My husband of 52 years died last year, and I’ve been doing this to each room since. I’m not sure if I’ll stay in this home where we raised our kids, or if I’ll move to a smaller place but I don’t want to leave all the decision making for later. I don’t cook the same way so I don’t need all the same stuff, half as many bath towels, etc. It’s a process. I’m enjoying your hints.
Oh, Kerry, I am so sorry for your loss. What an emotional transition after 52 years. 😢 💔 We have only been married 37 years but we are getting to the age where my mind wonders to “what if?” and “what would I do?” I am very honored that you were finding my videos helpful. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting.
Sincere condolences. And 52 years together - such a blessing. Good for you to take on this big job now. I’m inspired! You are a practical and smart woman.
This year I’ve decided, if I love it, I’m gonna use it and create memories instead of tucking it away. So glad you mentioned this, means I’m on the right page! Yay!!!
Here’s an idea for hand-written family recipes. I mounted one of my grandmothers’s handwritten recipes, along with one of her well-worn wooden spoons, in a shadow box. I have it in my kitchen and think of her when I see it. We can’t save everything, but displaying a few special items in this way is a nice option.
Mrs here and you are right about having someone with you that is not emotionally attached to help declutter. I've heard that some people shouldn't hold the item but have the helper hold it up for a decision.
Hi Mrs. B! Great comment! I typically say “touch everything“ because I want everything removed from the space. Often, people will open a drawer and just look and ask themselves if anything should go and they aren’t able to properly evaluate. I have definitely had clients who can’t touch items. As soon as they do, they have to talk about it and tell the story behind it and ultimately they “have to keep it” 😳 Thanks for watching! 😁
I am so glad this was helpful!! The 12 questions are a lot, but I don’t use them all at once - usually there is one perfect for your particular decluttering issue! 😂

Thanks for watching, Karen! 😊
I have to say my cookbooks are one my treasures. At one time I had over 200. Now I only have 25…I can’t give them up🤪
We get rid of clutter to make room for the treasures! I love that cookbooks are one of yours!
Thanks so much for sharing 😊
Love this! A great way to reframe your mindset when thinking about your stuff! Now I need to go over to the 12 questions you ask your clients!!😍

Jen is a sweetheart ❤️
Isn’t she?
She has a heart of gold!! 💛
I think the tool out of the drawer is to make butter curls.😊
