh no, that just ruined it for sure" but then at the end I was blown away! Goes to show an artist's vision rarely makes sense before it's realized. Beautiful!
I don't understand how he makes that paper handle all that water..... His technique is so loose but so realistic in the eyes and face it's incredible! 🥰🥰🥰
Beautiful! You are so good with watercolors. That part was very interesting where you added a new, very watery layer on top of her eyes. That created a nice effect after it dried. Can you actually guess how it will look like once such a layer dries or will it be a surprise for you as well?
der absolute Wahnsinn! Ich muss eins sagen. . Du und echolox seit ein geniales Team ich finde es passt immer genau zusammen deine wunderschönen Bilder und die coole Musik bitte macht weiter so!!!
I love to watch everyone’s videos. I know it takes practice. Everyone seems to have such control of their paint, water, and brush. I don’t feel like I achieve that at all. Then I find it very hard to shut my inner critic up and go back to it!! Yet I long too, like I imagine someone ‘jonesing’ might feel!! Sorry if that is a wrong comparison or offends anyone, not my intent, but it still feels like the correct comparison. It’s all I can think about. I itch to fill my books with finished work. I am working on it, I am sketching, mixed media art journals, and the study of water color a lot...lol. I really LOVE what you have done here. Thank You so much for sharing.
Liron Yanconsky has a tutorial you might find helpful (10 minute portrait tutorial) it’s more loose. He also often addresses fears in art -I too struggle with that; it’s not logical there’s nothing to lose but there it is..ever present. Letting go isn’t easy.
Today I finally had the courage to try watercolors and noticed how fun and cool they are! : ) It's amazing what you can do with watercolors on that little sketchbook of yours : D Really nice video ^. ^
you are great! i'm inspired with what you are doing .. by the way i am an aspiring artist but not like you i didn't go to university to study yet by watching you i'm learning a lot ..continue what you are doing :)
Thank you for making a speed painting.. Actually, I was planning to draw my mom's portrait using watercolor splash method but i didn't knew how it is done.. I'm glad that I found your video.. It really helped me to draw 🤭thank you
Ich bin obsessed in dieses Mädchen/Frau. Was hast du das unglaublich wunderbar gemacht. Ich habe dieses Video schon 10+ Mahl geguckt. Grusse aus Holland from a big fan. ❤️🍀
that color density control tho, I tried this for the first time since im bored with sketching, and things doesn't go well sometimes heavy n sometimes light, its really hard to control unlike shading but its a new experience and im very hype to try it again n again
Definitely one of my most favorites of all your works! BTW, since this vid is 7 minutes long, I can use it as a timer for boiling an egg XD A really enjoyable waiting time!
Love the colours you used especially around the eyes you started to lose the highlights in that area but I think a little masking fluid will help next time but I really enjoyed the video CHEERS!!!
Sometimes people are born into this world with talents that might as well be magic, others have to spend many hours a day for a long time to get that good.....then there's me ....AND THEN THERE'S LAOVAAN WHO IS FRIKING AMAZING AT WATERCOLOUR AND ART AND DRAWING AND DIGITAL ART!!!!WHAT THE HELL HOW???? tell us your secret because every time i try to watercolour it looks like someone threw up on it...am i the only one with that problem? tips please ^~^....anyone....i need help with watercolour...And laovaan is too amazing
+Echolox yeah but sometimes (and i feel so mean by saying this i mean no offence btw!!!!!) i cant understand some word because of his accent :( and ive noticed that every single speedpainter artist on youtube that i follow doesnt speak english XD but at least laovaan knows english so ill try to get used to his accent thx alot btw
I really wish to know what paper (or even detailed, the producers of it) pro artists used. I want to jump into traditional media creation but realized there's so much to know!
This question has probably been asked before but when you decide on the colours for the skin tones, do you have a plan? Like, do you just decide on a couple of complementary colours and then just apply washes of them similar how you would do normal skin? You just make sure that the values of whatever colours you're using are the same? I hope this question makes sense lol.
Laovaan - I have some questions I'd like to ask you. I think you have made a beautiful portrait here. You posted that it took 5 hours to paint this portrait. As long as it wasn't larger than 11" X 14", I could paint something very similar in about 2 to 21/2 hours. Did that 5 hours include setting up for the video shoot, thinking about the portrait, and other things not related to the actual time it took to paint the portrait? Or, is that 5 hours of virtually straight painting?
I appreciate how he wasn't afraid to completely screw up his painting, just because I would never have taken that risk when he painted over the eyes.

same!!
WHEN HE DID THAT I WAS LIKE OMFG U'VE SCREWED UP BUT NOW I'M CRYING BC IT'S PERFECT
Same I was so shocked he/she did that but omg it's so....so..... pretty
E Lee I didn't even know your not supposed to do that, ive recently just started using watercolour and I've never really had a problem with it
That was a rollercoaster. Every 20 seconds I was thinking "Oh no, that just ruined it for sure" but then at the end I was blown away! Goes to show an artist's vision rarely makes sense before it's realized. Beautiful!

I came here because my art teacer told me to watch this video in order to inspire me!
YOUR TEACHER WAS RIGHT
you know a painting's good when it already looks complete 2 minutes in
chello ikr
not really lol wtf
I wish maggi could also be cooked in two minutes
🤷♀️🤷♀️
🤣🤣🤣
i would never have the guts to wash over the eyes. great job tbh!!!
My heart sank when he brushed greens over the eyes but man it went so lovely
I nearly flipped when you added all the water over the eyes, I don't think I'd ever do that! Yet it turned out so well!
Why did someone dislike this? Your work is gorgeous 😍💕
+Amelia Potter Some people are strange :p
Amelia Potter people who envy do that
Amelia Potter 17 people mean "dis i like"
why is every painting you do so amazing???
+Lozzalia hop thank you U//U
Laovaan What was the approximate time it took you to finish it? 😅
Lozzalia hop I agree
Cause he got skills, we wish we had😂😅😓
Man, even though it was in the thumbnail, I was still shocked when you painted over the eyes!! Still looked wonderful and definitely paid off!!
Years later I came back to this video ❤
This painting is absolutely gorgeous Laovaan!!
Just found this - so beautiful and the depth of emotion in those eyes made me cry! You are a very talented artist 😊
Beautiful! You are so good with watercolors.

Watercolor is a wild medium and its uncontrollable, im sure hes surprised that the effects became beautiful.
One thing i learned, never be scared to try weird ways to paint. But this one needs massive effort to learn. Hands down.
Yes.. absolutely correct👍🏻
Beautiful! How you play around with paint and water is like magic. True art! Love your stuff.
Ooh splotchy, I like it.
der absolute Wahnsinn! Ich muss eins sagen. . Du und echolox seit ein geniales Team ich finde es passt immer genau zusammen deine wunderschönen Bilder und die coole Musik bitte macht weiter so!!!
i always watch this when im stressed. i don't know why but i just love this!

Thank you for making a speed painting.. Actually, I was planning to draw my mom's portrait using watercolor splash method but i didn't knew how it is done.. I'm glad that I found your video.. It really helped me to draw 🤭thank you
The "about 5 hours" reminds me to stop trying to hurry up when I work on art. Great video as usual
3:40 wow that is really beautiful... 3:47 WHAT JUST HAPPENED. AND HOW IS HE MAKING IT EVEN MORE FANTASTIC?
Incredible. I would have freaked when you did the splash across her eyes. How did you know it would set and not ruin the eyes under it?
The music and the picture is so soothing 😍
Ich bin obsessed in dieses Mädchen/Frau. Was hast du das unglaublich wunderbar gemacht. Ich habe dieses Video schon 10+ Mahl geguckt.

This watercolor portrait goes to prove, there is beauty of all kinds in the world. You just have to find it, and hold onto it, whatever it may be.
This is so poweful, thanks for the beautiful painting!
Beautiful 👌👍
One of the nicest paintings I've ever seen... absolutely love it. Is it for sale?
I wonder if all the effects come from wetting & rewetting painted surfaces or if anything to repel paint was used
I didn't see a rhyme or reason for the color choice or placement but i liked the free brush work and it turned out
Awesome ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amazing work
I really wish to know what paper (or even detailed, the producers of it) pro artists used.
I want to jump into traditional media creation but realized there's so much to know!
Jesus,I am crying at it's perfection!!😍😍😍

It's Me Its literally the first word of the video title. Watercolor.

You scared the hell out of me with those eyes 😭😭😭
Nice job as always!
Here's a little question, is that white paint used in 2:20 white gouache or water colour?
+Kyriolexical Dino it was Dr. Martin's Pen White^^ it is a high pigmented watercolor I think...the use is the same at least :)
