This is my first time watching a video of yours. All such good ideas. My holiday seemed nice and calm this year. Main reason was my extended family decided to draw names, so we were only buying one gift and receiving one gift. Was so nice on the budget and so nice having only one new item to decide what to do with. Also I cut way back on the baking and candy making I usually do. None of us need the amount of sugar we have consumed in the past. I have not made resolutions for years I realized I wasn’t keeping them. Instead I hibernate and cozy into the season. I spend time reading, knitting, sleeping a bit more, resting and cooking/baking warming foods.

Hmmm… that’s a tough one. What about a conversation about each tradition and how it makes him feel? Sometimes we want that good feeling to always be there and we don’t want to acknowledge the pain of change and loss. Is there anything else that would fit that need of connection and positive memories? Maybe narrowing down to his absolute favorites? Would he be willing to help with some of the extra work? I think it’s worth a conversation. Listening and understanding how he feels is so important. You are an amazing wife! (That is why you are trying to figure this out!!) ❤

I absolutely hate getting a partical set of anything. Yes you can buy things in singles 2,4 6 ect. So, 3 cups, 5 cups...no. All that tells me, is along the way someone broke one, and I was gifted the leftovers.

I've never done a no spend month..I think this is a great idea! I did do a version of this during the summertime when I was a teacher. Not working in the summer meant a lower income with 2 children. I made a personal goal to only shop in my town for necessary items( 1 grocery store and one cvs) , no online shopping, and access free events through the library etc. It was definitely a challenge but it made me think of what I really needed versus wanted.I think February is a good month to try not spending. Thanks for the idea!

This is my first no spend month. I do have a birthday so I will spend for that, but I'm trying very hard to use what I already have. It's a challenge as I have trouble making meals from a meal plan because I often don't feel like eating what I've planned . Last February I was part of your no spend challenge. It really helped me to reset my finances. But, I did a bit of overspending for Christmas, so I decided on a no spend January and started on the 1st. The first few days take some self-control, but then it gets easier. I tell myself I can only purchase essentials, also I want to be a good steward of the money God has given me. I encourage everyone to try this for one month, it will change how you think about your finances.

We pretty much did this 5 years ago when Covid started and we had to stay home. We could see a big difference. We seldom buy online.

I've done plenty of no-spend months because shopping is not a hobby or something I enjoy. It's wonderful to have savings goals... I'm happy to report that we'll be mortgage free by July!

Mrs B here, I have been decluttering a little every week but if I don't thrift, I don't add to the stuff. So this month no eBay and no thrifting. Baby steps right?

Yes, A planner video.. I’m doing a 3 day water fast starting Monday.. committing it to the Lord. I’ve done the 40 day Sugar Fast… it’s a wonderful fast to do. Thank you. A very thoughtful podcast.. gave me much food for thought and prayer! God bless you!

I'm very happy that my partner and I share a common goal to clean our entire home room by room. He does the big picture type of jobs and I do the fine details. I also want to make sure we declutter everything we don't need so I imagine each room will take at least a week.

Janell here, there's a Christmas eve dinner tradition that hubby's mom started 60 some years ago. Hubby wants to still keep it going at our house which I have for the last 6 years, but I have tried to cut back which upsets him. The same for Christmas morning breakfast which thankfully is at our daughter's home. I don't bake all the cookies she did and he's better but still laments the past changes. How to make things simpler and not have a sad husband?

Great ideas Teresa! I take my old calendar and go over anything important I need to transfer to my new calendar. Then I keep my old calendar for one year and pitch it at the new year so I always have the current year calendar and the previous year calendar to refer to… works great for me! I have had a simple Holiday notebook for years that includes Christmas and I simply record who I bought for and what I bought as Christmas gifts and what food we made for all the holidays and who was invited and who came. I evaluate after the holiday and decide if we had too much food, what we enjoyed, what wasn’t a hit. Then I make notes for the next year. It makes holiday planning streamlined and simple! Thanks for this great video! I have gained a lot of good habits in recent years, and I’m proud of myself for it. I’ve even kept ONE New Year’s Resolution for 25 years, and that is that I make my bed every day! But that’s literally probably the only resolution I’ve ever kept and I only made that resolution because I was at a party and you had to write one down and then they read them out loud and everyone had to try to guess whose resolution was who’s! One area that I need to work on is not watching so much RUclips. I watch a lot of crafting videos, decluttering, videos, and thrift store shopping videos. My Internet went out a couple of weeks ago and they weren’t going to be able to come fix it for four days and I was pretty upset… But then realized I could use cell service to get coverage. So that was kind of an awakening.

Great haul! My best find was a 100% cashmere long black coat that I paid $10 for - looked it up and it's vintage and retails for over $1000! My only problem is sometimes I get carried away with all the good deals, so I definitely need to come up with a plan, a limit or a list! Happy New Year!

I had A Prayer for a Child for my children. Elizabeth Orton Jones illustrated and won the Caldecott Award that year. I would buy bags of books for my 32 year old twins when little at St. Vincents. They charged 10 cents for soft covers and 25 for hard. Joan
