I like the ramp test just for consistency. There's not really any pacing. You just do it until you can't. I don't care if the number it gives me is accurate in real world terms, just as long as it's consistent over time. As long as it's improving, we're good. I'll know when I do the real races outside if I've gotten any better.
The problem for me coming from a gym background was that the ramp test skewed high for me. That meant all my workouts (especially longer intervals) were way too hard so ended up having to lower my FTP manually
Just did this route this morning. I am pretty good at anaerobic sprints, so I've felt the ramp test was a little skewed. on the flip side, I can't pace a 20min test for beans. Regardless, I have a lot of building to do and fitness to gain.
your goal is 300w ftp or 300 for 20min which should be around 280w? in both cases it's achievable in a year just racing zwift if your not a really light guy
@@comeespan for this year 300 watt for 20 minutes. I did nog made it in January, ~290. With work-life balance I don't think I can reach 315-320 this year. I'm 71KG. For some reason my FTP remains the same, but have better fitness after longer rides. Hour/2/3 hour power compared to last year.
Thanks, i think I'll try the grade now in January for my ftp test now that i know how it works. Cheers.
@@crossrich good luck on that! Or try it asap and improve in January 😉
@@ViveLeVeloNL might be an idea

Thanks for your comment. How was your grade? For me it came pretty close to my actual FTP.
Exact same for me. I am all sprinter so the ramp test was easier. This on the other hand was a challange!
