very clear and useful . Thanks
What is the size / part number of the oil pan bolts. Thank you for the marvelous video.
Great video. Thanks!
I laughed at the comment at the end about the weight of the bonnet - my 2003 STR had that. Jaguar changed to aluminium for the later cars and on my '07 there nearly isn't enough weight to drop it onto the latches.
Great videos, love watching them before I do any work on my 2004 STR they're really helpful and makes the job a lot easier because I know what to look for and in which order I got to do things. Wanting to drain current oil and replace it with new oil.
I do have a can of Castrol Edge Titanium 5W-30 C3 would that be suitable or should I go for the Magnatec one?
Keep up the great jobs making these videos, much appreciated.
Regards from The Netherlands.

Can any one pls tell me what can cause water leak from my expansion tank cap. I did replace the expansion tank bottle to a new one yet after about 10 miles it still do same thing; leaking water from the cap and thus result in COOLANT LOW warning...
What prompted your replacement of the sump gasket? Is it a regular service interval item? Just curious. Nice video, BTW. I really need to buy some ramps.
Hi Michael,
The sump gasket was replaced because oil was seeping out.
Thanks for watching and for your complimentary comments
Cheers

hello i have a quick question for you guys,,, i have a jaguar s type r 100,00 miles i drove the car one night and suddenly the car started to smoke a little from the from of the engine i pulled over and stopped the engine then i tried to re start the engine and didn't start ,,, but i notice oil under nit the car and rear bumper ,,, and i had one guy to take a look at the car and told me that there was 2 holes in the oil pan but there was not holes, i looked at t and theres not ,, so i was wondering if the engine blew up or engine just might locked itself for running with not oil or low oil level ,, what can i do need help asap please
Hi Carlos,
It is almost impossible to diagnose this type of problem without performing inspection and checks on the actual car itself. The symptoms you state don't point to any particular single fault in our experience and we can really only suggest at this stage getting a local Independant Jaguar Specialist to take a look at it.
Hope you get it sorted and do let us know how you get on.
Best regards

Thanks for posting. I might have a go at this myself, having seen that it's relatively easy. Do you not use any gasket cement, like Hermetite or the like?
Hi,
We didn't use any sealant as the gasket is a synthetic rubber like material that compresses when fitted. The gasket also pushes into the crankcase side of the joint and holds in place whilst fitting the oil pan back in place.
Tips: -
1) Thoroughly clean the oil pan.
2) Clean both sides of the mating joint before fitting gasket
3) Don't pull or stretch the new gasket when fitting to the crankcase side.
4) Lightly smear the gasket with clean engine oil before refitting oil pan.
5) Adhere to recommended oil pan bolt tightening sequence and torque settings.
Same cleanliness method applies also to the oil filter. - Good Luck and thanks for watching
Is the V6 3.0L oil pan gasket that easy? I heard that engine has to be lifted up or the the subframe removed?
Hi - The video covers the replacement of the V8 SC engine sump gasket which is very simple. The V6 oil pan gasket replacement will require the engine to be lifted and the steering rack loosened in order to do it.
Anyone know if the 4.2 sump differs from the 3.0 sump, I have a small leak but was told its a big job, unlike this video looks straight forward..
Hi - Yes the 3.0 V6 sump is very different to the V8 which we replace in the video. The V6 sump which is alloy and runs from the front to rear of the engine can only be removed by first increasing the access clearance. Jaguar recommend dropping the steering rack along with the sub frame. However unless you are well equipped to do this the alternative method is by raising the engine using an engine support bar and then dropping the steering rack. This method can be done by a competent DIYer - but you will still need equipment. We have two V6 S types and both have a leaking (or I should say seeping) sump gasket. The oil loss is very minimal so we just clean the oil seepage away with WURTH brake cleaner and monitor the leaks.
Hope this helps

thanks for the info...
is it true that you must remove that the first step is to remove the transfer case?
Hi - not sure that I understand what you are asking. There is no transfer case on the engine oil pan or filter.
hotmasked1 You’re referring to the X-Type models which have AWD and yes you do have to remove the transfer case and subframe on those. If I’m not mistaken i think the S-Types such as the one in this video only came in RWD so there’s no transfer case envolved however on the 3.0 V6 models you have to drop the rack and pinion and subframe too.
What did they spray was it brake clean
Hi - Yes we used Wurth Brake Cleaner.
I was told never to use synthetic motor oil on Jaguars x type or s type I see u are using synthetic oil isn't that bad to use on a jag engine
Hi Brooklyn,
Have a look at the link below for recommended Jaguar engine oil.
