I'd database 1,000 casual players then implement bids from multiple casual players to volunteer for these self-made Missions. That way, casual players can access big projects that fit their availability, while at the same making a real contribution to the war effort as part of a big interchanging team.
One Post might read, 'Wanted, 12-men for Missle Truck Mission, 3 hours'
'Wanted, 5-10 men for Railroad Logi, 2 hours' etc
This way all players enjoy their time on, rather than feeling peripheral. 😎

I completely agree. Foxhole is supposed to be about large scale cooperation, and facilities have only further divided the playerbase between clans. Wanting to use a vehicle variant shouldn't require that you need to make your own facility or beg other clans to use theirs.

My ideal foxhole is public stockpiles are always supplied, and regions work together to produce what is needed for the front. People should be able to cart resources between seaports all day long without needing to be in a clan, and frontline logi will always have resources to supply the front with.

100%, they're supposed to represent the economies of scale that were present in both world wars which allowed mass production of vehicles. Many economies in both world wars did not have this, and so produced very small numbers of equipment at high cost with a small work force over a long period of time. If anything, this is more realistic.

I used to play it more often, but the devs are making it harder and harder to play as a solo casual tanker. Now you pretty much have to hope to find a tank sitting in storage or being given away.
I know all the arguments, it's a team cooperation game etc, but it doesn't change the fact that many if not most players are casual, and they simply will play less if they are locked out of vehicle variants.
Also, lol at all the private facilities, if anything, that update hurt team cooperation more than casual players ever did with all the oil field wars and facility drama.

Think about what you just said in the beginning, now look at the last thing you said about facilities....think some more. You realize how weird you sound? Private facilities HELP casual, solo players to actually experience facility gameplay without randoms coming along and taking everything. Without the ability to have private facilities and stockpiles, you would never be able to do any sort of building gameplay as a solo player. So anyways, your comment really makes no sense

    • @HippoBean

@@tevarinvagabond1192 You're viewing this from the perspective of solo logi/builders that want to engage in facility gameplay, this video and my comment is from the perspective of a tanker that just wants to build their tank and go fight and is not interested in facility gameplay. I did specify in my comment that it's harder to play as a casual solo TANKER, not a facility or logi main.
The tanker is now forced to use the facility system in order to build the same vehicles they used previously. Solo tankers without their own facility have to search for/beg/try their luck at facilities until they find one that's willing to let them upgrade their tank variant, what previously took no more than an hour can now take much longer if they can't find an open facility. What is good for solo facility mains can be bad for people with other gameplay styles, not everybody wants to play factorio, and this video isn't about solo facilities anyways, it's about solo tanking.
If you ask me, facilities as a whole were a mistake, the old system was healthier for the game.

I somehow managed to become part of a small group of T13 Rocket Batteries contributing to the defense of Silk Farms in Shackled Chasm. Even though I joined to just randomly play, I somehow became an important part of the defense just by walking up and asking if I could help load the rockets and eventually being permitted to even drive and fire them myself. Idk if I was just lucky in getting a cool experience like that, but yeah I do think casual play is still possible and fun. Find somebody doing something you feel like doing and ask if they need an extra hand, and see what comes out of it. The only bad thing was that I had voice chat errors, so I was deaf to what everybody was saying unless they typed it in chat, but it was still fun.

  • @aidenhall8593
    @aidenhall8593 Год назад +8

Casual play is definitely dead. The sweatiness of clans just breaks the game, because they can produce equipment at ridiculous rates no matter how difficult it is to do. Accordingly, the Devs have balanced logistics for clans, so they can't make an overabundance of equipment and undermine the resource management aspect of the game. However, this has made it impossible for casual people to meaningfully participate in the game. Even simple activities like acquiring and gathering the equipment for a comparatively tiny operation with your squad of friends (Ammo, small arms, bmats, shirts, explosives, and maybe some light artillery) could take anywhere from 4-8 hours. And after all that work, chances are you'll lose it all in an hour when some clans QRF shows up with 3 silverhands and wrecks you.
Games feel good when you achieve things against challenge. However, in Foxhole, you can work hard for the length of an old Call of Duty campaign, only to be bludgeoned like a baby seal the second you try to actually do anything. Who would want to play that?

Last war I was able to make a pretty manageable solo-facility with two pads and the means to make all resource types, excepting the high BT-tier ones.
If you're conservative with your building, and pick a low-supp-consumption area, you can actually make a huge amount of msupps really easily, and it's not a lot of work to keep it alive.
BUT, that still requires you to log in every day. You've got to log in at least every other day to refresh the squadlock. Even if it's 30 minutes (which would be pretty short even for a scaled-down solo facility) every day, I don't know if I'd call that casual.
If facilities are going to be a major part of the game, we need some sort of solution to keep public logi activities alive; you have to just be in the know about public facilities, as it is

    • @CreepyBanana
      @CreepyBanana  Год назад +13

    Good video Banana.
I think Infantry and in general just anything non-clan is in the worst state now than it has ever been. It feels like if you're playing on a frontline with randoms only (which is how I mostly play the game) then no progress will get made. Defences are far too strong, the explosive supplies needed to deliver them are rarely supplied.
A few years back I could login to a frontline map, build a tank/artillery usually on the same map if not at most 1 map away and then put a request in for logi to supply it. I'd usually get some responses and shortly afterwards I'd have a crew, supplied vehicle and fun.
If I didn't want to tank, I could just get a few boys to follow me and at most the strongest defence was usually 12 HEs or so and we could get through it. We could all work together suppressing it and then destroying it. Now 12 HEs is like 10% of what you need for a bunker.
Nowadays nearly all explosives are locked into clan storage or locked inside facilities. Same with most vehicles, materials and really everything in the game.
I don't think it's just a clan problem either, there's plenty of non-clan logistics players who use solo depots instead of just supplying public. The massive drive distances (sometimes 4-5 maps away from the depot) also encourage people not to deliver at all.
As a mostly frontline player I've never felt so disconnected from logi players. It seems that most request orders go unresponded, the massive drive distances mean you'll see a person do a delivery every 30 minutes - 1 hour instead of the common every 10 - 15 minutes it was before.

Never gunna forget the time me and my friends set up an entire facility to make a battle tank just to have a big clan say "Logi is to bad here, why build another facility" and I had to destroy hours of work, Love the new logi system, I honestly lost days of work and I stopped playing for a month or so. I understand now just cause I did research on how it worked but its fucking rediculous that I lost all that because some people across the map said "This is useless to us so you're either gunna destroy it or we will mark it as disruptive." I fucking hate that, I fucking shed a tear how destroyed I was, there was nothing I could do, they even stole resources from our destroyed facility like that made me stop playing for a while. On top of that I agree with the statements in the video, I spent countless hours trying to get vehicles for me and 2 other friends to use and its damn near impossible now, especially late game when all the heavy tanks are out and all you have is a stock light tank, you feel useless on the front in such a inferior vehicle and inexperienced crew. Then they quit cause they arent as invested into the game like I am so at the end of the day Im left with an empty vehicle I worked hours to get and then I'm not even going to use cause my friends got bored and left already. It sucks cause I don't want to join a clan and be dedicated to operations or need a rank in a discord to organize something to for people to actually listen to me. Sorry about the mini rant but this tells me if you want to do anything other than casual infantry, casually its just not gunna be an enjoyable experience.

I wanted to love this game, there is a lot of great elements.
But as a capable late comer to the game I was instantly met with well intended "Public Use" Facilities created by player groups that all inevitably become Private Use as the fortifications built up and it felt like sneaking onto your unfriendly neighbors farm property. If no one was around it felt okay to bring your supplies and use a place to make a vehicle of whatever type. Yet IF someone was around you felt like you were going to get shot. Even my attempt to create a public use facility in a Primary Production Town and KEY River Junction was near impossible to safely supply. An upgrade station for Jeeps, Trucks, and Tankettes. Well placed and packed into a small area right next to HQ House. Kept the HQ supplied with what it needed to maintain structures and bunkers, etc. Even put in some town defenses, figured others would. -It was a KEY location all around, supported and entire southern front, by land and sea.- (All alone for all this.) Almost ever 24hrs the supplies were raided. I had to create a tedious hand fueling system to key the generator building from running dry because literally EVERYONE left it on. No one else built and defense, or supplied the town structures. Nothing, despite heavy activity. Needless to say over the next two week, we progressively lost the main rivers and water ways in the south, they came right up to this main town with no defenses and pretty much wiped out the entire southern front of the war easily. It was rough to watch. Everyone was more focused on their respective bases and facilities. All placed in logistically advantageous locations, but HORRIBLE for Strategic Usefulness!
As stated in this video, so much is such and intense time sink now that players DO work together and make their own Facilities, and I know others work hard to create Public Works, but they either lock down, get taken over, or as I also saw several times they become abandoned due to the huge effort to maintain and protect it. Protect it from other players raiding for supplies if it doesn't look like it's in constant 24hr use.
Sry, lol I guess this video triggered something. Thanks for internet-listening by tl;dr'ing. I feel slightly better. I don't hate the game, but some aspects are intensely tedious and hard to "play casually."

It was so satisfying to go to a front, recognize that they needed anti-tank guns, run a couple up there, then man them to defend against a tank push. I remember I solo managed a buildup at Temple of the First, and played a legit 36 hour session, it was so much fun.
Now though, its impossible to do anything by yourself. Run into the gunfire if you want to play solo. Only logi tiles that have everything you need are 3+ tiles away from the front, so have fun driving for an hour.

Pretty much. It should work along those lines
    - solo casual : use garage to build any vehicle, super simple but time consuming per unit.
    - small friend team playing on weekend : use factory for any vehicle, slight discount at cost of working as a team for the upfront cost and logistics needed
    - clan : use facility to make also any vehicle, avoid them clogging garage and mass factory for the chassis, the large cooperation comes with the benefit of massive production rates and costs
That way, clans and solo/teams don't fight for resources and production methods. Clans use their own complex resources and facilities and solo/teams use the ready available simple resources and refinery/factory/garage.
In fact the same should be with ammunition and such. solo use factory and clan use their facilities. Because if you want to play with rocket artillery for example, as solo you just can't make your ammo.

Couldnt find a easy way but a clan asked me to join. We have been small but we had a facility and operations.
Until some alts coosed our base as a target. They robbed our materials and our clan lost intrest in the game (g&b-supplies are a lot of work to make).
I was a main logi player but i noticed that a lot of my work was destroyed, by some players that can only win if they play unfair.

  • @Wish-and-Hope
    @Wish-and-Hope Год назад +2

Okay, soooo... I guess this will be a weird mix of advertisement and humblebragging, but I do think I can also add some actual information to the topic.
In FMAT we've done our War Economy program the third war now (102, 103, 105) and so far we sold 1071 tanks in War 105 alone, 523 of them variants. Basically the idea is that people give us (reservable) rmats and we give them tanks, including variants. (And also free ammo and equipment on top!)
Pricing is set lower than maximum MPF discount, e.g. SvH being 100rmats while MPFing them would be 108.4 per tank on a full queue, so we don't aim to make profit, but at least keep the need for rmat scrooping to a minimum. Our main effort instead is to run facilities to produce Assembly Materials/PCons/Steel and upgrade the variants.
This way, people can simply continue to do the old comp scroop-da-whoop and still get all kind of tanks they want, without having to touch facilities. Apart from easy accessibility of tanks, this hopefully also prevents people from having to build, maintain and probably burn out on facility management (it's a lot of effort - even for big regiments) and also keep subhex modifiers low for everybody else.
Problem for the tankers is of course... you're very dependent on others. While you can work around it to a degree, buy your tanks early, keep them in a stockpile (thank Callahan variants are reservable now), have them ready when you want them. At some point you're still dependent on our communication tools, on us getting the order ready in time and in our case, you'll still need to get them to where you want to fight - we only offer one pick up location in our backline. It's certainly not as comfortable and easy as previous scrooping for your own tanks has been. Just... hopefully more bearable than dealing with the new system on your own.
And on the other hand, from our perspective: The program is a ton of work. We're running two major facilities just for the materials, plus the effort of transporting them from location to location, plus the transport of the tanks themselves from and to a depot and that doesn't even include the communication effort to advertise the program, communicate with customers and manage tank dealer tasks.
I'm going straight for another Foxhole burnout right now and won't be leading the program again next war for my own health. I think that might be possible to avoid with more experience, even more people involved or maybe even a whole regiment completely built around the concept... but it's hard, requires a ton of knowledge and communication, as well as facility and people management. It's a LOT to ask by the devs in order for people to get accessible variant tanks, while barely offering any tools to help with it. (Again: It'd be basically impossible to pull off with unreservable variants. And they only recently gave us that option.)
So... I'd say there are solutions we can pull off as a community. But the obstacles are high, probably unreasonably high.

@@CreepyBanana I love helping people and providing things, it's why I do logi. I also like organizing things and keeping spreadsheets. So yes, it is kinda fun and rewarding in the end. But the path there is... meh.
Honestly for me the biggest obstacles are the combination of all the small lack of QoL issues that make every step of the production process just that bit more annoying and often end up doubling the expected duration of a "quick material resupply" train ride or any other task of the process really. The whole "Facilities are Factorio, but you are the conveyor belt" issue.
      - unnecessarily difficult to get materials into buildings (even with cool crane placement tricks) and get materials out of buildings and onto pallets (even with cool click everything from flatcar passenger seat to pallet tricks)
      - annoying to load up trains (oh no, I'm a millimeter too far ahead, guess I have to walk along the 100m train length to get to the loco and move it slightly)
      - pallets generally being annoying to manage because they're not stackable (we end up crushing them all after use, but that means we need to have printer pads available and stocked everywhere even if just for pallets)
      - MTS/RTS are not connected by power/pipes so you have to individually reset reservation timer for them all every 2 days
      - And of course msup hell for four different places.
And all of these things are such "high specialization" knowledge that it's hard to delegate tasks to people who don't already know how to deal with them.
Mind, that comes from someone who LOVES DOING SPREADSHEETS (so all the admin stuff isn't annoying to me but very well could be for others) and who's part of a big and well organised logi specialized regiment with tons of experienced people. (They're by far not all involved in the project, but... you know... still.)
Getting raw materials and rmats at this point is the least issue of all. If we had truly factorio style facilities, easier train loading and unloading, it'd be pretty easy to offer public upgrade pads or just generally variants for free or very cheap, I think. All the transport and management work required for every minor step of the process is the bottleneck.
The way it works right now... it's a nice challenge for me personally, there's a wonderful emotional payout to see people being so happy about the project, but as said: It's a ton of effort, outside and inside the game, and a lot of that effort is unnecessarily annoying on top.

Even then though, most of the time theres none of the shells you need, so you need to go on a wild goose chase to find just a few or spend an hour or more making some. And THEN, you need to drive the slow ash tank all the way to the front, which could take up to an hour, IF you don't end up hitting partisan mines or getting ambushed. Then once you get there, you have to coordinate with random infantry players who might end up immediately abandoning you to get easily destroyed by enemy infantry. And even if none of this happens, you will very quickly run out of shells, gas, or filters, and have to spend likely an hour or so getting more.
So, even finding a prebuilt tank and using it requires hours of work to have "fun" and achieve practically nothing on the front. Its just ridiculous at this point.

As for powering the upgrade station, I think there should be large power poles so players are encouraged to make region wide power plants so all facilities are powered when needed provided that some central power station gets fueled, preferably by an oil field or some coal miners.

Tbh, I personally think that certain aspects should be more accessible to casual players *cough cough* navel and battleships- *cough* like I get the reasoning, but.. I was drawn into the game because I thought actually acting as a crew member of a ship rather than being the full ship, and it bummed me that I can't enjoy it because I don't know 20 people who will play religiously or am willing to commit to the game as a secondary job. Honestly they should add special modes for people who want to play it casually, so have the ongoing wars still, but have smaller modes alongside it! And another improvement should be adding an actual tutorial, at least somethingto learn what anything means and how to do anything- (Also possibly y'know, make the game work on steam deck because I am sick of my buttons working only half the time-) There is so much potential..

If the issue is that you can't tell the difference between a private facility and a public one, then the devs should add some marker to easily tell.

It's wierd seeing you have such issues getting a hold of tanks like this on the collie side. Luckily wardens have FMAT where they just straight up ask for rmats and they'll give you the vic you want no bullshit. Though i do agree with you that this is a dev made problem which has lead to the players themselves have to deal with the issue about access to vehcile variants at least on wardens side.

Not sure why you didn't mention that you can now tell from the map if a pad is public or not. I do agree that the bigger problem right now is that there is no way to exchange and/or advertize what's expected to be used and what is not. That said NEP always has some pads and I'm sure if you are fighting were we normally are we'll let you use ours.

@@CreepyBanana the only way I have seen these arvertized is discord servers and some people. Do signs but it is definitely something devs needs to help with.
Like for example this war a lot of clans are doing rmats for tanks programs but you have to know who to talk to to even learn of their existence..maybe that's a good video idea for you

Sounds about right. I dropped Foxhole when I realized it was 99% clans doing any of the major things, due to the necessity of a ton of resources and work to get actual equipment that wasn't dogshit.
You can do fun infantry stuff, I guess, but even that's a little stagnant.

It all means, that war is a large scale logistic operation, requiring thousands of people working together. Which leads to the point that Foxhole is quite good simulation. Same as DayZ shows how people are suc*ers - Foxhole shows that people got to gather in most possible big groups and be commanded to achieve big things. Well of course it's just a game so :D Indeed it's hard to play on your own... Even this solo-manufacture is a mess. I'd really appreciate if each piece of EQ could have a nickname or clan-tag of people who worked on delivering it on front.

The whole problem with this game is it is these damn clans that are literally ruining the game for everyone else because all they are interested in is making a name for themselves.
They are hoarding supplies just for themselves to use and lock in and out from the casual player and they only want us casual players to be used as meat puppets while they advance through the game to win it.
This is the main reason why after three days of playing I uninstall the game and made the decision never to come back to it ever again until these clans either adjust her attitude or leave the game permanently.

I can don't mind lengthier prosses as an ark player this nothing me, for a casual player it easy to get a tank, but it takes skill and team work to survive for 6+ hours on the front in one tank and as casual player if you want to get into other tanks its mostly not worth it except for few instances Like LTD, Thornfall and the Highwayman. Base tanks kick just as much booty as the variants if used right.

    • @CreepyBanana
      @CreepyBanana  Год назад

Well some variants just play differently than their base form. Like the tankette base is an open top MG. You won't be able to fight a HAC with it. So sometimes certain vics are just useless to bring to a front. In the vid we tried getting the 30mil tankette because we had just come from a front with a lot of enemy armor, so we thought we have the rmats stockpiled. Let's use them ... ended up taking over an hour for us to get back when previously it would have taken a lot us less because we had the rmats ready. Idk it's just not possible with the amount of time I have to play the game. All the devs have done is made the process longer.
