My First Cat 3 Crit - Mountbatten Circuit Race

- After my recent upgrade to 3rd cat, it was time to jump straight in and take on my first 3rd cat crit! This week saw me take on the Mountbatten circuit races, on a Wednesday evening in Portsmouth.
It's a very similar circuit to the Preston Park circuit races I had been taking part in recently but with a slightly shorter race length. The shorter race length no doubt meant it was going to be a full gas crit race, with plenty of attacks and it didn't disappoint.
The step up in speed and power required to cover attacks and keep up from 4th cat to 3rd was a big jump. I have plenty of work to do and lot more crit racing to tackle, but I hope you enjoyed the video.
Please do like & subscribe for more crit and road racing this summer!
Yes G! Good to race with you mate and you were comfortable throughout. With a bit less time on the front, you’d have had enough to get away. A solid start to road racing! Del, sod the lights and machining, commentary is your calling! Ali & Rocket behind the camera, you on the comms, Ben Co-comms, G rider! Dream channel and family business… 😀
Thanks mate, great racing with you too I just need a bit of your power 😜 and haha it was a full family production this week and dad loves his moment to shine with the commentary 😂
Yep - the big lads with big power and pinch make Cat 3 very hard indeed 🥵. Nice work for staying in the bunch first time out 👌
They certainly do with a bit better race craft from myself that should make a big difference to get to the front of the pack come the end of the race 🤞
Great commentary from your dad I was hooked 😂
good effort, big step up to Cat 3 in the end and best to play it safe in the pack= your dad's commentary had me hooked on the video though! well done
Thanks dude, all in all pretty happy for my first outing and haha he loves getting on the camera 😂
Great work Giorgio 💪🏼 can’t believe that your racing with wee Stuart Thompson, cycling legend and one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met. Keep up the good work 😉
Thanks Dan 😃 and ahh interesting I’m not very clued up on the names of people I’m racing yet… not like Wessex league seems to be different people every race 😅😂
Well done, Giogrio. Been really enjoying these videos. Cheers!
Thank you appreciate it 😃
Great video mate...loved delos's commentary 👌
Thanks mate 💪 dads been telling me today that he makes my channel 😂😂
Well done Giorgio, first cat 3 challenge! Great production team - top tips and commentary from Del and filming from Gravel Granny! And well done to Ben too! 👍
Thanks Carol 😃 and it was a serious team effort this week I had a full film crew 😂
Well done Giorgio, looked like you enjoyed it xx
Thanks and yes enjoyed it but it was tough 😅
I’ll take ‘absolute monster’! Couldn’t have done it without FOUR4TH of course 😉Great vid man, hope to see you again this weds for more full gas!
Haha you certainly are… mad respect going off the front like that you’ve got some serious power 💪 racing thruxton this week but will probably be back the week after… hopefully you’re cat 2 by then so I don’t have to get my legs ripped off again 😂
@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling hahaha thanks man! fair play yourself getting round, all good experience and mb isn’t for faint hearted! Mind if I take some of the video in there for my TikTok?
@@inigoh yeah surprisingly tough track but good fun giving it a good hit and yeah that’s fine buddy 👍 happy to send them over if you need better quality
Nice one , I was in there , 3rd cat racing is very frustrating sometimes no-one wants to roll through. Training on a Wednesday night down there is harder I think. You there tomorrow for #2
Yeah at points it looks like we’re going to start rolling through and then nothing comes of it but every time I was on the front I didn’t have the power to shut it down anyway 😂 not there tomorrow raced thruxton this evening but will potentially race on Saturday… have a good one if you’re racing 💪
How did ya go at behind the bike sheds? That hill is a killer when the wind barrels down there.
@@larrywiltshire4813 out the back on the last lap tried to go with a couple of guys but didn’t get on the wheel straight away and left myself in the head wind which was absolutely brutal… blew my load trying to get on the wheel and everyone came round me 😅 live and learn 😂 tough track though!
I hope you got some cake after that race!!! 😎🍻
Of course… deserved it after that race 😅
@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤜🏽🤛🏽
Loved the dad cam and commentary! He could work for Eurosport! And my dad always does what Gravel Granny did films himself accidentally instead of filming me racing 🤦♂️
Haha Maybe it’s his next job 🤔😂 and I think gravel granny and your dad just secretly want to be on camera 😜
great video 'G'
Thanks Lee 👌
Good effort, you know them mossa lads are real strong. Keeping up with the pack is a good achievement…. You didn’t get lapped..
Maybe try long audax rides as well, they are tough but easier as you only have to finish in a set time
Very true on reflection I was super happy with my first outing in that category 😃 and not sure I would finish a long audax ride… I completed a long gravel ride last year and don’t think i’m over that yet 😂
Mr G you seem a bit dejected after that race . Do you have race cat 3? it seems your trying run before you can walk ? All the same you tryed your hardest looks very tactical and you need to be very strong off the front . Looks fun though. Taking part is the main thing . Well done.
I think I have just accepted where I’m at at the moment I don’t have the power to compete with some of the stronger guys on a flat course like this but it’s good for me to race a course that doesn’t suit me and learn the race craft as it’s super tactical around that circuit… and yes now I’m cat 3 I have to race cat 3 but I’m hoping some races that are more suited to me will come up soon 🤞
Congrats on finishing average in a higher category ! 419 watts for the last lap 💪
Were they a bit more elbow-to-elbow contact-friendly ? 😉
(and yes, your dad's comments are gold 😂 )
Thanks Pierre 😃 and they certainly were if you want the wheel you have to fight for it 😂 and haha he loves his moment to shine 😅
Great commentary from your dad I was hooked 😂
😂 he loves getting on the camera 😂
@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling father like son 😉 he’s good at talking about the races mate! 👌🏻
